First time free, for one week only. I bought this for about $15 a few months back, great synth app. Price fluctuates a lot but has never been under US$4.99

SampleTank gives you 16 instrument categories for an expandable sound set of over 600 instruments that cover virtually every acoustic, electric and electronic sound you may need. Plus, each category includes instrument riffs and grooves, so you can immediately use the over 1,000 included patterns.

    Just over 1 gig download

  • Excellent! Does it work with an external midi keyboard?

    • Sure does! You'll need a USB -> lighting adapter (aka Camera Connection Kit), unless your keyboard is fancy and has bluetooth.

      • Sweet as. I've got an iRig Pro so I'm sorted.

Shady company. I bought Amplitube (on PC) a few years ago and was surprised and disappointing that I had a one-time-only strict time limit to download and activate the license otherwise you have to pay a fee to re-authorise the download (this includes having to reinstall later if you lose the download). I went to the forums and merely stated my surprise and disappointment in this day and age of digital content when re-download fees or at least time limits should be a thing of the past. I was rational and wasn't aggressive about it. Soon IK started deleting comments in the thread, and shortly after deleted the entire thread and banned me. No explanation. I've never bought from them again.

    • I shouldn't knock a free app though, but I get the feeling that alot of IK's "full version" apps are a bit like trojan horses for IAP's.

      • I hear what you are saying but no doubt they want to make more out of their customer base by selling add-ons, it makes good business sense to do so with apps that are basically quite low cost to begin with (the same applies to apps like Animoog etc). They do have another version of SampleTank that is always free (with a more limited range of instruments/features.)

Edit: Your other post regarding the PC app does sound very poor form though, thankfully they cant get away with that sort of thing on the Apple ecosystem.

This is the only individual app I've found that lets you layer sounds with a single MIDI controller. You can do the same thing across apps with MIDIFlow + various MIDI apps + Audiobus + MiMiX but phew that's a lot of switching.

Stay away from PC software. They have the worst copy protection licence software I have ever encountered. Really antiquated stuff. Would never pay this company money for any of their products until they have moved on.

    • That s true!
