  • weird…. When i visit that site there is nothing there to buy. Searching for playstation, zero results. Xbox zero results….

  • hmm…when you click playstation link on the left panel it should go to where all the consoles are. they sell the hardware not really any games.

  • How is the discount worked out? Is there a list of products that have "Whirlpool specials"? Related discussion on Whirlpool.net.au?

  • yes i remember there was a discussion about this on whirlpool a while ago (i too am a member of whirlpool). its a discount for anything on the website that you enter at the checkout.

  • Are-Jays.com - is it dodgy? (Whirlpool)

Nedlands cyber seller a menace (WA Department of Consumer and Employment Protection)

The Consumer Protection watchdog is warning online shoppers to beware of a dodgy Perth based trader who sells electronic equipment over the Internet.

Richard James McPharlin of Bedford Street in Nedlands and his business Are-Jays Electronics first came to the attention of Consumer Protection in 2006 when trading on the Internet.

He specialises in selling digital cameras and mobile phones online.

Since Mr McPharlin registered his business name in September last year there have to date been 45 formal complaints lodged against him.

"Consumer Protection officers have been working extremely hard with this trader in an attempt to get him to modify his business practices and address the concerns of his customers," WA Consumer Protection Commissioner Patrick Walker said.

"Despite assurances from Mr McPharlin that he would improve his practices and provide a written undertaking to confirm this, he has disdainfully failed to make good on his promises and consumers continue to suffer.

"The public naming of rogue traders and the associated consumer warnings that follow in the media are very serious matters and can have dire consequences on the future of traders named.

"The public naming of Mr McPharlin and his business will be circulated to all Australian consumer protection agencies as well as various online locations such as Blogs, as Cyberspace should be no haven for traders with little regard for their customers or the law," Mr. Walker said.

Are-Jays is the worst online retail trader ever to come to the attention of Consumer Protection and formal investigations which could result in court action are continuing.

Generally, Mr McPharlin has failed to supply goods that were paid for, supplied faulty goods and offered no redress and ignored numerous customer’s emails and telephone calls.

"We advise in the strongest possible terms that consumers have nothing to do with Mr McPharlin or his business and recommend that anyone with outstanding consumer issues relating to this trader contact us for assistance as soon as possible," Commissioner Walker said.

Consumer Protection can be contacted on telephone number 1300 30 40 54 or by emailing [email protected].

    • Thank you for the info — I'll probably add Are-Jays to ban list (when there is a ban list :)

  • yeah i should've had more background knowledge of the store - i don't remember that article (haven't logged onto whirlpool for a while). i wouldn't want anyone to shop at a dodgy online store.
