    • thanks, updating post

  • That's a great deal. I bought a twin pack from wiggles several months ago for $110 and that was by far the best I could find then.

    • Agree, awesome price for UK store.

Does these $87 tyre allows cyclist to make Vrom Vrom sound?

    • +10

They do, however a psychiatric evaluation is still recommended for any cyclist making "Vroom Vroom" sounds.

  • -1

Wow… price of a car tyre for a bicycle. :)

    • $88 for 2 car tyres?

      • +3

        Not unheard of.

    • You can get this size bike tyres for $15/ ea but these are kinda top of the range so not really apples with apples…

        • +2

Most people who ride road bikes buy a tyre in this price range.
I don't use anything but these

          @Mattwilko:
I suppose that is how they justify the price because people are willing to pay such outrageous price for a bike tyre. I've ridden road bikes and did so for the best part of 5 years nearly daily but would never fork out that for a road tyre. Having a look at these tyres specifically and the fact that they have a poor side wall imo I wouldn't even consider these even if the price was good.

        • @Stringr: Side wall? I've ridden a set of these for nearly 3000 kms and only replaced them because I was 'flat spotting' the rear and wanted to try tubeless tyres instead. These are great tyres with low rolling resistance. I would be more concerned with rolling resistance than sidewalls but my focus is going faster, not long life/durability.

        • @Stringr:

They are one of the best compromises on the market, they roll surprisingly well whilst are still quite puncture resistant like gatorskins.
I'm sure your 5 years of riding is more knowledge than working in a bike shop though…..

    • If you want to equate this to cars, these are like the Pirelli P-Zero of bike tyres. Expensive but with a high performance compound that reduces rolling resistance for better performance at the expense of some longer life and normally price!

And pay in pounds if you have the 28degrees card

Now they'll be harder to knock off the road..

    /sarcasm

  • How do these compare to the Schwalbe Marathon Plus?

    • +3

These are a lighter, faster tyre than the Marathon Plus. They are one of the best compromises between speed and puncture resistance. Many peoples favorite. Their only downside is the sidewalls are quite thin and easily damaged so not a great choice if you ride on dirt roads. The 28 actually measures a bit larger on most rims which is unusual for Continental

      • Can confirm. I've run these tyres for a while, no rolling surface punctures but one through the sidewall.

      • Sounds like a good choice for those who stay on the tarmac. I'll stick with the Marathon Plus since I ride on dirt every day.

      • yea the 28 only gives me 3mm clearance on the back but so comfy.

  • Great price, have been running the 25mm for 18 months.
As others have stated, the sidewalls on this version are very thin, no way as good as the previous 4000s.
Great rolling resistance, long wearing and grippy in the dry and good in the wet.

You can used the probikekit voucher BACK1 to gain an extra 12% off on your purchase up to $40. I looked at this deal this morning, and then got the email saying that they missed me and sent me the code!

    Hope this helps!

Brings the price down to $78.75 for two of these, delivered.

Price in the LBS yesterday was $89.99 for a single.

    • Seems to be not working for me. Getting the following message.

The discount code you entered is invalid or not applicable to the contents of your basket.

I am a existing customer who hasn't purchased from PBK for a while.

You'll need to click thorough on the email link (if you got one) otherwise the code won't work.

    Bought the 25's, thanks.

  • Few pairs of shoes in the $50-$80 that looks ok too :)

Just a heads up, their delivery can take up to 4 weeks…
    Quite embarassing compared to Wiggle…

    • It can be slow, but my last order took less than two weeks (placed Monday morning, arrived following Thursday).

The code ITK10 is sometimes good for a further 10% off. For those above that think this is outrageous for a bike tyre, these are not your average bikepath cruiser tyres. Below around 30Km/hr - ish the biggest resistance you are pushing against is 'rolling resistance' the friction between your tyres and the road. One of the factors affecting rolling resistance is the compound used in the tyres. These seem to get great reviews for low rolling resistance, less resistance = less effort to maintain the same speed. Of course once you go faster aerodynamics become more important and then it is all about reducing your drag coefficient. If you use your bike for a cruise along the bike path with the kids or a roll along the yarra to work of a morning these are expensive, get yourself something cheaper. If you regularly ride longer distances (100km+ in a day) or you race (and ride on clinchers rather than tubs) these are certainly worth the bit extra in my humble opinion.

Set region to UK, currency to AUD and enter code "FIRSTUK" for 10% off (note: you need to create an account first and log in). Got a pair of 25s for $80.50 odd.

    • Cant seem to get this working. Are you using the UK or AU site?

      • Apologies calcium, I was on the UK site, on my phone and selected "Australia" as the country of delivery.

        • I just tried this but it said ~$8 for postage on the UK site, so not really any saving.

        • @scottyheist: Strange… Definitely got free postage last night. Sorry gents :(

        • dupe.

        • Cant seem to get this to work. Maybe cos it is not my first order.

VC100PBK seems to work for me though but need to spend 100 pounds to get 12 off.

Need to be on the UK site though.

Got the tyres and a Gabba.

  • Great tyres, i've had the 25's on for about 3000kms and haven't had one flat yet.

  • should i get 23s or 25s?

  • Watch these guys.
