  • Nice, wish I needed more Switches/Dimmers right now!

    • I need/want them, but have run out of discretionary funding for the moment…. ;-)

      • Do it.

        • Sigh. Have bought maybe $1k worth of Zwave stuff recently (slowly migrating from a pretty decent but now old X10 setup) plus, courtesy of ozbargain, another $1.3k on a 58 inch UHD tv and an Xbox One. Plus have family holiday o/s soon. Automating the pantry light will probably have to wait for a few more months….

          @PlasticSpaceman:

Haha I feel the pain, about $1k myself plus another 800 on momentary switches!

        • @XeKToReX:

After discovering the wonder that is https://www.mysensors.org/controller/vera, I have a stack of parts on order from aliexpress - plan to setup multiple door, temperature, and other sensors. Maybe experiment with cheap motion sensors. I already have momentary switches but need to replace the X10 dimmer modules themselves…. have a lockwood deadbolt on the front door which is great, but also would like to put something on the garage and laundry doors…. sigh….

  • I've heard only good things about their customer service, can anyone comment on their prices?

    • +1

Prices are pretty competitive in the smart home market, Consider this about 20% off if you need it.

I'll back their customer service, had excellent support from them.

    • +1

Customer service is great. I've had 4 orders with them so far and all were shipped very fast (talking hours not days here)

Recent order had some some relays and a dimmer - got a personal email apologising that the dimmer would be delayed as their next shipment was 4 days away. Gave me the option of getting a refund or waiting (which I did). They didn't hold up the relays though - these were sent immediately.

My first order was pretty small as they were unknown to me but as that worked fine I've put through some reasonably big orders since (decking out a house being constructed)

      Would recommend them.

  • Hi XeKToReX, we too were very excited when we started testing the MySensors vera integration. We did some testing with pressure sensors (barometric) and relay boards for irrigation and a few other things. We hope your experience with it is better but unfortunately found it to be very unreliable when we experimented with it about a year ago with constant communication dropouts between the Arduino controller and the sensors, it depended a lot on the 'radio's' used. We did consider stocking some of this stuff at one stage so we could control the quality of the radio's and so on so please let us know how you go.

    • Hi - I think this comment was directed to me as I was the one who mentioned the MySensors kit. I'm happy to let you know how I go. Similar to zwave and zigbee, it uses a mesh rf network to communicate, so if there are comms issues you should be able to address that by ensuring that there is a unit not too far away from the central gateway…. although for my testing I don't plan to use one, if I do use them long term then I'd probably pay a little extra and get RF modules with a decent external antenna (eg http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1sets-Special-promotions-1100…). I'll also probably use a WeMos ESP8266 board as the gateway (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/WeMos-D1-WiFi-uno-based-ESP82…) as it has more memory, a faster processor, and built in wifi. Maybe I might also put an antenna on the gateway…..

Would I use this for irrigation? Technically yes but would want to make sure that it has sufficient fail safes built in to prevent valves from being left open etc. I'd probably lean more towards something like OpenSprinkler that's dedicated (http://rayshobby.net/opensprinkler/) to control things and link that in to my Vera system (yep, there's a plugin) just to monitor.

      Cheers
