  • This is a great deal if you aren't too interested in the upcoming 4k updated versions! Stan does suck though.

    • +7

The 4K versions are over 1 year away.

      • -5

        Are they? Source?

They're in so much trouble if that's true. PS4 didn't get a lot of traction and sales will be dead in the mean time.

XBONE is in the same position but at least the S with 4K and HDR will be available next month. That's a pretty amazing deal even if they're already haemorrhaging sales because of their idiotic Scorptec announcement.

Remember when consoles were going to last a decade?

        • +3

PS4 get any traction? Bruh, it's the main console this generation. XBone is pretty widely accepted to be lacking in the games department.

        • -2

@savebueller: Accepted by who? I have a backlog I will never complete.

        • Where's the source for your information?

        • +3

Xbone s will have uhd support for media playback only… Not games.

        • +4

@savebueller: Well, yes, Xbox One is lacking… If all you are after is games that contain Japanese school girls fighting monsters… For every exclusive "mainstream", game there is usually a clone of it on the other console. I own both and I can't really say I prefer one over the other…

        • -1

@shadowarrior: It will have 4K upscaling for games as well.

        • -1

          @sallan75: Sure. :)

        • +1

@pegaxs: haha that description cracked me up.

        • @shadowarrior: It will, learn to do some research.

        • @sallan75: Ofcourse. Btw, I may or may not work for a game developer. And I may or may not have a S dev kit on my desk. But I definitely can't take pictures and post.

        • @shadowarrior: I couldn't care less about you. Aaron Greenberg from Microsfot has confirmed the One S will upscale games to 4K output.

      • Unlike MS (who are strangely now very open about everything) they are probably keeping it quite as to not hurt their current sales…
I thought the new version would release about the same time as PSVR as they need the extra grunt to drive it properly, this would also tie pretty well into holiday sales…

DISCLAIMER: This is pure speculation on my part

  • +5

or get the same deal plus 2 games at big w for the same price.
    if still in stock

    • +1

Last I checked there's still plenty of stock. And both games can be traded in at JB for about $15 each.

  • -2

+1 for the first wave of comments :D

  • I'm not sure I see the point in upgrading any console right now. 4K is a few years away before it becomes mainstream, and you still need to get a 4K TV. Which, again, I don't see people getting anytime soon. Unless everyone is upgrading TVs like they upgraded mobile phones a couple of years ago.

  • As someone in the market for a new current gen console, isn't xbone white better as it supports 4k and hdr ?

    • +1

      4k for media playback…not games.

    • -1

Some games are scaled down to 720p @ 30fps. I mean the hardware limitation is obvious.
People buy a console to play exclusive. Don't expect you can play a game on maximum settings that you have seen on PC.

      • +1

I think you mean rendered at 720p. The amount of Xbox One games rendered at 720P you can count on one hand and were mostly launch titles.

        • there are 17 titles with lower resolutions than the PS4 in this list alone. Dark Souls 3 isn't in the list but it's also 900p vs full HD, that's an example of a recent game still with the issue.

        • Don't bother Sallan. I'm still waiting for motor89 to reply to me in another thread asking bout a great gaming PC I can get for under $400 that will do 1080 @ 60fps. Doesn't seem like he can fit into my console price budget…

And it appears he has a PS4 from another posting thread he made. Wonder why if all these games are at 720p…

    • -3

No PS4 is better for gaming. better games, better free games for PSN plus every month and is cheaper. if you care about online, there are more people online for most games on ps4 so easier to find matches and smother connection.

for watching movies, xbox slim is better cos have 4k.

      • -3

Better for gaming? Better games? Better for online? Grow up, the experience offered by both consoles is pretty much identical. Unless you enjoy watching japanese schoolgirls dance around in their underwear, wearing bunny ears. Then get a PS4.

        • +1

          the exclusives are quite different.
no idea what watching "japanese schoolgirls dance around in their underwear, wearing bunny ears" has to do with either console.

        • @Sage: Don't be silly. It is obvious reference to The Idolmaster series.

No wait, weren't the original and the 2nd Idolmaster exclusively released for Xbox initially?

So, the console for watching "japanese schoolgirls dance around in their underwear, wearing bunny ears" is Xbox.

      • better games, better free games for PSN plus every month

That's subjective. Personally I prefer more XB1 exclusive games than PS4 exclusive games. You can't just say one has better games.

The general consensus around the internet is that the PS+ instant game collection games for the PS4 has been a massive letdown, especially when compared to the Games with Gold who have been giving out pretty awesome games, and more that are playable on the XB1 since you get 2 XB1 games and 2 Backwards Compatible 360 games every month.

        • I have both consoles and the PS monthly offering is trash! Xbox One games with gold offers much better games. And the backwards compatible games are great! I got Halo: Reach out of a free month and I play the crap out of that game. Got GoW games out of it as well. :D

  • +3

    isnt the BigW better deal?

    • -1

Yes it is but i think its now expired. I picked one up yesterday.

  • PS4 or Xbox One S 500gb?

    • PS4

    • Well, that depends, do you prefer apples or oranges?

      • Apples on Fridays and every second Tuesday. Oranges every other day except for public holidays on which I prefer kiwi fruit

        • +1

Kiwi fruit is overrated anyway, I have to eat three just to satisfy my hunger.

    • The Xbox One S (2TB) has some advantages over PS4:

      • Slightly smaller, quiter, and uses a bit less power
      • Xbox Live is still bigger than PSN
      • The controller is better, there's also the elite. The DS4's lightbar is frustrating, and the touchpad never utilised.
      • Xbox One's interface feels more fleshed out, and more fluid/less steps for doing stuff
      • The pervy Kinect is there for you to jump around crazy in your living room (better than PS Eye)

      • Xbox One exclusives
(Rise of Tomb Raider, Quantum Break, Forza, Sunset Overdrive)
(Cuphead, ReCore, Crackdown 3, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct)
(Sea of Thieves, Titanfall, Halo, Gears of War, Ashen, Below, Inside, Gigantic)

      • Xbox has backwards compatibility with X360 discs/digital downloads

(With that all said, this was the console that Microsoft needed to release. It's no wonder the PS4 outdid it by 2:1)
(Besides a lot of the compelling exclusives for the PS4 didn't even arrive until much later after its release)
(The PS4K and Xbox Scorpio will change these around, probably in Microsoft's favour, but PS VR is hard to ignore and could be the gamechanger)

      • You're comparing a newly released console to a console that is three years old, perhaps if the Xbox One S was what the released at the same time as the PS4, perhaps then they could be comparable.

        • +1

Well its still comparable now, they are after all, direct competing products.
What I mean is that the Xbox One initially had the better games and exclusives than the PS4 (Knack, wtf) but the console itself was quite a downer, and the Xbox One S fixes that.

Had Microsoft pushed out the Xbox One S, instead of the Xbox One, initially (and yes, they could've, the technology was there)…
… well in that case its quite possible that Microsoft could've had upto 50 Million units sold by now.
(instead they're playing second fiddle with ~20 Million sales, and possibly dwindling to PS4/Steam competitors)

        • @Kangal:

Of course, obviously a newly released console will have advantages over older consoles, it wouldn't be new it it didn't.

        • @tranqme:
What I was trying to say is that Microsoft:
          - believed the Xbox 360 defeated the PS3 last gen
          - believed the Xbox One therefore would be seen as more desirable/luxurious
          - hence they justified a higher price by their standards, and not a consumers standards
          - the controller is great, but lacks built-in battery and a headset pass-through
          - they used proprietary components instead of industry standards (eg Bluetooth)
          - went out of their way to implement new DRM systems to bully the game industry into building a walled garden
          - tried to spy on users, like Windows 10, to gather data to sell for advertising (ie Google-esque)
          - attempted to make the Xbox into a settop box, despite many TV deals not going down
          - chose components that were much cheaper
          - designed the Xbox One much more conservatively, and not a high-end machine
          - they could've implemented backwards compatibility but they put it on the afterburner
          - they instead focused on Kinect, which no-one likes

The Xbox One S (2TB) is getting launched on 2 Aug 2016, but it could've been launched on 22 Nov 2013.
It took Microsoft 3 years to learn their lesson.
With that all said and done, I'm not happy about SONY and the PS4 either.
It came way underpowered, and had none of the awesome "console seller" exclusive titles. It took another 2-3 years for it to be a viable upgrade over the last gen systems. And not to mention the useless touchpad, lightbar, lack of HDR, HEVC, HDMI 2.0, CD playback, Lack dual 5GHz Wifi etc etc.

It's not that the PS4 was better than the Xbox One at launch, its that it had less crap.
Now the tide is turning over for PS VR, PS4K, Xbox One S, and Project Scorpio… so peasants like me will spectate

      • I got a chuckle out of this. You say the DS4 touchpad is never utilised, but to use the Kinect on an XBox One S you need a special adaptor. That's how utilised the Kinect is.

As for exclusives, Tomb Raider is coming to PS4 soon. And it definitely comes down to personal preference, but so many of those exclusives are looking worse every time they're shown. Especially Gears, Cuphead and ReCore. Gears of War looked super generic at E3. Cuphead looks amazing graphically but the gameplay looks really ordinary. ReCore just looks straight up B-tier.

Again, it's totally personal preference, but Uncharted's production values are on another level to Tomb Raider, Detroit Become Human looks like it is going to be even better than Heavy Rain, and Horizon Zero Dawn looks… well just look at it.
Then there's the Last Guardian, No Man's Sky, God of War, Death Stranding, Spiderman, Day's Gone, Hellblade…

Having said all that, I do hope XBox is successful because competition is great :)

        • +1

          Lol no worries.
I do have a PS4, and trust me the touchpad is never utilised.
The best thing the touchpad is good for, is when you connect the DS4 to a PC, and use the touchpad for a mouse. It makes navigating Windows easier from the couch.

Kinect is only utilised for the "Hey Xbox/Hey Cortana" voice assist thingy.
And its used for Kinect games, not that any are good.
With that all said, I wouldn't purchase a Kinect separately if I had an Xbox.

I agree with Gears of War/Halo, I'm not into those kind of games (which is why I put them in the end).
ReCore looks good for me. Cuphead I would buy nonetheless, if I could that is.

The PS4's games were quite lacking initially.
But yes, finally, there are some awesome exclusives to get in the form of:

Uncharted, TLOU, Infamous, Until Dawn, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War,
Day's Gone, Death Stranding, Detroit become Human, Spiderman,
Tearaway, Crash Bandicoot, Hawken, Order 1886, Last Guardian, Injustice,
Bloodborne, Hellblade, No Man's Sky, Wild

Another exclusive I forgot to mention: We Happy Few, coming out for Xbox only soon.
The Xbox is suddenly getting better than the PS4.
However, the PS4 now has all these great exclusive games, making it more redundant to get an Xbox.
Meanwhile, Nintendo looks set to release a new console that's weaker than the Xbox One… so not only will new games look outdated on it, it means we won't see AAA titles come over to it. Just like the repeat of the Gamecube/Wii/Wii U.

Summing up: It's becoming more and more compelling to get on the Steam/PC Game bandwagon.

    • +1

      Screw it! I'll have both!

  • +3

Great price but no time to play haha

  • +7

Having just had to return my 500GB PS4 to Sony because of a hardware failure I would ask the EB store rep what model the PS4 is. If these consoles are anything other than CUH-12XX (XX = any 2 numbers) then I would be wary of buying. There is a known hardware issue with CUH-11XX consoles manufactured in 2015 which can render the console useless for anything other than an expensive netflix/Stan box.

It takes 10 secs to check the model on the box at purchase. Demand a CUH-12XX console and save yourself possible future frustration.

  • +9

SO glad they're giving away two controllers with this bundle; now I'll finally be able to play 2 player Stan.

    • Split screen?

      • Which is barely existent

  • +4

Just sharing as there may be a number of people encouraged, like me, to try consoles while they become cheaper these days. Most of you know what to anticipate and I'm not after a platform war. It's more about "what went wrong (with my expectations)" question.
I've bought PS4 recently and I am somewhat disappointed. Over 20+ years, I've been occasionally playing on my friends' PS systems (I used to own a PS Portable only), moderately on computers, and on smartphones. I admit it's subjective me feeling there are not many games that I'm excited about or that graphics aren't bad but not stunning either.
But the system has surprisingly inconvenient menus and controls, only a few useful apps, paid multiplayer over network for most of the games and, the worst, extremely low number of titles you can play on a split screen. Also, I don't understand the UX/UI and the low quality of trailers in PS Store. Am I just used to the fancy computer games? I can see it all tends toward subscription model and/or that (FPP/TPP) cinematic experience, but atm I play not what I want and fully enjoy, but what's actually available, the restricted way I can actually.
Not entirely sure yet, but I feel I'd be better off with a 10yo PS3.

    • Great post, and I have a few questions for you and others.

I'm in my late 20's, haven't owned a console since my PS2 (and before that N64, SNES etc) as I just haven't had the time. Whilst I'm still a little bit time poor I'm heavily considering buying a PS4 now the prices have come down for some very casual gaming. I've got no idea about games these days, I really just want to play FIFA and maybe a few other fun multiplayer games with my housemates (I am not even sure how many people multiplayer can support on PS4).

Would you say that the PS4 isn't really worth it for casual players like myself?

      • Not entirely sure, but apparently PS4 supports up to four DS4 locally and (EA) sport games support it. Over network, FIFA or F1 is up for 22 players. But that's almost it, you won't enjoy NFS or GT sitting on the couch with mates.

And your situation might be similar to mine - after I've been wooed many times by what the succeeding generations had to offer, after all the fun experiences playing with friends in the past, my expectations might be high. Or it's just different now - you get that ultra-hi-tech gear but the use is limited and implementation is a bit disappointing.

Speaking of multiple DS4 - WTF is wrong with that player-pad association? I hooked up a second pad, added a new "guest" player and I couldn't figure it out when it kept on switching roles/player-to-pad ties. Damn, either I'm old or it's just a (not promising) beginning.

      • +2

Get a Ps3. Even cheaper and Fifa is essentially the same.

      • +1

get PES and you will feel the difference between PS3 and PS4. Otherwise, stick with your PS3 since FIFA is the same

  • Anyone considering this should be aware that there is a new, more powerful model PS4 releasing relatively soon, and should take that into consideration. I'd be all over this deal if I didn't know about the PS4 Neo, but as it is I'm not wasting my money on this when it will be outdated within 6 months most likely. These sales are most likely to clear stock because of the Neo's impending announcement.

    • ps4 neo should be launching next year, I'm wondering if there is a ps4 slim at $399 this year?

    • It's already been mentioned in every PS4 deal posted on OzBargain (including this one), and while this may be correct in the future, it certainly hasn't been confirmed that it's being released soon.

      So please, stop spreading rubbish.

      • +1

Rubbish? Sony have confirmed its existence, and developers have been told that all games releasing after September need to support Neo. PSVR also releases this year, and the Neo will do VR much better than the original Ps4, so everything points to a 2016 release.

"Soon" to me is 6-12 months when we're talking about buying a $400 console that will be out of date in that time.

        • Sure, it could be released this year, and if it does, I highly doubt it will make the current console out of date.

At the end of the day, it's your decision if you want to wait for a particular release, just like it was mine to purchase a PS4 last week, but don't misinform others because you think a purchase is a bad idea.

        • @tranqme:

I highly doubt it will make the current console out of date.

How wouldn't it? It has over 2x the processing power. It'll play games much better and they'll look much better than they do on the normal PS4. It's not like the Xbox One S where it's just smaller and does 4K output - it's a much better new GPU, faster RAM, and a higher clocked CPU.

but don't misinform others because you think a purchase is a bad idea.

I didn't misinform others, I was informing them that there is a new, updated PS4 with better hardware that will play games significantly better with significantly better graphics, and it is rumoured to release in the next 6 months, and is definitely releasing within the next 12 months. To not inform them would be the wrong thing to do.

        • @MrFunSocks:

          How wouldn't it?

The same reason why people are still buying and using PS3 consoles, three years after the PS4 was released.

          I didn't misinform others

Yes you did, you said that buying a PS4 would be 'wasting money' because a newer, better console might be released by the end of the year, and that instead of buying this useless console now, they could possible wait up to 12 months for the newer console.

        • @tranqme:

The same reason why people are still buying and using PS3 consoles, three years after the PS4 was released.

That's fine, but they're still "out of date".

Yes you did, you said that buying a PS4 would be 'wasting money'

Not quite. My exact words were:

Anyone considering this should be aware that there is a new, more powerful model PS4 releasing relatively soon, and should take that into consideration.

I said that I'm not wasting my money on it, not that buying a PS4 is a waste of money.

It's better to make an informed decision when buying. I don't see any problem with that. I'd be pretty cranky if I bought a console and noone told me that the replacement for that console was releasing potentially within 6 months.

        • @MrFunSocks:

That's fine, but they're still "out of date".

          Says who?

Not quite. My exact words were: Anyone considering this should be aware that there is a new, more powerful model PS4 releasing relatively soon, and should take that into consideration.

Great, thanks for reminding people to use common sense when purchasing goods and services.

I said that I'm not wasting my money on it, not that buying a PS4 is a waste of money.

Your allegations are still incorrect and unwarranted, hence my reply stating not to spread rubbish.

        • @tranqme:

          Says who?

Says the fact that it's replacement has been out for 3 years lol.

Great, thanks for reminding people to use common sense when purchasing goods and services.

It's not common sense if they don't read video game forums and therefor don't know about the Neo.

          Your allegations

WTF? lol "allegations"? There is a new PS4 coming out and we know it will release within the next 12 months, probably 6 according to all the rumours. I'm not "alleging" anything lol.

        • @MrFunSocks:

Says the fact that it's replacement has been out for 3 years lol.

Cool, but we both know what you really meant by it being 'out of date'.

WTF? lol "allegations"? There is a new PS4 coming out and we know it will release within the next 12 months, probably 6 according to all the rumours. I'm not "alleging" anything lol.

Right, so based off rumours, everyone should just wait because if those rumours are true, the current console will be essentially useless and a waste of money.

          Logic.

        • @tranqme:

Cool, but we both know what you really meant by it being 'out of date'.

I have no idea what you think I mean, but I mean that it's out of date in terms of it being a console that has a successor.

Right, so based off rumours, everyone should just wait because if those rumours are true, the current console will be essentially useless and a waste of money.

The PS4 Neo is not a rumour. Sony have confirmed it exists. It will be releasing in the next 12 months. Rumours say it will release in the next 6.

        • @MrFunSocks:

I have no idea what you think I mean, but I mean that it's out of date in terms of it being a console that has a successor.

Again, saying something is out of date just because it may have a successor in the next 12 months is just ridiculous.

The PS4 Neo is not a rumour. Sony have confirmed it exists. It will be releasing in the next 12 months. Rumours say it will release in the next 6.

I was referring to the rumours of it's release date.

        • @tranqme: Sony just announced an event for September 7, which was leaked a few days ago as the exact date that the Neo would be announced.

          http://www.cnet.com/au/news/ps4-neo-expected-as-sony-makes-s…

Still think that telling people to consider holding off was the wrong thing to do?

        • @MrFunSocks:

Still think that telling people to consider holding off was the wrong thing to do?

Yes, as this was still just a rumour at the time, I don't think it's anyone's place to tell others to wait based on speculation alone.

        • @tranqme: I remember thinking it was def coming out this year to coincide with VR months ago. Was probs the loudest rumour I've heard for a long time

    • More powerful

Console isn't PC. You cannot do much about major hardware.

      • The Ps4 Neo has over double the processing power, it has an all new GPU. It's not just a "slim" version.

    • And Sony being Sony (in Australia) will sell the NEW PS4 at TOP DOLLAR for at least 6 to 8 months,

then drop the price a little leading into Christmas

(depending how the landscape looks during the year - Xbox units / PSVR etc )

  • all my friends said 500GB is not enough :/….
Should I just wait for 1TB deal?

    • I have the 500GB model and it's enough for me.

    • depends, 500gb is more than enough for me. Usually i only install 2-3 games . If you have a lot of games, and want to install all of them on the hard drive, then you will need 1tb or more

if you finish game one by one, then 500gb is more than enough.

one games is around 30~100gb on the drive, i suppose.

  • I don't understand why there aren't more console deals work an extra controller instead of same game that I don't want that i can buy for $20 in a months time. Also don't under stand why a separate controller cost a almost a quarter of the cost of the console itself. They must make a killing on controllers

    • yeah that's how they make their money - accessories

      extra controller - $70
vertical stand - $30 (just a piece of plastic)
      face plate - $30
      eye camera - $90
      headset - $100
      charging station - $40
      PlayTV - $50
      DS charging station - $40
Blu Ray remote - not sure, probably $50?

as you can see, even if you only buys half the things listed above, it quickly adds up to be close to/more then the price of the console itself……….

probably the main reason I have not yet moved to PS4, as all of my PS3 accessories will be useless……….
