Same here quite happy as well but I guess it gets cheaper as the Redmi Note 4 is about to be released. Just one hint to others who might consider the phone: There is no Australian locality to choose from when setting up the phone, but so far I have seen no negative impact from that.

    • +1

Apparently it will be called the "Redmi Pro" and has a Helio X20 SOC.
Either way, I am very pleased with my Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime. Incredible performance and value for money.

    • +8

BTW, I'm using Singapore as locale, as it's in my timezone. No impact, except it adds "lah" to the end of every sentence I type.

      • Lol

  • Yep the Redmi Note 4 will be announced next week hence the price drops.

  • +2

Anyone else getting $12 or $16 us for shipping ?

That takes the total up to $230

    • +1

Yeah, apparently no free shipping. Only DHL or EMS.

    • +1

      I get the same.

@daveaus is there a way to get free shipping?

      • Nope, sorry about that! I am so used to everything being shipped free on Aliexpress I didn't notice the shipping charge. I have updated the price.

When I bought mine I paid extra for the DHL and it came in a week or so. I think its worth paying for the DHL on something worth this much anyway.

  • Feeling kinda stupid but can someone please enlighten me on the difference between these phones???

    1. Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime
    2. Redmi Note 3 Pro
    3. Redmi Note 3
    4. Redmi 3
    5. Redmi 3 Pro
    6. Redmi 3 Pro Prime

(I'm sure similar questions have been asked but I couldn't find a comprehensive comparison)

Also, how do these phones compare to a Samsung GS5? Any foreseeable issues?
For reference, my carrier is Virgin mobile.
I'm not tech-savvy (so would prefer to not have to flash roms)

    Thanks in advance.

    • +3

There's even more options than those you list there.

In general the Note ones are bigger versions - like the difference between a Galaxy S5 and a Galaxy Note 3.

There are at least four different SOC/CPU variants of the Redmi Note 3 series. The Snapdragon 616, Snapdragon 650 and there are two MTK versions too. Possibly more.

In general for the Redmi Note 3 I'd stick with Snapdragon 650 variants. I believe they're usually called the Note 3 Pro which is the 2GB/16GB variant and the Note 3 Pro Prime which is the 3GB/32GB variant with all other specs being the same.

I have a Note 3 Pro Prime. You can flash it by following these instructions: http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

If you're not comfortable following those then I'd say don't bother getting one.

      • Probably best to get the snap dragon versions, I had the mtk and smashed it after a month of problems with every call I had

    • +1

I am using a Virgin sim card as well as a Telstra sim card and don't have any problems. I am on a custom rom which shouldn't make a difference.

      • Thanks Dave, Do you get Telstra 4gx speeds?

        • I have Virgin set for 4g and I am overseas at the moment so can't test it sorry.

        • I have the Snapdragon 650, 3gRam/32gRom.
I am with Telstra and the 4g speed I am getting is 55.45mpb/s down and 36.10mpb/s up.
Even though I don't get 4gx because of the hardware, but my results from speedtest is more than sufficient to download any files and pics very quickly.
I bought one for myself and since then I have bought another 2 for my family.
The most recent buy was from Geekbuying when they had the Xiaomi promo last week.
I paid USD$172 including DHL express shipping (don't forget CashRewards cashback).
They shipped out Sunday evening and I got the phone on Tuesday in Perth metro.
Just ensure that you are getting an Official Miui Stable Global Rom, if you are not comfortable with flashing it.

      3 Pro - Good CPU, 2GB RAM
3 Pro Prime - Good CPU, 3GB RAM

      • Cheers mate, exactly what I'm after.

  • There might also be a version of the Redmi Note 3 (Pro?) that also includes Band 28, but it might only be available from the 25th July. I know they were releasing it in Singapore, not sure if anywhere else and/or if it's simply a inplace upgrade of the phone.

    • It's the Taiwan edition and already available on Aliexpress.

      http://www.aliexpress.com/item/International-Version-Xiaomi-…

The downside is that it's 2GB/16GB.

      • Since they have launched a 2GB version, I expect the 3 GB version soon.

        • I hope so. There was no announcement for one by Xiaomi.

@daveaus is your one come with original china firmware (Chinese & English language, no Google Apps) or global firmware (with multi language & Google Apps). If global firmware, can it be updated through OTA? Thanks

    • I am not sure what this seller does with the firmware sorry. But if you Ctrl F on the aliexpress page and search for firmware he says he will enable multi language and google play for you.

When I bought mine I asked them not to touch the firmware and I did it myself.

I am not associated with this store. Not sure why it says I am and won't let me untick it.
      MOD: Fixed

  • why not many review for the prime model online?

  • nah i will wait for mi max. i dont want to downgrade from 5.7" galaxy note 3 to this 5.5"

  • Im tossing up between this and the Samsung Galaxy J5 Dual SIM J500F 4G about same price.

    • Dual SIM Convenience

Use Dual SIM to integrate your work and personal numbers onto one device. The two SIMs work simultaneously, allowing you to make and take calls using both numbers.

so you can call and receive on same phone? LOL

  • You can get it on eBay for slightly more with Au warranty so in case of issues you just ship it to an Australian address.

    • Got a link to that BH??

        • I've come across a few sellers of those just now as I was looking but none have stated its the "Prime" version. Not sure if these are the exact same models as the Prime or these are an older model??

Do you or anyone else for that matter know what the go is here. Are the ones on eBay the same model as this one in the OP??

        • @TilacVIP:

The prime is the 32gb/3gb Ram model with the Snapdragon 650. In my opinion, this is the only one to buy. So as long as you get a Note 3 pro with 3gb Ram and 32gb Storage, you're getting the best model. The only other consideration is the rom, whether you get the original, or international or custom.

        • @anzacpaul:

That's the thing, the ebay link BarginHunter provided shows no mention of the processor being Snapdragon 650 nor uses the word "Prime" in his sale, which leads me to believe it could be an older model, but I am not very familiar with these models, so it could well be the same one… just a bit thin on the specs they are!!

        • @TilacVIP: What I have noticed is that the listing refers to a hexa-core as opposed to octa-core which would be the mtk processor. If I'm wrong about this feel free to correct me, but the SD is a hexacore and the mtk is octacore.

        • @quietsarcasm:
You are spot on, and in theory the ebay one that Bargain Hunter linked, that lists as Hexa-Core 3GB RAM / 32GB ROM in fact should be the "Prime" model. The non-prime model is the 2GB / 16GB version.

        • @TilacVIP: At least with eBay you have the buyer protection the fall back on in the event that it is not the pro prime and was incorrectly labelled on the listing

If you are looking at ones on eBay I strongly suggest looking into the seller first. There was one seller I was looking at ordering from who seemed to have good feedback (98.9% from ~20k) but a google search of the sellers name yielded a very different response from customers.

        • @TilacVIP:

If they are 3GB, 32GB storage they are Prime even the seller didn't say that on the title.

From a user of this phone for 3 months now

    1. Welcome to Xiaomi Redmi note 3 pro prime club. You'll love this phone because the performance is incredible for its price.

    2. But, there is price to pay as most Xiaomi phones are selling with "Seller-installed ROM" which is not as stable as the official ROM. Sometimes the ROM installed by sellers in China put some dodgy apps in your phone. So, you'd better erase everything and flash the latest Global ROM. Please follow 'http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html" (official MIUI website)

    3. Unlocking the bootloader and flashing are 2 separate procedures and a better way to have a stable phone OS. Thankfully, those steps are not difficult. Myself as a first time buyer didn't have any issues and took 5 minutes. Once you have flashed it, you can update your phone via OTA (almost automatically) when there is any latest version.

    4. The latest global ROM is still based on Android 5 but the new MIUI 8 based on Android 6 will be released in August.

This phone is a flagship killer and I sold my galaxy note 4 as I dont need any expensive phones.

Apart from not having NFC, I havent had any issues with Xiaomi note 3 pro prime and it does all the jobs that my Galaxy note 4 did for me.

    Enjoy!!

    • +2

I have one too, this phone is insane!

It has convinced me that I will never buy an expensive flagship phone again, this phone cost me $270 when I got it and it easily compares with phones from competitors that are asking for about $1000 (give or take couple hundred).

Almost everything is fantastic, it is bloody quick and rarely gets unresponsive.

The camera may not be the greatest, but for someone who is not too fussy and takes general casual photos of places I go and just selfies it does very, very well.

    • Thanks for sharing.
What do you think about the size of the phone?
Having owned a Samsung S5 (and thought the 5" was pretty darn big already), I'm not sure if I should go for this 5'5" or the redmi 3 pro (5")…it seems that the specs are stronger on the note but I like the look of the smaller version more…hmmmm anyone else with this dilemma?

      • +1

Go with 5.5 because of the massive battery. I only recharge my phone twice a week. This battery is insane.

        • +1

          Someone is not playing Pokemon.

  • Really tempted by this deal…

    • +2

      Join the club!

And buy some xiaomi earphone as well as they dont come with the phone.

Try hybrid xiaomi earphone or poston2 earphone. You will be surprised how $30 dollar worth of earphones perform compared to luxury ones.

I love my piston 2 as the bass is amazing.

      • Agree, Piston 2 sound incredible. You can actually feel reverberation.

  • Asked this before cause I'm super anal, but will it be okay to buy it if I don't intend to flash the Rom or whatever it's called. As I don't own a PC

    • +1

Depends on what ROM it comes loaded with - people like flashing the official ROM onto it because the Vendor ROMS are often malware riddled spyware filled pieces of software.

You can probably borrow someone else's computer to install the official stuff, from then on you only need to do OTA updates…

      • Thanks think I'll decline in that case

        • Ok, but it's not difficult - you just (should) do it once!

  • This or the redmi 3 pro going as a deal now? Other than size what else should I be wary of?

    Thanks guys

    • Go for the 3GB Ram and 32GB Storage.

  • If anyone is after a screen protector for this I am using this $2.50 glass one and it seems pretty good:

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Retail-Package-For-Xiaomi-Red…

    • I bought mine from ebay local seller for around $6 and received it quick.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this a slightly better deal?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note3-Pro-Prime-Snap…

    • +2

Cheaper but ~1 week tracked delivery vs 1-2 month untracked and 5 year running aliexpress store with hundreds of thousands if not millions of sales and a good rating and an ebay account with a grand total of 14 sales.

  • Depending what the dollar does, but with the 'cashback' this might come out a couple of bux cheaper. Having said that, if your credit card is not fee free then that would make it about the same.

That ebayer is still new to the game with only 264 feddback, and none for phones as far as i can see. Guess PayPal has your back right?

  • How does this compare to an old Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE. Thinking of upgrading my old Note, but on other hand I think the Xiaomi Max feels nice in the hand since its so thin.. The Xiaomi Note felt a little bulky. I visited the Xiaomi store about 2 months ago to see in person.

  • I took the plunge and ordered 2, however as of yet its not shipped. Currently its

    Awaiting Shipment
Processing Time remaining: 1 days 1 hours 2 minutes

    Anyone have the same issue??

    • Mine took almost a week before it shipped but finally only took totally 3 weeks to arrive.
