Anyone received one yet that can confirm the drive inside this batch?

I got the 5400rpm drive. WD80EZZX if I remember right. No HGST unfortunately!

  • The WD My Book 8TB External HDD A$264 is a good price only if you have so much data to fill. The cheapest I can find A$358.39 delivered.

Is it s green inside ?

And it does 100meg a sec? Not like the archieve ones?

    • They average around 160MBps as the top speed.

      • but is it sustained or does it drop of to 30mg like the archived ones?

        • +1

All drives drop speed as more of it is filled, its at full speed around the first platter, and continuously drops to about 20-30 megs/sec when its about 20% disk space left.

        • @garetz: I thought the speed dropped as it gets closer to the center of the platters. While angular velocity is constant, the linear velocity is reduced.

        • -2

          @garetz:

          Not what I'm talking about.

The burst speed of the archive 8tb is full but then drops to 30meg soon after regales of it full or not. It's software limited as far as I can tell.

        • @T1OOO:

Sustained. I've had mine pushing 160MBps for over an hour several times.

        • @T1OOO: Er … but if it's software limited why are you even telling us your experiences? It has nothing to do with this drives performance.

        • @Diji1:

because they limit the drives performance coz they are so bloody crap they will die if they are used for long term. just google the archive versions.

I received a WD80EZZX on Friday,The HGST drives were in the earlier 2015 My Books

Some benchmarks of the WD80EZZX. http://www.servethehome.com/wd-book-8tb-5400rpm-wd80ezzx-ben…

    • Me too, WD80EZZX inside, these are basically a WD Blue 8tb, even though Blue 8tb is not yet officially available.

No TLER enabled in case anybody was wondering.

The WD says "Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months"

    ….

  • "Sorry, this Seller doesn’t deliver to Australia"?

    • You have to select Amazon as the seller. Click on "10 new" on the right hand side under "Other Sellers on Amazon" and select Amazon.

Even the site shows GBP 161.1. But during checkout:

    Items: GBP 135.92
    Postage & Packing: GBP 15.79
    (Order Total: GBP 151.71)
    Payment Total: AUD 274.21

1 to 2 months dispatcher time is the deal breaker.

That's what it said when I ordered on the 11th, then they found some and they were shipped yesterday :)

      • The hell? I ordered on the 7th and nada.

    • I want one. But I dont need one. Very tempting.

    • VAT is removed at checkout.

    • it shows GBP 163.1 (AUD $283.95), why?

      • Because it includes VAT, same as we include GST when selling in Australia.

As mentioned above it's removed at checkout.

  • bought 1 8TB hdd, let's see when it will delivery…. is it really 1-2 months? lol

    • Ordered mine on the 7th and was delivered on 14th

Anyone else get their order cancelled saying it was a pricing error?

    • Yes, me… here the email message from Amazon.

      Hello,

The price for `Western Digital My Book 8 TB External Hard Drive - Black' (ASIN: B01BBZ4Q0C) was displayed incorrectly when you placed your order 203-2413482-4035521.

Despite our best efforts, with the millions of items available on our website, pricing errors can occasionally occur.

In our Conditions of Use and Sale (see http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeI…), we state that where an item's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will, at our discretion, cancel the order and notify you of that cancellation.

Your order has now been cancelled. If you still want to purchase this item, please place a new order which will be charged at the correct price, when we dispatch it to you.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and hope to see you again soon.

      Regards,

      Customer Service Department

      • yeah, we are all on same boat.

    • Yup, but what really ticks me off is I also had to cancel a just shipped order as they originally wouldn't refund the difference.

      • What was the list price inc VAT for the ones you got? Surely if it was a price error for this latest lot the price shouldn't jump up so high unless all the other previous orders from the previous week were incorrect as well?

I thought Amazon was great at looking after customers but shafting a whole heap due to a few £ seems weird. Maybe they got so much response they thought they could sell them higher.

        • +1

The original order I had to cancel they were £180 each inc VAT (£150 exVAT), now I can't even order them at the original price.

        • @CH: That's pretty bad. After reading some people got theirs sent way earlier than 1-2 months I ordered one. Same issue, price error.
I emailed them back and forth asking if they would honour the previous price (the one you got) or at least some % off and it just went in circles. Very unlike any Amazon experience I have had beforehand. They wouldn't accept any price other than the one listed and that was it. 6 emails later and I'm done with them.

I do understand it's a price error but not willing to even do anything in the way to help purchase at even last weeks rates and the confusing emails back (one said they have a solution to get the previous price and then next line is apologising) is a bit slack.

I'm guessing they got Ozbargained and had too many orders to honour.

@4892: First bad experience for me too, but I've only ever dealt with the US store.

Did have a $10 win due to the exchange rate, $830 was originally paid but got $840 back:)
