Logitech Harmony Companion Remote with Hub - EUR 90.8 (~AU $134) Shipped @ Amazon France

50

Retail price in Australia is $250. JB Hifi is selling for $200 on special. Current 20% ebay deal makes it around $180 (on a price of $229 from offering retailers). So, you save some money by ordering it from Amazon France. Note, this is the newer version of the remote with buttons for home automation devices. Stock is showing only 12 left but I am not sure if it will be the same price after re-stocking. Apparently, this is on 40% discount on Amazon France. Product photo does not show the hub but the description says the hub is included in the box.

  • Seems expensive for remote, what is the hub and its purpose? If I don't need the hub thingies, will the remote itself in this package is in the same league as harmony 650? ($55 ish)

Compared to 650, this one has the following pros and cons:

      Pros:
      1. No need to point the remote to the TV.
      2. Can control Philips hue lights and other compatible wireless devices.
      3. You can use your android or Apple phone to control devices.
      4. You can define up to 50 activities in your phone and 6 on remote.
      5. Battery lasts about a year.
      6. You can control your devices from your phone even when you are out of home.
      7. You can set up voice control of your devices if you have Amazon Echo (needs IFTTT).

      Cons:
      1. It does not have a screen.
      2. Its more expensive.

From what I can gather, Bluetooth supports a big difference.

  • ok, what does it do. My Harmony One is pretty good.

Can control devices without line of sight eg devices behind doors.

  • Cut down version of the ultimate/elite as it can only control 8 devices. But not a bad price considering the hub alone doesn't cost much less.

The remote feels great in the hand and the button layout is excellent, however, it does not have back-lit keys, a dedicated help button, or a screen.

This means you can never be sure what activity you are in (unless you check the phone app), and if something does go wrong, you will have to use the app on a phone or tablet to use the help.

    • have back-lit keys, a dedicated help button, or a screen.

And harmony 650 has them? Im leaning towards 650 now for Mrs as she doesn't like complicated things

      • And harmony 650 has them?

Yep - the 650 is the pick of the bunch out of the current remotes IMO (besides the $300 Elite).

        • Seconded, Harmony 650 is fantastic!

      • 650 is great to use (I have 3) but the quality seems a bit lacking. On all 3 some buttons have to be pressed very hard to register. They are about 2 years old and don't get a lot of use. It seems Logitech products in general are not as good as they were a few years ago. I had a Harmony One before, that lasted about 6 years with regular use.

$38 at dick smith. Love it.

Best feature is when you program an activity on the remote but need an extra function, use the phone app to access a virtual remote with all the original buttons

You should set up your activities better

I don't need the 'clear voice' button for my sound bar all the time

So this is the successor to the Logitech Harmony Smart Control ? Main improvement being some dedicate buttons for home smart devices? The Smart Control seems still available online at some Aussie stores for around this price - so paying the same for the upgraded device is a good deal if you are considering the Smart Control. I have 3 x 650's and I bought a Smart Control in the last Ozbargain JB HiFi deal which has replaced the 650 in our living room. Extremely happy with it. Considering getting another to replace the 650 in the bedroom. Much more reliable than the 650 owing to radio rather than infrared transmission - and I much prefer the smaller remote with long lasting batteries. I have errors very infrequently - usually the TV not switching to the correct input. I find that is almost always fixed by simply pressing the activity button again - hardly ever have to use the phone to correct an error. It is also nice to have the options of using the phone. Much higher WAF than the 650 - especially for multi-device activities (eg TV, media computer, AV receiver).
