Sony Xperia Z5 (Gold and White) $549 Delivered @ Sony Store eBay

360
CTEC20

The Z5 Compact seemed popular so thought this may be useful for some people - only available in Gold colour though.

UPDATE: Also available in white (thanks BargainHunter) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282100623892

Not sure about the heating issues related to the snapdragon 810 but pretty much the same as the Z5C except this is obviously bigger (5.2 inches vs 4.6 inches) and has more RAM (3gb vs 2gb).

Actually, they also have it in White http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282100623892

  • i just cracked my Sony xperia Z ultra. and just brought this. Hopefully the stupid ebay votes of 93.2% positive feedback doesn't bite me in the ass. Seriously need a phone and can't deal with more request for refunds because sellers not obligating to sell it because we found cool deals on ozbargin.

    • and I did not notice the white one above……. So i'm going to have to deal with a bloody gold one for a few years until I crack another phone….

      • +5

        Sorry… I'm just raging atm. just tired…..

        • Send them a message to ask to swap.

      • Haha you're really going to kick yourself when you see the chrome (I think maybe this is what commenter is referring to by "white"?) - pictures really do not do the phone justice.

Chrome Z5 look spectactular IMO - mirror-like surface.

        • +3

          That's the Z5 premium you're thinking of.

        • +1

The chrome is Z5 Premium, a different model.

        • @PVA: Gotcha, my mistake!

  • Damn, I bought it less than a month a go at Sony.com.au @ $699…

    • And you like it? Quick review, please?

  • Any comment on this phone? Seems like some people have overheating issues

    • +2

owned two Sony phones so far(Xperia Z, Z3C) and both of them overheat like crazy. Seems like a Sony trademark.

      • +1

Yeah i have a z2 and it overheats too. Thought i heard it is worse on this one though

        • yeh, you are looking at the Snapdragon 810, the infamous heat generator.

    • See below

  • Worth the extra $150 than the z5compact ?

    • I have a z5 and to be honest I find it a little big, and considering its 150 more I would definitely be buying the compact. You miss out on a gig of ram but considering its a lower res screen it may make up for some of that

      • Thanks mate. Already ordered the z5.. The size was my concern too but was using the G4 which is bigger but the leather back and the curve made it easy to hold so yes the z5 might be a bit uncomfortable to hold

        • And the corners poke through your jeans, after while you can end up with a mark

  • Yeah the 810 really needs water cooling. More recent phones like the Lumia 950XL and the Galaxy S7 have heatpipes containing water vapour that condense and change phases to slowly wick off excess heat.

Although apparently the Z5 and Z5 premium also have dual heatpipe cooling
    http://www.slashgear.com/sony-xperia-z5-using-dual-heat-pipe…
    it's apparently not enough either…

For all those asking here is my review of my Sony Z5. Bought it on launch so october last year.

Front camera is ok, not good in low light like snapchatting while drunk without street lights.
Back Camera, pretty good. Just opened it. Took 3 seconds. I could probably do with a fresh install though.
Android Marshmallow made a bluetooth streaming stutter. Was fixed a few weeks ago in an update.

I don't have it over heat. Not ever. Excluding when I take it into an infrared sauna. I have it in a case too. I don't game on the phone often but when I have, no issues.

Apps like chrome are responsive. No issues.

No dropped calls and stuff. Good antenna.

Battery, unlike my older iphone, lasts until 2% or whatever. Doesn't hit 10% and turnoff.

Water proof ability. I work in the tropics and have no worries about water. I don't actively get it wet but I don't worry if it gets wet.

    Fingerprint reader is responsive.

Apps like snapchat and stuff crash sometime, but I think that is more android.

Power usage is quite high. But I like brightness.I use apps like 360 booster to close apps and stuff.

    Wifi- No issues

bluetooth- occasional issue when I connect to sony bluetooth headphones and sound comes out of phone still. I normally just flick off and on bluetooth and then same thing with headphones. Once again, probably marshmallow.

At times I have thought about upgrading to S7 and then I think, "why, this works so well and fits well in my hand".

I dig my phone, I always use screen protectors and all is good.

Just a note**** Buy a case, not a rear glass protector. I found the flash reflects of a bit of the glass protector and blurs night shots. Once I took mine off all was improved.

It's a good price, hands down.

    • Yeah the front selfie camera on the z2 is pretty average as well, I guess nothing has changed.

I wonder what had been upgraded from the z2 to z5? Seems to be quite incremental.

Good price but shocking feedback for a store like this…..very suprised.

  • Can't tell much from details in the eBay listing. What is the product code? Is it the dual SIM version? Why does it say only 16gb capacity? I can look up reviews but it might be a different model of z5.

  • Z5 has proximity issues. Unlocks in your pocket heaps

    • +1

Never had that problem with mine.

      • heaps of reviews online indicating there is a problem.

        • +1

I must be lucky I guess. I do have a glass screen protector if that would make a difference (i doubt it)

  • Only 20 sold (gold and white) even after the discount ..

    • Thought this was a decent deal and almost bought it last night, but 20 positives is not really an ozbargain seal of approval.. :)

      • I already bought one and am still unsure.. Might just give it a go and return in the next 30 days if it fails to impress.

        • +1

"Items purchased on the Sony eBay Store are only able to be returned if deemed faulty. We do not allow for change of mind."

        • @cdundee: Thanks mate. Guess in that case will need to cancel before they ship it.. Thanks

        • I've tried the phone and I was impressed, for the price it is great especially being local stock but the amount of issues with the overheating pushed me away…

      • It's a new-ish phone with a mediocre chipset for a recent flagship. It has the same SOC as its predecessor (Z3+/Z4), and the Snapdragon 810 has a poor reputation (especially inside Sony phones). This phone is outstripped (just) by a ~$220AUD Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (after cashback). Of course the Z5 looks great, is waterproof, and their cameras are the best (IMO). But the price is just too high for the spec.

    • High price with poor after sale service are the reason.
It is a good phone and I had considered getting myself one but many people have reported cracking screen and glassy back are pushing me away.
Plus its hell expensive to replace the screen.

  • This is quite tempting but probably gonna grab a Nexus 5X instead.

  • The xperia z5 is 1080p where the compact is 720p and the z5 has better battery life as well.

  • To anyone buying this phone, please consider getting a tempered glass protector for the back at least. These things crack from just tapping your leg when running.

Small price ($3 from eBay) to pay, as Sony doesn't usually repair the phone under warranty for any issues if there are any signs of damage. Make sure it's one with a cutout for the LED flash so it doesn't distort it.

  • all sold out :( was hoping they will put black one later . now missed it !
