    If you travel alot its better to ignore the code as you will not earn any hotel rewards(almost %10 cashback for future stays).

    • Agree that this is something to consdier but the current offer is 12% dscount (if you can get a booking of your choice at exactly A$250) and an instant, rather than deferred, savings. Having said that, I believe it's at best a 50/50 chance that this particular offer will work out to be more favorable, given the $250 spend condition.

      • Generally, on non-chain hotels where coupons are usable, CheapTickets gives the best price (even after Cashrewards). They're both owned by Expedia as well, so the service levels are much the same.

        On chain hotels where you can't use coupons.. Hotels.com is usually the best since you can stack Cashrewards on top of Welcome Rewards.

        • sorry, what do you mean by welcome rewards ?

        • @spk: Once you stay 10 nights they will give you one night for free to use with, eg; if you stayed 10 nights with a total value of $1000 they will give you one free nights worth up to $100 and if the price is higher you pay the difference.

        • @Bnjam3:

          Just note that the free night value is based on the ex-tax value of the hotel bookings. And when you use the free reward night, its only usable on the ex-tax portion as well.

        • @Thrawn: True. Just to stop myself from going crazy, I use a figure of 7% of the total price for my calculations/comparisons.

        Hotels.com is not the cheapest all the time but i always book through them and then ask for price match so i can earn hotels reward + generous cash back from cashreward (They will refund you the difference.).

        • Good tips. Just curious, do they honour it (the price match) when a coupon is applied/pffered on another site? I don't want to put in all the efforts but then being told that they won't "match" as they already have this "free night" reward scheme, etc.

          Thank you for your advice in advance

          @Gleung: They will ask you to submit a picture of the other website showing the price and showing the same room and same condition, just hide the coupon box from the picture and most likely you will get away with it.The main issue that i keep facing is either free breakfast or free cancellation. You must get the same room with exact condition for them to price match, if you booked a room without cancellation or without breakfast but the other website have the room with free breakfast and free cancellation and cheaper hotels.com will not price match it. I normally use hotelscombined to get cheapest prices then i just book from hotels directly to get cashrewards and hotels rewards. I have also heard that expedia will give you $50 voucher if you found any cheaper prices(Which you rarely can), but i guess the coupon will come with very long list of excluded hotels and harsh T&C.

          @Gleung:
          Thanks again to Bnjam3's advice. I think I am obliged to share my experience.

          I managed to get a price match after >30 mins on the phone with Hotels.com. I did not use the Request for Price Match online submission, which requires a booking rerference number, as I was not comfortable to pay and book before knowing for certain that the price will get matched. Instead I called the Australian (Sydney) number listed to talk to a CS Officer.

          I learnt through the process that:

          1. Hotels.com honours publicly available (available on the alternate booking sites webpage) but not targted discount offers, e.g. emails to individuals;
          2. Hotels reward (free night stay credits) still available - got that confirmed on the booking confirmation;
          3. Hotels.com will charge the full price (in my case in US$ as quoted by Cheaptickets) but will issue a credit on the applicable discount (yet to be received but was promised that would show up on my credit card account within 5 working days)

          So far, it is quite a good deal, despite having to spend >30 mins (perhaps 40 mins) on the phone, incuding the time spent on completing the booking. Only thing missing is the cash rebate that may be available through cashrewards.

          Hope the above information will be useful to fellow Ozbargainers.

  • Sorry but just had a really bad experience with hotels.com booking.. one of the highlights of my booking was "free breakfast for 2".

    At hotel, they said "Free breakfast" equals to $20 credit that amounted to 2 cups of coffee..

  • not really that good a deal, the prices are $35 more expensive than hotelscombined listings before $30 off applied.
