I'm not entirely sure we are heading in the right direction with these multiple times per day referral COTD links…
Kind of feels like that random COTD deals being posted with a ref link, which isn't really in the spirit of OZB.

    • +3

Doesn't matter the more the merrier as long genuinely cheapest available at present.

    • But there's no referral here…

Its a little bit old compared to the current market - still classified as the "first gen" of the Android Wear in line with LG G, Original Moto 360 etc.

    Best features of this watch:
    * Battery life is extraordinary - Best in class with 4 days of low consumption with the default screen. (My original pebble only beats it by 1/2 day in contrast)
    * Its the only First Gen that is getting Android Wear 2.0 in the next few months. Sony has announced continual support for it and there's no SW4 in sight.
    * has onboard GPS for more accuracy in sports apps
    * direct MicroUSB charging. No need to fumble or bring along another docking station and no need to worry about metal touch ports being rusted (ala LG G)
    * Fast - compare to my other 1st Gen's, its very active
    * That ugly Green Band is readily changed for another colour or metallic if you want (ebay)
    * The most water proof of the 1st Gen
    * Has WIFI inbuilt by default

    The misses
    * No Heart rate monitor - though my Miband is a substitute
    * Looks rather plan and drab and square
    * Use the Google Fitness.. dont bother with the Sony stuff

$161 is not bad price for it since it is still going to be supported (I got mine for $120 but with voucher codes to the max). I would rate this as the best square / 1st gen Android Wear by a long margin. I do miss the Heart Rate monitor and it would be rated as the best if it had it on board.
It is my default travel watch too whenever I go away on holidays due to the awesome battery life, and direct MicroUSB charging out of my multiport charger without another dock. I'd give it 9/10 for me and its still my favourite now after a year (between my harem of Gear 1, Gear S, Moto 360, LG G, Pebble etc).

    • Thanks gee do you still have /keep all those watches?

Question. Can I buy the green band first and later swap with leather or metal, buy cheap Chinese knock off from ebay?

Just check eBay no cheap replacement band?

      • +1

I got one of these official adapters http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/361542404336

And this band in 24mm http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121685788147

With the adapter you can use any band you like.

      • The band's have gone up in price now on eBay. Interesting. The cheapest I've seen on eBay was around $30 for the rubber plastic black bands and about $100 for the metal ones.

Maybe see if you can find some on the drop ship sites? I'll have a look later too. For the price difference in this deal, you might as well go for the metal band if it is going to cost $70 to change it back to black.

Btw. I really only use the sw3, moto360 and gear s. Alternative the watches between weeks.

    • Where on ebay can u get metallic band? Been searching for ages. Even leather would be great.

Also noting that gps drains battery pretty quick. Pretty much dead after 18 holes using golfshot (one of the main reasons I bought the watch). But imo, that's pretty good and charges to full in about 1 hr for me.

      Overall, great watch.

    • does this have a speakerphone for making calls

      • No it doesn't. Only the later second gen ones have this function. Otherwise get a galaxy gear

    • Isn't the optical heart rate monitor a bit of a gimmick? All of the optical (SmartWatch) monitors only effectively read your resting rate. Once you start moving they seem to be useless? At least that's been my experience.

The Sony also has an ambient light sensor and is amazingly easy to read in bright sunlight - even in ambient mode. And one of the very few with NFC which is coming soon to Android wear.

  • How would you compare with Pebble round smart watch ? same price, cheers

    • +2

I don't have a Pebble Round but pebbles are a lot less "smart" than the Android Wear. So it depends on what you want at the end of the day. The Pebbles don't even have touch screens and barely colored. Only thing going for it is battery and maybe looks. But the battery is about the same compared to this anyway, so I'd rather a smarter watch IMO.

This is the first Smartwatch I have owned and while it is functional it is a little disappointing to be honest.

I bought from Officeworks at $169 a couple of weeks ago, (black rubber band version) to replace my Garmin Vivosmart, which lasted just over a year (or just past its warranty if you are cynical).

I had read that this was the best smartwatch for a fitness band replacements and for an extra $50 I thought I would upgrade to a smartwatch, but tbh I preferred my Vivosmart as a fitness band.

Yes there are additional features, like voice commands and readable push notifications, but sometimes they just don't work. Steps sometimes need to be manually synced and even the clock loses track of the time. I am not sure whether this is a problem with G-Fit or the watch, but it also thinks when I take it golfing, I also ride my bike round the course (at walking pace). It is a great range finder when combined with Hole19 app tho. ;)

Battery life is a day (a full 24 hours mind (and not just dawn to dusk) and the charging is a little fiddly.

I guess as an upgrade from a fitness band it is worth the extra $50, but I'm not sold on it as a smartwatch, or maybe I am just not sold on smartwatches yet…although I still would love a Moto 360…if only they were available in Oz

    • I find the battery life on all the Android Wear to be dependent on the watch face and app you put on. The more functions you put onto a default face , the more battery life. I find the default face on the Sw3 is good enough balance with good battery life.

    • Are you referring to the moto 360 sport?

  • Had one for a year now and no complaints, love to pick up a metal band for my black one but struggle to find stock anywhere.

    COTD SPAM.

Isnt this the normal price? Its old now, of course the price wont be RRP.

Also I had this watch. It was slow and laggy. Felt like a beta testing product. Wouldnt pay more than $100.

  • if only $99 free shipping i will bite one.

  • If I join COTD I get it for $0?????
