1TB Xbox One Elite with Halo 5 & The Division (Download Token) $478 @ EB Games

90

Definitely not as good as the $398 deal they had yesterday but still cheaper than usual and also includes The Division (wouldn't value that at $80 though).

I am very confident that MS will stop selling the old console and that the prices will drop within months even lower than a few days ago.

Why would the prices drop lower than the discounts of the last few days? The new Xbox is a minor upgrade but priced a lot higher so why would they need to discount anymore to shift stock?

Because they will want to force people to buy the higher end model and the easiest way to this is to sell out the old model.

What higher end model? The One S is a minor revision with the same specs but some minor additional CPU and GPU power available for HDR usage on compatible TVs and compatible games. Aside from that it's a smaller form factor and a 4k Blu-ray player.

You sound like you're confused with the new model coming next year.

        • @Maverick-au:

I am not confused at all but i know how marketing works. They will know how to sell the minor updates in hardware and size as a big advantage to the crowd. Just think about an iPhone xS

        • @Maverick-au:
You may say minor but those reasons are exactly why people will choose the new over the old.
Sony does the same when they release the slim models.

However you explain it, the changes are major for buyers. More and more HDR uhd tv are out and cheap, HDR blurays are out, the model looks a million times better too.

If you were buying a new one and required a 4k player sure but otherwise price is what matters. I purchased the elite for $398 with controller, the updated version will cost double this.

The changes are not major. Who cares about HDR when there are no titles yet and unless you need 4K Blu-ray playback which I doubt many people care about the new model makes no sense for many people. To suggest that HDR is a major change is absurd.

If you're going to upgrade wait for the new model next year, not a minor refresh towards the end of its life.

  • Why the rush for this console late in it's cycle. Wait for Xbox 1.5 or whatever. It is MUCH improved.

How is it MUCH improved. I purchased this yesterday to play Forza 6 on, how exactly is the new Xbox going to improve my experience?

      • Should manage 1080p 60fps with heaps less laggy play
        Much improved gfx
Also rumoured to be more powerful than ps4 Neo 4K

        • Wait, you're talking about the Scorpio which is not coming soon and is actually touted more as an XBone successor than an upgrade much as the 360 was to the original. The Xbone Slim is the one coming soon which is not a big upgrade.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:
My mistake I thought it was coming soon since ps4.5k neo is out oct

        • @thelastnoob: That is yet to be confirmed as well, only a rumor that is coming in October unless I've missed something recently. Word is that Sony got wind of Scorpio and may have taken Neo back to the drawing board.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:
I am assuming Neo is out around the time of PSVR since I read that the ps4 is so weak the frame rate loss is causing motion sickness and poor vr will turn people away in the droves

        • @thelastnoob: no idea where you get this info from. I haven't preordered VR but I've only heard great things from the gaming press about it.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:
Can't find the main story about it but I found

          https://www.engadget.com/2016/06/15/resident-evil-7-vr-sickn…

          http://www.cnet.com/au/news/playstation-vr-batman-final-fant…

Also there was a story from a ps4 dev or technician saying the ps4 cannot handle the high frame rates required for vr. Everyone should know the ps4 can and does struggle to maintain 60fps in a lot of titles now it needs 90+

        • @thelastnoob:

Most of the comparisons for xb1 and ps4 seem to reveal the Sony does a better job of maintaining or being closer to 60fps than Xbox for standard games. Neither are perfect though so not surprising that they need more under the hood for VR.

    • It could end up costing a lot more than this, and it means waiting over a year to get the machine. If you want to play current games, while they'll work in the Scorpio, they likely won't look any better either until devs start developing with that console in mind.

It also seems certain that Scorpio games initially will work on the One as well, so this console won't be redundant for some time.

  • I was never really intending to purchase an XBOne - but for effectively $250 for the 1TB with Tomb Raider I couldn't resist.

Jumping in now made sense while I wait for the next iteration of the PS4 to come out and then I'll retire my two PS3's (maybe) and reacquaint myself with Nathan Drake.

The XBox will be a good media system.
