  • Hm… 5400 rpm… I wonder if the one in MSY is 7200 rpm.
The WD 1TB in MSY is $85. Speed unknown

    • MSY stock the Green WD drives, so 5400rpm.

big whoop, 7200 or 5400, you can't tell the difference lol as long as the drive works

        • actually u can if it's a boot drive, takes soooo long to boot if it's a 5400
used as a storage drive not so much difference though

        • There is a large difference in speed between 7200 and 5400 rpm drives. Use one as your boot drive and it's obvious. Use it to watch TV episodes and you'd never notice a difference. It all depends on how the drive is used.

          • @Cluster: The WD Green 1TB drives have actually reviewed rather well in comparison to, say, the Hitachi 1TB or Seagate 1TB 7200rpm drives.

Sure, WD 1TB Caviar Black drives are a good 5-30% faster depending on what you're doing, but the WD Green drives aren't the 5400rpm drives of 2004.

            See hmyah.

Not in casing? So we just get a bunch of platters with a sata interface?

yea, its called an internal hard drive.

Well I got the joke. :)

      • +7

Same. Can't believe people negative voted that joke.

  • Like how it states original price $249. Now $85

I picked up the speedy F3 from Megaware for $100. If you're buying a 5400 RPM drive you're much better off (value wise) getting a 1.5TB or 2TB.

  • What more do you guys want? 1TB of storage delivered to your door for $85 with a 3 year warranty.
    It gets my vote !

PS I got the joke too

    • Hmm, I think because a few weeks ago F3's were here for around that price + shipping.

    • The warranty ain't worth the paper its written on (or the screen it's displayed on.

I RMAed a 1TB F1 samsung drive a month or so back, got the first drive is doa, second drive is now dying a slow death (10 secs to spin up), plus a long list of errors in the SMART error log.

  • Has anyone actually received one of these? Are they genuine? The market has quite a few fake Samsung 500GB and 750GB drives at the moment. These fakes are not made or supported by Samsung. I'm not implying that these are fake, but be careful.

  • I read on SilentPCReview forum that this drive has high seek noise and high defect rates, so you need to be able to return it conveniently.

Keep in mind this is a 5400rpm drive so it's best used for storage.

Meh deal. You can buy a 1Tb WD in a case from Officeworks for just $95.

    • Bit of an unnecessary negative vote. The WD drive does have a case, but if someone wants to plug it in directly to their PC to enjoy the extra speed of SATA and SMART capability they'll remove the case anyway. And it's $10 more.

      • You're missing the point of this website. This is a good price, but it's just not that much of a bargain. Especially when a same size drive can be had in a brand name USB enclosure for just $10 more, every day of the week. This site is about bargains and this is not a bargain, it's simply a good price. I stand by my vote.

Show me a 1TB solid state drive for $85 and I'll sing and dance for you.

    • Well it seems like you won't be doing your performance for quite some time then. Perhaps this time next year Meld :)

      • more like he's gonna be safe from any signing or dancing for the next few maybe 5 years and that's being hopeful that ssd pries will come down that fast, cause currently they're going for around US$4.5k

  • Seem to find 1TB hdds online for 80+$ elsewhere.

  • Not a bargain. Equivalent 1tb WD or Samsung drives can be found for around $80-$90 any day of the week.
