These were at Reservoir 3073 as well. Same deal.

  • High power use. Low up-front cost.
Wesfarmers (owners of Coles) must have some stakes in the power industry. And of course they do.

    • Let me guess 2000w ?

    • High power use. Low up-front cost.

Which is better than High power use and High up-front cost.

These heaters use EXACTLY the same amount of power to heat a room as any other electric heater.

So what's the point of your post?

      • I thought the point was obvious. The only person drawing comparisons to other heaters was you.

        • I thought the point was obvious

Oh, sorry if I didn't understand. If your point was so obvious, then you probably should have made it more plainly.

I checked the webpage you linked which shows that Wesfarmers supplies LPG (Kleenheat) and Natural Gas (Quadrant Energy) to residential consumers. Quadrant is involved in retail supply of electricity to Businesses only (not domestic) to a small area of Australia, so overall the Wesfarmers comment is pretty much irrelevant to the kind of power and usage that these heaters use.

Therefore, the only remaining point seemed to be "High power use. Low up-front cost", to which I have replied above. I compared to other heaters, simply because that is what's obvious to compare this deal with :-)

        • You missed this (and more) on that page:

Wesfarmers has a 40 per cent interest in the Bengalla open-cut coal mining joint venture, situated at Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. Coal and Allied manages the operation, which is capable of producing more than nine million tonnes of steaming coal for both domestic and export purposes.

          again, my point was obvious

  • I read these are rubbish

    Good deal

These are superb for a small room. I use mine in my home office. Usually a 5 minute blast keeps me warm for 30-60 minutes. I bought a spare for $8 and another spare for $5, just in case.

put all three on at once and by my maths you only need them on for 1 min 40 sec per hour!

    Nationwide.

Watch those power bills though. 2000W is good for short uses, but don't keep this on for hours!

    • Why? You can heat up a small area for the equivalent power usage of 33 x 60w light globes.

Why wife has similar, if she wasn't pregnant, bloody watch out woman.

    • Watch those power bills though. 2000W is good for short uses, but don't keep this on for hours!

Heating your home uses power. That, strangely enough, is the whole idea of it.

What point is there in buying a heater if you never switch it on? Might as well save your $5.

In a small room, with thermostat set at a reasonable level (say 20°C) this thing might only have a 25% duty cycle. That would average 500W per hour, which would cost most people about 15 cents per hour.

So, 6 hours per day for under a dollar! Run it for 3 months of the year, your power usage would be under $100 which is cheaper than buying a decent jumper LOL

      • Exactly why I walked past it and didn't put it in my trolley. ;)

This heater only has two settings - 1000W and 2000W as far as I could tell.

I mean, if you want to stay warm and use a bit of power, sure - go for it. I don't feel cold too much so I wouldn't bother. I have a reverse cycle if I REALLY get cold.

It was a warning, not a "don't you dare buy this product" post. Haha.

AND a Thermostat. Clearly visible in the photo (lefthand knob).

You paid a LOT more for your reverse cycle A/C than this thing!

For spot heating of a bedroom, etc this is far cheaper (including power usage). You won't get a Split System Reverse Cycle installed for under $1500 or $2000, and they still use power to heat (just not as much). And remember that R/C is far less efficient in cold climates when there is little or no heat in the ambient air to extract to warm your room!

You cannot use gas in a bedroom, so it's resistive electric or R/C A/C or ducted. Yeah, these things cost $$ to run, but they warm your room at a far lower price than people give them credit for.

    • or you can simply use 'low'

  • Brisbane stores seem to stock "Celsius" brand heaters rather than these - identical product by the look of it, for $25 :-(

      better than fahrenheit
