Hi Nick, are you able to give everyone an update re online orders etc.
I think a few people inc myself are getting nervous … :)

    And it is down:
1194 Table 'sessions' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
    in:
[delete from sessions where expiry < 1470455965]

  • I had an issue where I paid for 2 lenses via Paypal. After paying from PayPal, the site crashed when I was trying to get redirected back. As a result, I have paid but did not receive any confirmation of any order number or anything…. PayPal has definitely processed the payment at their end they said.

Not feeling very confident at all

    • I wouldn't stress, seems like they are doing their best given their situation. Plus always have paypal protection.

    • Gerry Gibbs Camera Warehouse has been solid in their delivery for orders I made.

      • Yes I know. They have also been good to me. However, they are closing down so it's a bit scary esp. when I have spent over $1k

  • How long till the site comes back up?

    • +2

Very sorry I Will post a comment when I know

  • Would the sale applies if I go to the store?

    • they are not answering me so i am guessing yes

    • If you can get inside the closed store :P

      • Ah you must be one of those customers from /r/talesfromretail ;)

  • +1

Sorry to see you guys go. Best of luck to GG and yourself Nick!

    • +1

yeah.. just to add to this…

I always thought GG is the best store in the West? I'm in Syd so the shipping killed it.

      sad to see them go..

      BEST WISHES…

  • Sad to see Gerry Gibbs go. Whilst sometimes it was tough to get a response, they had the best prices

I got my E-M1, 12-40 and Flash from this mob

    I'll take a 300mm F/4 if you have one at 30% off :)

While the website is down, can you please post a pricelist? haha

  • Purchased through the website - but selected direct deposit and added a note to say i was on my way to the store. The physical store is still open (well was at 10am WST). Picked up a Canon 16-35 F4L for $979. Sad to see GG going..brought a few items from them over the years and always top service and advice.

  • +1

Been into the store, some stock still left but lots of customers in store.

    • +3

Yeah.. i reckon a lot will be cancelled as people will have picked up in store long before they look at the online orders. :(

      • +2

Alot easier selling out the door than having to process postage orders, so what you say makes sense.

        • Well, I can't really envisage someone allocating items of when they were sold, regardless of if it was instore or online. I'd imagine staff will be overloaded with heaps of people picking through the bargains and whatever is left will go to online orders.. 30% off is kinda unheard of in photography gear..

        • Like the saying goes… Too good to be true. Ha ha!

  • Sad to see less Australian competition.

  • +1

    Sheet… Got a free E-M1 there last December…

    • +2

      That's why they closing then

      • Nah, there was a great Olympus promo at the time…

  • +2

Just went down to the store. All the lights were out and there was a guy standing at the door. Thought it had closed down early, but it was only a blackout. That's one way to stop instore sales!

    • +2

Did they sell the globes as well?

  • Still waiting here at Sydney for the online store 🙏🏽

  • I ordered this morning before it got Ozbargained with direct credit. It would be fair and reasonable to suggest a staff member or associate comment as to all stock being sold today directly to walk in (as mentioned previous thread) and along the lines no online orders will be honoured ? As such I can then assume an order whereby we have direct credited the Maquarie Bank account ( which would be the trading account opened by the recievers) will see the funds hit it Monday and then be refunded immediately on Monday when it's receipted). I believe Gerry Gibbs was on restricted credit with suppliers for some time so it may be safe to assume someone could comment over the weekend even anonomiusly.

  • Surprised that so many here like the shop.
I've bought from them a few times but they didn't seem very friendly.

    http://www.perthnow.com.au/business/perths-gerry-gibbs-camer…

Acting Commissioner for Consumer Protection David Hillyard said the liquidator has advised that customers who have fully paid for purchases or repairs should be able to collect their items.

“If this is not the case, consumers can contact Consumer Protection for further advice and we can take the matter up with the liquidator,” Mr Hillyard said.

“We are told that those people who have paid deposits on purchases yet to be delivered will become unsecured creditors and will need to await the conclusion of the liquidation process before finding out if they will get their money back.”

I don't mind wasting a few weeks seeing if I get a 30% discount, and if it goes pear shaped, just claim it back through a chargeback. You'd be a a dead set idiot to direct deposit.

        Yet he subsequently ordered!

        • +1

He didn't take his own advice!!

    • Dick smith part two? Or three if you count kogan as the number two….

I called the store and the staff member wasn't able to tell me if my order was going to be fulfilled as he 'Didn't have access to the system." He said any order not fulfilled would receive a refund. I asked how I would know if my order was to be sent or refunded and he said I would be notified by email either way.

  • Just received a cancellation of order email.

Yeap.. someone bought my metabones adapter instore so I miss out.. I knew this happen..

Site is back up but no more camera gear…drone related gear only it seems.

    • there are some m43 lenses

  • I just got an email from PayPal saying my refunds didn't go through and to contact the seller….

    • and so did i.

this is NOT a very good sign!

  • Again Paypal refund not processed successfully.

    • I opened a pp dispute on mine. Unfortunately there is only 1 situation i can think of that would trigger this and pp havent suspended there account. I hope i am wrong.

      • Either way we should be protected by PP?

    • Called them this morning and he said to email them instead.

Will give it till tomorrow for them to respond before disputing it on paypal

      • i wouldnt be waiting - they get an email when you raise a dispute anyway. the more cases pp see against an account the quicker they are to respond to the situation.

        • Ah ok. Will do it now then

        • Yep I rang them this morning. Got the same story, to email them. I've done that and also contacted them via PayPal to kick off the PayPal process.

  • just an update guys, i ordered on Saturday morning. got super worried, paid via paypal, emailed them yesterday , they said my items were in stock ( i never got a refund notice )

went today and collected my goods, still a bit of nikon lenses in stock

heaps of theseNikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G Lens for $199 rrp $299 , a few other tripods, other lenses.

    • for my order on olympus lenses, it was cancelled and emailed by them yesterday regarding a refund, so waiting for the refund to process now.

I received a email of explanation on th 10th of August (which i wont go into detail or comment on) but the bottom line is they advised that payment (refund) would happen overnight or within 12-24hours - again this hasnt happened nor is there any indication in my pp account that this is pending.

    Pretty ordinary.

    • What scumbags.

      • not looking good is it ?

    • Mine too. the refund is still cancelled.
Going to escalate the paypal transaction

  • +1

Just received email from Murray Gibbs:

I firstly wish to sincerely apologise for the lack of response regarding the processing of refunds and updates.

While I have spent every possible second of time since Saturday the 8th of August in getting the refunds processed due to neither PayPal or the banks communication with each other we have
Today submitted full details on all transactions in order to have the process expedited as we processed the refunds within a 24-48hr time frame and all transfers have been blocked by both PayPal and the Bank.
We now have this being looked into from a legal perspective as I understand your frustration as I am taking the full brunt of this personally from all sides.

If I do not have the issue resolved by the banks and PayPal within the next 24hrs I will forward all parties the appropriate contact details for those that are holding up the process in having the funds released so that PayPal can process the refunds that were authorised by myself on the 6th and 8th of August

I have escalated this with our solicitor and the liquidator to have prioritised as I have been chasing this to be done since Monday the 8th of August

    Regards

    Murray Gibbs

hopefully the banks and Paypal does not hold onto the funds….

    • Thanks for that info.

  • Anyone got updates of any sort/refunds?

    • Nothing. I requested a refund on the 12th which was escalated straight away. Apparently a decision will happen on the 22nd, so am waiting for that to see if I have to take it further.

But yeah.. the lack of any updates is pretty terrible.

      • Keep us up to date

      • minds the 25th and not a single response to the actual ebay claim either - any comms i get from them is via direct email.

      • Still haven't heard anything back.. filed my Paypal dispute last week as well.. ugh.

        • Yeah.. I'd have thought i'd hear something today but nothing..

    • all i got was an email last week basically saying it was everyone elses fault but theres.

the lack of action is shocking and frankly the 'story' is pretty thin. i wont post it for legal reasons but like previously stated, i have my suspicions on whats happened.

  • This is ridiculous, I've lodged a chargeback with my CC. Haven't heard from Paypal or Gerry Gibbs since my last email.

    • I think we all became creditors, after a few phone calls and emails to Western Australia Consumer Protection and the liquidator.
Need someone with legal knowledge to shed some light how it works.

      In short, yes ridiculous!

      • Update 23/08/2016:

Just got my refund. Kudos to the liquidator Melsom Robson Chartered Accountants and Elny who is working on the Gerry Gibbs Camera Warehouse case.
I was one of them who paid using direct deposit, not sure if it works the same for Paypal.

I think Elny needs to verify the transactions made prior then approve the refund, so I think it is this verification that is holding things back.

        • Good to hear you had a positive result. Hope PayPal people get the same!

        • My concern is why were the administrators allowed to do an auto siphon on the paypal account ?

        • @BiotBargin:
that is something new we learn about Paypal then.

        • @BiotBargin:

          Yes that's very suspicious.

        • Do you have an email address for Elny? I'm unable to call during the day so an email address would be very handy.. cheers.. Just PM me it if you have it..

  • +1

Okay, I have an update.. So I disputed the charge in paypal on the 12th August. Since the paypal account was frozen, the charge was escalated immediately to a claim. The seller then had 10 days to dispute it, and I'd say that because the account was frozen, they couldn't do anything about it. So that ran out yesterday on the 22nd. So I just called paypal, and went through the menu for a disputed transaction. I didn't really have to say anything, other than Thank you, as they could see what was going on and refunded me the money. Said that it's going to take 3-4 business days for it to refunded onto my card.

So yeah, just dispute it, and call up paypal once the time runs out. Easy.

    • Cheers for that, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

      • Fk me. On hold with PayPal for ages!

    • yeah well my dispute time frame ran out yesterday for them and no action as yet. i shall give it another day or two before i waste my time on hold trying to advance things with pp :)

      • That's the thing, I don't think PP will do anything until you contact them.

  • anyone remember how much is olympus 12-40mm f2.8 pro during this closing down sale at Gerry?
