Oh man… wife forced me to gift her an appletv 64gb for her bday..

Almost same price as this…. 😭

    • +1

My wife knows better than to ask me to buy fruit(y technology) - you haven't trained her properly! ;)

    • Quick, distract her… Then return this and place an order for the ps4.

You can act all confused when she asks later.

      • +1

Just put an Apple sticker on it

  • +1

Is this the cheapest price so far?

      • That deal is over 6 months old.

        • +2

That deal is over 6 months old.

And? The question was "so far", ie. cheapest its ever been.

        • @PainToad:

I'm pretty sure they were asking if it were the cheapest of the more recent deals.

        • @tranqme:

You base that on what exactly?

        • @PainToad:

Common sense, a deal from 6 months ago really can't be compared to current pricing.

        • +2

          @tranqme:

can't be compared to current pricing.

Again, he wasn't asking for a comparison with current pricing. "so far" implies from the beginning, not recently/current.

        • @PainToad:

Again, I think you took what they said a bit too literally.

  • +2

Great price but I must remind everyone there is a Slim model coming, and a more powerful 4K res version coming. So this model is practically obsolete and may get cleared out when the new consoles come.

    • if only we know when it actually will come out!!

      I'm waiting for 4K version :D

but these PS4 sales are always tempting me :(

    • +6

To be fair, the PS4K will probably be right back up to the $549 RRP, if not even higher, so this is still a great deal for a vanilla PS4.

    • +8

Then I would need a 4K tv then wait for half decent games to be released in 4K version which will probably also have a premium over 1080 titles.

      • +3

I think the 4K selling point of the new consoles is video (4K streaming, 4K blu ray etc). I doubt games will be in 4K.

You could spend $500 on a GPU for your PC and probably would struggle with 4K. I think games will remain in 1080p, although there will be a boost in graphics though.

        • Yeah I doubt you'd see much in the way of 4K gaming on any Slim model…current consoles struggle enough with 1080p. The Neo may be a different matter, but the Slim presumably has similar internals to the current model.

        • +1

          @Smigit:

Yes. I was referring to the Neo. Is there a slim PS4 confirmed? All I heard was Sony acknowledged Neo's existence.

On the other hand, Xbox have already confirmed XBox One S (UHD blu-ray, rest same internals) as well as confirmed Scorpio (improved hardware).

        • +2

@edshays: I did a google after reading about it here and a number of sites have rumored we'll see one around the time the Neo is confirmed apparently, but I couldn't see any other details. If they do ship one then I imagine they'd play a similar card to MS in that they'd drop in an UHD BluRay drive and 4K video output given they have more investment in BluRay than MS does due to Sony Pictures and their TV lineup. Putting UHD players in an affordable console might be a way for them to up sell movies and TV's.

Nothing confirmed, but it makes sense. Both the Neo and Scorpio sound like they are aiming to maintain forwards and backwards compatibility with the current models, so it may make sense for Sony to iterate on the current model at some point.

    • +11

no its not going to be obsolete, and not everyone has a 4k monitor/tv

      • I said Slim model and 4K model.
It's the same as the Xbox One S and Xbox Scorpio.
        I heard about it here

    • +4

Every time a PS4 deal comes up there is always "that guy" that goes on with the "it's obsolete" comments.

At the moment, the Neo is vapourware. There is no release date, no real specs and no idea on what it will and won't do. Will it be its own console, will it be backwards compatible, will it be updateable, will it do 100fps @ 4K? I would say with the release of the One S and confirmed news of Xbox Scorpio next year, Sony may have just gone back to the drawing board to blow MS out of the water with "Neo" and set it back further…

Truth is that not everyone has a 4K tv or wants to invest in a 4K TV for the sake of a gaming console. Yes it may go lower in price, but for now, most will see that it's a pretty good deal considering what it can already do. And sure, in 6 months when Sony announce the Neo finally for 2018 and the price of a PS4 drops to that of a box of weetbix, then come back here and give us the "I told you so" speech…

      • will it do 100fps @ 4K?

Haha, no, we already know the answer to this one.

        • How many 4k TVs do 100hz?

      • -2

        Xbone is obsolete

    • I'm not sure I'd call them obsolete. The prevailing rumour and one of the most important is that for some time after launch all games will have to support both models, meaning the existing one is very relevant. The fact they would ship a Slim model at the same time as the Neo would imply that the consoles not obsolete given the changes of a Slim over whats out now is likely to be fairly small. In some cases slim models turn out to be worse than the existing model such as the very late PS3 revisions and are in many ways a means to cut production costs, not to release better hardware.

    • Thanks for the reminder. I do not mind waiting. I'm not really fond of the current PS4 anyway with its titles

  • +7

$298 and I will pull the trigger!!!!

    • +9

      That's a very specific price.

      • +4

        And 65 cents.

        • +9

          Plus a free goldfish

        • +1

          dont forget the cashrewards

        • +1

          @mty:

With $298 I was just matching the xbox pricing - I still think there is a chance the PS4 will go sub $300

    • and cash reward

  • Oh man all these deals with PS4. Not sure if I should pull the trigger and buy now or wait for further price drop when the new Ps4 comes out.

    • I'd wait for the PSV personally

      • +1

        Ps Vita is the best

    • If you've waited this long like I have, you can afford to wait till a truly great deal comes around that's too hard to resist, eg. Uncharted 4 bundle for less than $300 or something similar.

  • +2

Thank you SO much for showing me this! I had a 15% off voucher and I was waiting, waiting, waiting for a good PS4 deal. I got the console + Unchartered 4 + Doom for $379. Yay!

    • That's a decent price.
Where did you get a 15% off voucher?

      • They didn't.

      • To be honest, I have only ever shopped on eBay once to buy my Note 4, so eBay sends me vouchers all the time to make me come back and shop.

My fiance's birthday is coming up and luckily I got this voucher AND this deal when it came out when it did.

        Very grateful :)

  • They improved these things a little with the 12 chassis variant
But they also have quietened it by restricting the fan speed
    Therefore these things run HOT
K- Mart running out vertical stands with fans built in for $6
Initial reviews warn of burn risk at the rear of console
    Flame on

    • who feels the need to get touchy feely with the rear of the console?

  • I bought the XboxOne on a whim last week because of the sub-$300 pricing.

For the PS4 I'll be waiting for the new hardware. At least that's what I'm saying now (and had also said for the Xbox which I purchased accidentally)…

    • I'm probably in the same boat. I've waited this long so I'm happy to see what the Neo looks like and I suspect we'll know in the next few months. I don't have a 4K TV, but that's not to say the extra oomph can't be used for better graphics or performance at HD resolutions.

Already have an Xbox One to tide me over for now anyway.

      • This is also the 500gb. You'd reasonably expect these or better prices on the 1TB with game closer to upgrade time - much as we saw for Xbox. Maybe not quite as competitive but an improvement on this deal.

This is a good price though based on its price history.

  • just don't see the deal in this.

We saw this price over 12 months ago when target had their ebay sales where it brought this down the same price.

Even only a few weeks ago the UC4 bundle at JB was only $399 which makes this deal seem very average.

    • +1

I disagree, there's always one person that brings up the JB $399 UC bundle as soon as a new PS4 deal is posted, my understanding is with the hype of UC4, they overstocked the limited edition console thinking it would sell like hotcakes, and now that the hype is over they realised their mistake and decided to do a clearance sale.

      • For an extra $40, you got a limited edition console, double the hard drive space, a game to get you going and 6 months Presto… So I have to agree with Spud and also compared to all the awesome Xbox deals in the last week or two, this one just still seems a little, meh, average, even at this low price.

        • Well, you can't really compare the two consoles to be honest, but each to their own.

        • @tranqme: please enlighten us with your wisdom on why we can't compare the two? Most of the games are available on both. A few exclusives on each. Both come in rectangular shaped boxes and connect to your TV. Both have pretty well balanced pros and cons. So, I'm really keen to hear why the two can't be compared…

        • @pegaxs: 'A few exclusives on each' lol Sony begs to different,

there's a mountain of difference with the ps4 exclusive and the shitty xb1 ones

        • @Freestyle: Yeah, you're right. Xbox only got Halo and Titanfall and Gears of War 1, 2, & 3, totally shitty exclusives… Yep, your argument for why the PS4 and XB1 being hard to compare is so compelling… Please tell me more, you have almost convinced me that PS4 is a better buy at $350 than what XB1 is at $299…

  • This console is really good I have one and its the best console I've had. so cheap good deal.

  • +1

I pulled the trigger on this deal. target is getting rid of stock apparently because they will no longer be selling consoles and games.
I had a 50$ birthday voucher so I found this a good deal for me.

  • Is this the CUH-12000 model?

    • Is anyone able to confirm this?

      • I got a 1202A from Target last year - I can't imagine they would have the older one after all this time.

    • Just copped one….its a 1202A

  • -2

Shame its not an xbox one

    • And that kids, is how you start a fanboi flame war…

    • Shame it's not a SNES.

    • ahha just shows how butthurt ps4 owners get , someone commented "shame its not a ps4" on an xbox one deal not long ago no one cared lol

      • I don't care - I'll have both when the One S is out. I won't be the only one.

  • Considering purchasing this using my 28degrees card in case the price drops within 6 months, anyone think it would be wiser to try and price-match at JB-Hifi/Big W in case Target stop stocking these?

  • +1

Wow nice, if u haven't gotten a ps4 get this right away. Don't keep waiting ull just keep waiting forever. So many great games out there.
