The more expensive ones do have an extra set of features but at this price you can't really go wrong
Only thing I would suggest is an extra battery.
Ideally you will need a recommended screen aswell for fpv and additional controls. See the dji site for recommended tablets. But include ipad air and up, ipad mini 2 and up, nexus 7 v2, nvidia sheild, samsung gs4 and up, iphone 5s and up etc.. plenty of info on google on what works best.
I picked up one of these from the previous deal back in January DJI Standard. Lets just say the latest firmware and DJI Go app updates have severely hindered the flying distance with the drone. Definitely worth spending the extra dough on the advanced or professional.
Yeah but $689 and $859 is a bit of a difference. And your decision is based on the firmware which is a problem that can easily be resolved. Do not update the firmware or install the lower firmware.
Firmware updates are handled differently compared to the professional and advanced. You cannot downgrade firmware through conventional means. These issues have been ongoing for the past few updates without DJI acknowledging the issue. Check the official forums for yourself. Just a word of warning.
I managed to upgrade my Phantom 3 4K with no problems, I wonder if it's only a problem with the standard.
Have you noticed any range issues?
The problem was that I never got to test it before upgrading, so I can't tell the difference. Hitting 300m distance wise with no problems so far, should I be getting less if there was a problem?
@YellowKnight: I was originally getting close to the 500m limit. After each update since my range has dropped to a crippling 100m.
@zeto87: Oh. Well I'm hitting 100m with no problems, I can't seem to find anywhere to fly it that will let me see the maximum distance. But I figured with a firmware update 300m should show it's still flying fine.
Great Deal. Given the $200+ cost of the extra batteries, it's almost worth buying two of these, selling off the second controller and keeping the second phantom spare for parts if (or when) you have a fatal crash.
