Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD - $119 ($92.57 with AmEx Deal) at Umart

120

Not a bad price for local stock with 5 year warranty - but if you were quick enough to sign up for the Amex deal then it brings it down to a very nice $92.57 -

Ensure you pay in store and not online as the AmEx offer doesn't include online purchases - see comments

Shopping Express has it for $119 delivered. This might work out better for those who doesn't qualify for Amex deal or unable to pick up from Umart.

    • Also available for the same price in store at MSY, ARC (NSW), Computer Alliance (QLD) and IJK (NSW).

Keep in mind AMEX Offer excludes online purchases, T&C's say:

    • Online transactions and phone orders are excluded
    • Participating Stores Offer is only available in-store at participating Mid Year merchants in Australia

and to contradict this Umart says:

    • You have a choice to pay by VISA,MASRTER or pay cash when you pick up your order
    • -2

Yep, title is misleading. $119 is only available on the internet. In store price is $129

    • With Umart you can't just walk in and buy stuff at the counter right? If i remember correctly, you "order" online and then collect and pay in store.

Has anyone succeed in getting the Umart Amex offer and how did you do?

      • +4

No you can't "just" walk in. However, they have a couple of PCs (in the Milton store at least) so I believe you can:
        - walk in
        - login to your Umart account
        - browse and place your order for the "internet price"
        - LOGOUT

Then you walk 3 steps, enter your order number, and they call out your name. You walk up to the counter and pay the internet price (or the internet price plus 3% for a credit card).

Haven't yet done the AMEX deal, but am planning on it. I'll order before I go though. Ordering online is really just reserving stock. So, contrary to what JV says, you can easily get the "online" price (whether you complete your transaction online or in store).

        • Thanks. I am planning to get some RAM and stuff as well (at Eight Mile Plains store) and hope they can split payment :-D

        • you can easily get the "online" price

but not the AMEX rebate. It will be an online order…

        • 8 Mile Plains store also has PCs on the side to do this. You have to order online but the guys aren't usually douches and will just give you the internet price most often or even help you order it on one of the PCs available.

        • @jv:

Incorrect. AMEX offer excludes online "transactions", not Umart's online "orders".

You initially commented that "$119 is only available on the internet. In store price is $129". I have picked up most of my PC components at Umart. I have never paid anything other than the "internet price". And it seems everyone else here who has actual knowledge of the way Umart works (rather than some misguided but apparently superior knowledge garnered by ozmosis) agrees with this state of affairs.

But you have now argued about the AMEX Rebate rather than the price. Again, your statement is incorrect. If you choose to complete (i.e. pay for) your order online, then you get the online price but not the AMEX rebate. But I did not disagree with you on that basis because your comment had never even mentioned the AMEX rebate: it was only your incorrect comment about the "price" that I corrected. If you wanted to comment, you should have said "yes, you can get the online price. However, I would add that you will not get the AMEX rebate if you complete the transaction online".

          Here are the possibilities:
Order online, pay online —> internet price (plus delivery), No AMEX rebate.
Order online, pay in store —> internet price plus AMEX rebate
Order in store, from an in store terminal, pay in store —> internet price, AMEX rebate
Order in store, from a sales rep —> internet price if you ask for it (usually), AMEX rebate
Order in store, from a sales rep —> in store price (if they are being stingy), AMEX rebate

So, there's only one way to get the "in store" price. There's also only one way not to get the AMEX rebate.

If you want to make a correct statement about price - learn how Umart transactions actually work.
If you want to make a correct statement about the AMEX offer - learn how Umart transactions actually work.

      • If i remember correctly, you "order" online and then collect and pay in store.

And then you won't get the AMEX offer…

        • Whether you order online or not, you pay in-store through the eftpos machine. Amex has no visibility of how you ordered - only of how you paid.

        • @Joberu: Was anyone able to get the AMEX cashback with Umart? I have $300 to spend, with 3 AMEX cards that have the offer saved.

@lostn: It works that way, order online to be picked up in store, pay in store. I got one this afternoon in West ryde NSW.

        • As others have said, you order on line selecting the pay instore, credit card, and pick up options. I bought yesterday from the west ryde store and paid with the in store pos terminal. This triggered the amex thank you for spending mid year email.

        • The "retail" price is if you sit in store with one of the consultants and they do your order for you.

If you order online (whether at home or one of the computers instore) and pay in store, you will pay the online price.

If you pay instore you will get the amex rebate.

    …..they still make 250gb ssd drives……

  • I tried to place an online order with Umart. Doesn't let me pick up.

    It says

I am not a member, please let me join now.
You must be a member before buying anything from us!

But I already am signed in!

I tried clicking the sign up button anyway and created a new account, and I still get the same thing showing up. Not letting me "purchase" anything.

The only thing that works is Post.

How do you pick up in storE?
