As the previous deal was only a short period of time promotion and now expired a while ago, it seems AMEX is providing the same benefits but no period of expiry.

Currently if joining without referrals it is only bonus upto 7,500 points. However if joining by referral it is a bonus of upto 15,000 points.

Not only are you getting bonus points but you can also help get bonus points to the referrer as they get 30,000 bonus points (upto 200,000) per person. This extra bonus points for new applications (over 12 months) applied before 15 August 2016.

Earn rate is $1 = 1 Qantas point with no annual fee.

  • I cannot remember when did I cancelled my bank issued Amex. Maybe within 12 months. But this is deal not bank issued card. How do I know if I can still get the points?

    • Seems to be a discrepancy between what is the official position and what is enforced, according to some in other threads. Also, see my comment below.

  • Do you qualify for the bonus on the Qantas Discovery if you already have a Amex Velocity Platinum? Annual fee is coming up ($349 from memory) so time to cancel it.

Some people have said that AMEX does not strictly enforce the "no referral bonus to existing cardholder" rule, in the other threads.

I have a similar experience with application bonus, which like referral bonus, supposedly does not apply to existing cardholder. I was not expecting any when I applied for the Amex Essential, as I also hold this Qantas Discovery card. I simply wanted the higher "cash" reward rate with the new card. So, I was pleasantly surprised when AMEX still gave me the bonus :-)

Hi thanks for this OP. I just applied and got accepted. Used your referral! First AMEX card.

Edit: Could not see on the website but does anyone know how many days interest free on purchases with this card - is it 55 days?

    • +1

I am able to find from infochoice, which says it is 44 day interest free. But not being the AMEX website itself, hope it is still up-to-date. Fortunately, AMEX provides statement due notification well in advance.

(Not able to find this days-free and interest rate info, at the AMEX website itself!)

Welcome to the club! You will have so much fun, especially with the cashback offers :-)

Edit: The newest cash-back offers are here, if you can use them.

  • Can I just clarify, I assume this card is going to be eligible for all the AMEX Statement Credit deals even though it's a Qantas themed card?

    • +1

It will be eligible, but not necessarily ALL offers - see my comment here to another OZB member who asked this question. Hope this helps.

      • Super, thanks mate

  • It seems like they have increased the referral bonus to 30,000 (for the referrer, not for the one applies) for the month of July. It appears they have updated the referral link for this promotion. It is much shorter now. Here is the T&C page link.

May be worth updating the post.
