My Game of 5 Gifts, Each under $10

Hi, Just thought I’d share the game I’m playing at the moment, in aid of my other half’s upcoming birthday. It’s pretty simple: the goal is to get 5 gifts each under $10, total $50.

BUT the ozb in me has chosen to make it even more interesting, by finding the BEST value. So far, I have the following on my list:

1) Priceline goodies bag, instore - Free
So I bought 9 tubs of Olay moisturiser (which we would buy anyway), and it was 40% off.

2) Jewellery from just jeans, instore - 5 pieces for $10
Saw on the website some items were $2 each. Went in store to discover more items in the 5 for $10 range.

3) Chemist warehouse nail polish, instore - 4 for $10

Not bought this yet, not sure if it's nay good, but I’ll pop in store to check it out.

4) Bonds shorts, free delivery - $10

I’m undecided on this and haven’t got it yet, plus I don’t know what size she is :S

5)
if I can't find anything better, it will be chocolate :)

… and if she plays her cards right she might get another one.

EDIT: This game evolved from her request to me, that I organise a low cost gift from each of our young kids, to teach them the concept of giving :)

Poor girl gets $50 worth of crap, rather than a nice $50 present…

        $10… hmm

        • An adult movie ticket - so mum can have time off away from the kids
        • Coffee & Cake - same reason as above
        • New book - something to relax and read by herself
        • Bath soaps & scented candle - Lay in bath and read book
        • Box of chocolates or bottle of wine

All of this stuff is centred around her, and also around experiences that are about her. Think of those as like your kids saying "hey mummy, you've looked after us plenty, have some time to yourself"

Most of your list is just 'stuff', that will get put to one side and not used.

          thank you :)

even when I take the kids away for any period of time, would you believe she uses her respite time to catch up on the chores she otherwise can not complete!!! know anyone (other than me) that will wash our clothes for $10? :)

        • @radnom:

So find things to kick her out of the house ;)

        • @radnom: agree with spackbace on this one i would reconsider a few things. The idea is really thoughtful but sounds like a waste of money just to get the best deals.

The best gifts are ones which are hand made. Perhaps you could get your kids to paint a picture each and then take them to buy cheap frames from target.

        • @Spackbace:
i notice there's 15% off OurDeal… i'll have a look through that and see if i can find something that'll pique her interest in venturing out :)

          @lkp:
i like that idea, and particularly framing their art - i've never thought of that. their art usually gets blu-tacked to the wall… and after a while it gets ripped and taken down.

  • I like your gift ideas, especially now that you mentioned the plan behind them. Sally Hansen has a reputation for being a good nail polish brands (but that could be because they make nail-improvement products, not just nail-polish. My vote for gift number 5 is chocolate. I'm sure you'll find a nice box of chocs that can be shared with the kids.

    • than you:)

it's good to hear that sally hansen is not complete rubbish. she likes to do the girl's nails in the school holidays :)

and chocolate is defo on the list. i'm just waiting for a good lindt bargain

      • Chocolates are nice unless she has told you she wants to eat healthy then they are a big no no!

  • For gift #5, may I suggest a ribbon. You know how she'll feel with the previous gifts when you present your last gift with a ribbon around "IT".

    • lol! i assume you're talking about the chocolate? ;)

  • Some vistaprint stuff, eg 2 mugs, $7.99 delivered

    • thanks, although i can't find that bargain? unless i missed it

  • Ummm, if each gift is under $10, then the total has to be less than $50.
    $9.95 x 5 = $49.75

This is OzBargain, 25 cents is a big deal !

    • that's what i'm talkin bout! game on!!
