        • @Rakddon:

just to clarify the $30 international connect pack here:
          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/cal…

          which includes:
Every month added to your existing eligible mobile plan. Includes $150 worth of talk and text

To any standard international numbers from Australia

          Rates
          50c per SMS message
          75c per MMS message

          was included for $0, so i'm paying $50 /month not $80 /month

        • @eltito:

Interesting when I tried to get the $50 for 15GB or mentioned the $40 I was told the below, they're catching on so be quick to try and get the switch done I think :)

@Curkz: I just referenced a 'friend' who had got them to match optus' offer and two hours later I have managed 15gb on the $70 casual (not month to month) plan with a $20 discount so ill only pay $50 a month. Thanks captain smash!

        • @gr33nhouse:

Mine is now $40 for 15GB on 12mnth plan with unlimited calls and text + $30 international connect pack.

somehow managed to convince them :)
          Happy Days…

        • @gr33nhouse:

I'm having no luck best I seem to be getting is a 12 month contract for $50 per month with 13GB

        • @Captain Smash, I ran out of luck after speaking to 3 retention operators. Would you mind sending me a PM please? Much much appreciated!!!

        • @Rakddon: yeah i couldn't get your great deal by a long shot! No chance of the international pack (not that I'd ever use it but you know…ozbargain) and they claimed that I only got the deal because of my loyalty. To be fair it'd be a hard sell convincing them to better the optus deal when it was hard enough to get something similar!

        • @Curkz: To be honest that was all I wanted. The extra 2gb and month to month was a bonus.

Just keep trying? Most of the people i spoke to were only offering 10gb. Its only after many calls and chats that i got what i got.

        • +2

          @gr33nhouse:

Managed to get 13.5GB yesterday for $50 on a 12 month contract yesterday 😊

        • @Rakddon:
Jumped on the phone, and I was only able to get them to $50/month for 10gb. They're claiming that it's impossible to throw in the international connect pack and that their "system won't allow it". However, he did offer the $50 for 10gb with no 12 month contract, so I'm free to walk anytime.

Any thoughts from OzBargainers on whether this is a good deal?

        • @L1ndros88:

get at least 13GB, otherwise make a complaint and when they call u back and negotiate then.

        • +1

Thank you! After much haggling with the Retention team (after going through Live Chat) I managed to get the BYO $50/13GB plan - suuwheeeet! Don't need/didn't ask about international or Apple Music.

        • +1

Mate you just saved my sister $120 a month!!! You're a bloody national treasure!

        • +1

Thanks smash! It took me 3-4 attempts with live chat but I finally managed to get the same deal, except on a month-to-month plan instead of a 12 month plan! The trick is to get referred to the disconnections/retentions team straight away. Each time I spoke to someone new they added more data, more discounts, etc.

  • +1

I'm a bit uncertain about how unadvertised this plan is if it's the top thing on the front page of Ozb. Seems pretty bloody advertised to me now.

  • +4

Damn, tempting to recontract/change to this. Currently on the $40/10GB deal down to $36 with student discount.

  • Anyone jump on this deal as a current customer ??

  • +1

Be careful if you try to upgrade your existing plan through live chat. They promised and confirmed everything in the online chat. When the next bill come, I find that plan was not changed and i got charged $20 for extra data over the old plan. Talked to optus again and they said there is record i chatted to the rep, but they don't store the chat details and there is no note or record from the rep saying plan any change !! And unidays discount is hopeless, most people will notice from their first bill that no student discount has ever been registered.

    • +4

Lesson learned. That's why it's best to save or email the chat transcript.

      • +1 always - and ask for a reference number :)

    • +1

same thing happened to me! checked a few days before bill was due and saw discount wasn't applied.
lucky i had screenshots off the chat and they raised a 'marketing escalation' and applied discount for me

  • Curious when is this offer available until?

  • +1

Is the free epl still available?

Tomorrow galaxy note 7 is available for preorder.

    • +1

Should be eligible if you register before the 22nd of August according to the banner on their website (www.optus.com.au)

  • Optus have an unadvertised offer for new customers only

This is a promotional plan and only available to new and recontracting customers.?

You need to chat with the team on their website to get it.

    don't forget 10% off with unidays :)

    • You can provide that unidays code to the "chat team", or you can enter it online yourself, either way, you will find out soon the student discount is not applied.

      • you've tried with this plan?

never been an issue before with others - always applied or keep evidence to rectify :)

        • Not sure how many "others" you are referring to, but the "supervisor" from the live chat team told me this code has to be input MANUALLY by one of the "AUTHORIZED REP". Most of the rep never go through the trouble to actually input this, and just entered in the web order yourself won't get this automatically applied. This is the official answer.

        • @coprocessor8087:
I applied the uni days discount and got it for $45 for 15GB. Pretty sweet! I made sure I got proof that he said that I have his word and I'm guaranteed the discount. Printed the chat log for proof. Tangible proof incase I don't get the discount.

        • @josephkim0129: Hopefully you will see the discount in your first bill. As I said, they can promise and confirm everything during the chat. If the discount is not there, don't be surprised you have to contact them and chase up.

I am a current customer on a month to month plan, so my bargaining position is a bit better than someone on a contract. However they are honouring it because of the misleading CIS (the document in the link), and they're saying they are doing it only as an exception. I also said to them I could technically just cancel my account and rejoin on the new plan… If anyone is looking to argue this one you should act fast, they said they're working on updating their CIS to reflect new customers only.

    • AHHHHH I wish i read this before I wasted half an hour on the phone, spoke to the retention department, the specialty department, sales and Customer service. Are you sure they will honor it because the end result was that the 'system' will not allow it to be processed because it has to be a new number not already with optus

      • Yeah sorry mate. Always go for the online chat. Less stress and you don't feel like you wasted time if you don't get anywhere. I expect after myself and I'm sure a few others got through on it they changed that CIS.

    • What?!?! I'm in the same position and it didn't work for me.

Edit: they already changed the CIS

  • Has it been updated already the pdf states?
"This is a promotional plan and only available to new services only."

    • Seems so.

  • For those who say 15GB is heaps, do you hotspot it at home too? I find 10 is not enough for me atm, only if I blog at work (I edit pics online, then upload again to the blog) and that's with all videos and gifs blocked.

  • I just ordered mine. I hope I see a lil difference on the speed. I've the slowest internet on the train between Caulfied and South Yarra.I live in South East Melbourne. I'm currently with Vodafone the 4G speed I get
    Download: 69.57 Mb
    Upload: 8.29 Mb
Tested on my brother's phone who's with Virgin Mobbile.
    Download: 77.48 Mb
    Upload: 27.50 Mb

  • Thank you!!! I used this to re-negotiate my contract with Virgin Mobile. Now from $60 monthly plan on a $50 plan, where my data has increased from 2.3gb(which I was really struggling with) to 11gb! :)

    • What plan were you with and how long did you have left? Didn't know that you can amend current contract.

      • +1

Basically paid out my handset figure (which they partially waved for me - full price is $41.50 x 4 ). I had 4 months left.

And then I took on a sim only plan with them (which has no contract). $50 per month. So I've now saved $40 over all over the next 4 months.

Additionally - if you stay on a sim only plan for 6 months, 2 of those bills are free. So I'm really paying for 4 months - saving another $100

All together - handset payout figure was $124.50. I'm going to be $140.00 cashflow positive from this. Net effect: $15.50 saving, & also now on a 11gb and unlimited call plan.

Was on voda 60$ Plan with 12gb month to month.

Called up the team and got passed on to another team and got a pricematch, so they offered me the 80 plan discounted to 50 and 15gb.

Just saved $120 for the next 12 months and I still get to keep the $5/day roaming and international minutes. Thanks OP!

    • did tried, they won't let me. when did you upgrade? thx

      • right before I posted the comment. I'm not sure if the fact that I was on a business plan helped, but i would imagine it's the same as the normal plan. Maybe try again with a different operator?

    • +1

Fantastic. Voda with the $5 international roaming is really a great deal. Now you have 15 gig to use overseas.

    • How did you manage this? Are you still on a month to month plan?

      • +1

no, unfortunately had to sign the 12 mths contract but that's not a biggie. I can upgrade my phone/plan after 3 months apparently.

Trading off month to month to 12 months contract in this instance made sense, I save 10/month and have no intention to upgrade my phone anytime soon..

      • +1

all i did was request for callback from their website, and then when they spoke to me I asked to speak to someone to discuss changing my plan as I was offered a good plan from Optus. The first guy didn't offer me anything other than the ones on the website, so he transferred me to another guy (sounded local) and he sorted me out. Wanted me to send him a link to the PDF but he found it online before I managed to do that, so he spoke to his superior and offered me the deal.

Tip: play nice with them? The did admit the Optus plan is quite generous.

        • YMMV. I had no luck either online chat or callback.

They can't even offer me the deal which expired a few days ago.

Looks like I'll be waiting to see whether they create a new deal to compete with Optus. Or I'll just go with this deal before it expires.

        • +1

@Abaddon: I'd just go with Optus but I really like the $5 roaming.

        • @chanraymond: Yeah, I'm just disappointed with their coverage on the central coast to Sydney rail line.

My mate is sitting next to me with coverage most of the way, and mine works about 30% of the time.

  • Anyone know if data sharing is available for this plan?

    • also want to know

  • +1

Gotta admit that this is a good plan. The last time I saw something like this, was when Vodafone offered the $45 per month plan with 12gb of data and unlimited calls within aus and unlimited calls to 10 countries.

with my $10 loyalty credit, and 1gb add on internet, $35/month for 24 months for 13gb! No way I am letting vodafone take this away from me. I havent seen a good plan with so much data since then

  • +3

Thanks, just got Vodafone to price match as my 2yr contract was about to end.

    $50 a month for 12mths
    Unlimited calls in Aus
1000 minutes to top 12 countries
300 minutes to a long list of other countries
Bonus 5gb on top for this month (and maybe next can't remember exactly)

Just tell them to go to optus.com.au and select critical information summaries down the bottom. It's listed under post paid as '$50 My Plan Plus 12M SIM Only (Aug 15GB)'.

    • I did one too. but have to pay out the old contract (1 month left eventhough!).

    • Just swapped my other Amaysim 7gb prepaid service to the $50 15gb Optus deal and confirmed I will also get the $20 discount with my current 50gb Home Wireless Broadband month to month service :)

    • Should be the same as mine, so they should have offered you the 80 plan for 50 (30 discount), and instead of getting 10gb as per their website you should be getting additional 5gb for 12 mths to make it 15gb.

    • I had no luck, possibly because I'm not currently a customer of theirs. I was told that Vodafone don't price match.

      • Did you get past the first level overseas support that just reads a script? Once i got transferred to the local retention team they straight away knew i wanted a price match.

        • I don't believe so.

        • @Abaddon:

It is really difficult to have 1 word answer for this kind of situation.

first caller picked up said no price match, then I said I will leave vodafone after my contract ends, somehow she directed me to another caller (retention team i assume), then i mentioned the optus offer and they checked (took a long while as they couldn't find, guess be patient here), then when they found it, they priced match.

I was supposed to pay out my 1 month contract (terminating it 1 month early) + handset balance, but was given opportunity to jump on to the price matched together with my remaining handset instead.

          so now i have 12 months 80 plan (80-30 =$50) per month + previous plan's handset balance to pay (m to m).

  • This is tempting but…I will stick with Prepaid.

    • What is the closest best deal on prepaid? 15GB is a lot of data. Especially if you have a streaming TV service like Netflix, FetchTV or Foxtel.

Also if this included unlimited Netflix viewing I would be all over it.

      • Do any Australian mobile services include unlimited Netflix?

  • Man nkt long ago i aigned up for the 11gb per month deal but i have always been with optus so no a new customer…. great deal

  • 12 month contract only…….

Would switch to this if was month to month.

  • So i went from $40 a month with 10gb on optus that included $10 off with bundle discount to this deal giving me $20 off my mbn service, not to shabby top deal op.

Just curious how did you get the offer?

    • How did you go about organising this? I'm in the same position…

    • Interested to know, too… Please.

  • Too bad you can't spend the credit on the Google Play store.

Using an Android Telstra works out better for me, since Google Play Music / Netflix & Apps will need to be paid for anyway.

  • Hi Guys,

If You have an ABN Number .

You can get 2 Months Free. Please feel free to Contact me .

    Can organise that for you.

    Only for New Customers
    Thanks

    • business account?

      • Yes .. Basically you have to have ABN or ACN.

        Thaks

        • What if you have ABN as well as being a student?

  • I'm coming out of contract in a week too!

Should I wait for the 7 and bundle a plan with it though. Hrmmm

  • Think I'm going to wait and see what counter offers virgin come up with.
Only want a month to month sim only though.
Data rollover in virgin is a handy

  • Told Telstra about this deal via Livechat, and they countered with Unlimited Talk and Text with 11.5GB of data for $50 on a 12 month plan.

  • Scared to take the plunge as not sure how well the Optus coverage / speeds are in Adelaide - I travel around a bit as a consultant so buying a SIM and testing isn't necessarily an option - anyone able to confirm decent speeds / access in and around the Adelaide CBD areas and a bit north & south of the area?

  • So I've signed up (new customer). It took a really long time to do so, I assume they were busy. Still waiting for the conformation email though, so I honestly have no idea if it has gone through or not. Great deal, but terrible customer service!

  • What is the quickest, pain free way to become a new customer? I'm on a month to month.

    • Port to Telstra or Vodafone prepaid with a $2 sim.

  • Mine went like this.
    Live chat.
me— Hi I'm on $2 days at the moment i'm going through about 16gb per month, it's kinda getting expensive are there any other options.
Them—- We can sign you up to 15gb data, unlimited calls, ect for $50 per month 12 month plan.
    Me— That sound great.
    JOB DONE.
Then Me— If I get my partner to swap over to same plan on same bill can you do a better deal.
Them— Can't do better price but can give an extra 5gb on the second account.

Word of warning if your live chatting then go to sign up and your using your optus account when signing up.
You could loose live chat in the sign up process.

I guess it's going to depend who you get on live chat.

  • No dice for existing contract. Talked to them on live chat. On 12 month contract $40/10GB.

  • was it just me that was certain that it included unlimited 10 countries but cannot see it now?

  • Signed the Mrs up to the Optus plan

  • awesome!

  • after first attempt at getting them to match the offer in telstra live chat was getting nowhere… i tried another approach in asking them when my contract ends as I want to cancel… after which they're obliged to ask what the reason is… <insert better offer> and then magic they reveal their hidden cards/offers… i managed to only get the standard $50 for 13GB but anything is better than my current $100 plan…

  • does anyone have the link to Optus Live Chat

  • Wow this process is annoying, trying to get Telstra to budge.
