Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain for PS4 for $24.95 @ Australian PS Store

960

I was reading in the comments on the big in japan sale deal that this was on sale on the PSN for $24.95 but didn't appear in the deal itself, a quick look at past deals and i couldn't find a better price for this on PS4 posted so far and was cheap enough to tempt me into buying it even though this is my first foray into the series (the multiple 10/10 reviews don't hurt either)

  • I like this price! Even if it's digital

  • -4

Good price! Hope it is for XB too.

    • +1

It is a similar price on the South African Xbox store 😜.

This was my favourite game of last year and, in my opinion, has the best open world gameplay of any game to date. The amount of ways you can approach any situation with a plethora of weapons/toys at your disposal really becomes limited only by your imagination. Don't stress if you haven't played the previous titles, the story is and always has been bonkers, it's fine to dive in here. A steal for $24.95!

  • +1

This game is absolutely amazing. So good, so immersive. Picked it up for $18 off that Co-Op bargain.

  • +2

Great game, wish I had more time to play…

  • +3

Nice one. Too many unplayed games, but the price is right ;)

    • I know right, i am halfway through Uncharted 4 and Doom and bought it anyway, also would have picked up Assassin's Creed Syndicate if the Target deal had not ended………I may have a problem haha.

      • +3

As I said to a mate who rolls his eyes when I get a new game:

"Look, all those unplayed games aren't going to not play themselves!"

  • I have on disk from the collectors edition but moving around this year lots so would love digital edition instead…
any idea what the trade in on the disk would be to offset getting this?>

  • Nice deal, thinking of getting it. Has it been cheaper before ?

    • +1

It may have. I read a comment about a co-op deal but my check of MGS5 specific deals on OzB showed this as the cheapest for current gen. (Previous gen has gone lower)

    • +1

Only if you managed to get it from co-op when they had their price errors. It was $20 less cashrewards for total of about $18 on Xbone and PS4. This is still cheap.

  • +4

This is the single best open world, stealth video game I've ever played. I was really starting to lose hope in games in general and ive only put 60hrs into this game, but it so ridiculously good it is an absolute must buy for that price. I paid $63 for the Day One edition used and it was in immaculate condition and I didn't for a single second feel like I was ripped off. Its also my first and only real Metal Gear game and I'm absolutely in love with it. My personal GOTY for 2015 and the highest rated game of last year (just above the Witcher 3).

    A Hideo Kojima bargain
    Produced by Konami

  • +1

I've not enjoyed a game this much for years and I'm a heavy gamer. This sets a very high standard for game experience that far surpasses most games released in last few years.

It has a very 80s feel to it and a ton of references.

  • "Boss get down! That's an OzBargain deal that'll be featured in tomorrow's newsletter. Quickly hit the +1 button!"

    • +1

Boss get down! That's an enemy Bargain. One burst from it's front page can tear a man's wallet in half.

  • +1

Bought thanks to all the comments praising the game here!
    Keen!

  • On a related point "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes" is $7.55 is this any good ?

    • +1

Yes but only about three hours to finish. Good for the price.

  • +1

As a long time massive fan of the series I hated this micro transaction pushing boring helicoptor ride sim. I've loved every other game in the series including the PSP exclusives, this and GZ sucked ass.

    • +1

None of the Micro-transactions are required though. But yes. It is tempting to buy MB Coins when you don't really need to… so long as you sign in everyday to check on your Rewards you can accumulate enough MB coins to build two or three FOB's.

I have three fully upgraded FOB's and I only ever bought $2 dollars worth of MB coins (200)

      • It's nice that the game appeals to the masses but they lost me with this one. That and it was obviously an unfinished game that Konami forced Kojima to release as he was over budget and time.

        • +2

Heh. I understand your sentiments. A Metal Gear Pachinko game was a giant kick to the balls to the fandom that worshipped the MGS series.

    • Wow, if you don't like this game you may be tired of games altogether! I've been playing PC games since the 80s and this is, in my opinion, one of the best games of all time.

      • Nope, playing a lot of other stuff. This game just lost its identity and appeal to me.

  • Fanastic Game, would strongly recommend.

  • +1

Finally some good prices on the AU store.
    Thank you.

    • +1

Yea good deals in Australian PSN are rare

    • +1

Perhaps if you checked YouTube from a PC rather than 540p on an old phone?

      • -2

Sure thing. The improvements is not worth $350. I love seeing negs just cause of all the haters for PS3. At least I don't pay for multiplayer. Sure the system will go obsolete but no matter what I won't get a PS4

        • +1

I'd say the negs are from your haters not the PS3s. You seem arrogant.

        • -1

I'm merely suggesting for those who has PS3 can buy the game without buying a PS4. How is that arrogant? We are all here to get bargains.

        • @neonlight: Because it is a PS4 deal, Most people looking at PS4 deals will presumably either own a PS4 or be interested in owning one so pointing out the PS3 version is unnecessary, if you think the deal on the PS3 version is worthwhile by all means post it, your information on a PS4 not being necessary might even be useful to someone looking at PS3 deals

        • +2

@neonlight: You know most of us own both PS3 and 4 right? Nobody buys a PS4 for one multiplatform game lol

  • How big is this DL and what is the installed size?

  • Dumb question, those digital games once I bought it I can redownload as many times I want right? I'm planning to wipe my HD changing it Ssd that's why. Thanks

    • yes you can

    • As long as u keep the PlayStation account u can download forever

    • +1

I keep a backup of my Digital only games on an old HDD incase I need the space later. Saves me having to DL the whole thing later as this game is over 30GB of downloading ;)

      • I could still copy the digital copies to my new SSD right? Does it work like that? Thanks

        • +1

The PS4 has a "All or Nothing" backup feature. So when you do a backup it will copy everything currently on your hdd. This can then be dumped back onto your SSD once installed providing the SSD is big enough to accept the backup image.

        • @Todes Angst: I see now. Thanks!

  • I've got so many game backlog with all the amazing deals recently, not enough time to play. But I'm still gonna buy this and add it to the queue lol

  • Purchased :)
FYI There is an initial DL of 5GB which is the semi-playable "Prologue" training part. Once this is completed the "game data" is sucked down from the interwebs and comes in at 25GB additional. The online stuff is also an extra DL but I don't have PS+ so didn't need to DL it.

Have to say that the graphics in this game are the best I have seen yet on the PS4 (n.b. I can't play UC4 due to the apocalyptic CE_34878-0 error of death so haven't seen the graphics in that).

    • UC4 & The Order are many levels above the graphics MGSV offers. I suggest u try any of those 2 to witness true ps4 power

  • +3

I know it's last gen, but Target has copies of this on disc for PS3 for 20 and have for a while. Not sure comparatively how the prices stack up between gens, but yeah.

    • -4

My thoughts exactly not sure why people like to neg. Ozbargainer should aim for most effective way to play the game with OK graphics. No need to buy PS4 just for this game

      • No need to buy a PS3 when PS2s are so cheap!

        • -3

However this title is not available on PS2 nor it has HD graphics. There a few titles PS3 still does very well for its aging hardware eg. Dark Souls, GTA V and MGS

      • +1

You are not getting Negged because you think the PS3 version is good enough, you are getting Negged because of what seems to be a vendetta against the PS4. If you had just pointed out that the PS3 version was cheaper and in your opinion offered comparable quality then your posts probably would have gotten up-voted and anyone not sure about buying a PS4 just for this game would have their answer. Instead you decided to trash the PS4 in a thread full of what i will assume is mostly PS4 owners and then seemed surprised when they disagreed with you.

      • +1

Nobody in this thread said to buy a PS4 just for this game. That said, with the cheap PS4s which have been in here recently and the excellent exclusives, it's the no. 1 selling current gen console for a reason. Heck, I'd buy a PS4 if i didn't have one just for Uncharted 4.

    • It has been cheaper but not by much, not a bad deal on a physical copy.

  • Just wanted to chime in that this game is extremely good, massive open environments, multiple approaches, welcomes both stealth, action (or indeed mixed) styles of game play. Lots of customisation, addictive collecting of items/peoples, massive amounts of choice and maintains a strong feeling of being a MGS game without MGS4's stupid level of cut scenes.

I've clocked up well over 120 hours and not finished my first play through, unfortunately too busy to finish the game :(
