      • How long will that take? Still at the $650 - $700 mark. :(

      • Probably won't happen until 1180 is released.

      Bit the bullet. Total overkill for 1080P gaming but I guess it future proofs it for a few years. Plus only a tad more than local 1060s.

      Are Amazon OK with warranty?

        They are pretty good with warranty normally.

        I have found them very good. Had a couple of warranty claims on a Powercolour 290, and they ended up replacing the card (and eventually refunding me my money).

        The only issue is shipping back to Amazon - hey did refund me some of the costs but it didn't cover all of it.

        • That's reassuring. Now I'm thinking however that the 1070 might be overkill for 1080P gaming. :/

          • @cnut: You'd be surprised. I loaded up rise of the tomb raider the other day expecting that i could just max out everything on a 1070 at 1080p. To my surprise, it was running with 6gb+ of vram and averaging at around 55 fps (with ssaa 4x). I had to turned off ssaa 4x and switch to smaa for 85ish fps. I reckon tomb raider is rather an exceptional case though, most of the time it is an overkill unless you are running a 120hz+ monitor

  • Is it worth upgrading from a 970 G1 Gaming -> 1070? Currently using a 60hz 1440p display.

    • Can you play anything you want at maximum settings currently? That's what a 1070 will do at 1440p.

      If not are you happy with the compromise on settings you need to have a stable 60 FPS?

      It's borderline IMO, you aren't buying that much more gaming quality ATM. But you are buying some additional quality.

    • Hold out for 1170 imo.

      Yours should be fine for another year or so. Most games are ported up from console anyway.

      • Thanks for the advice, I guess I'll just stick with the 970 for now. I've got a really old setup (socket 775 cpu, ddr2 ram), with the 970. Older components are bottlenecking performance, so I'll just go ahead and upgrade those.
