  • Surely you are trolling in regards to the first monitor?

    • 2 People bought in last 24 hours…. Please help us!! Oh LCD it must be good look at resolution people!!

      • @sprof, what's your recommendation for something roughly the same price ? I need a cheap monitor.

Find a used monitor on Gumtree

        • @The Land of Smeg:

Indeed. Plenty of good well priced monitors.

I've seen a widescreen monitor this size before. It's just painful to look at. Maybe it's alright for a terminal barely used (eg: server) but not practical for everyday use.

I've seen a widescreen monitor this size before.

Yet people here on Ozbargain are perfectly happy with a 5.5 inch screen on a mobile phone.

Strange how fads and fashion affect logic, eh?

        • Totally different use case. One is a Desktop OS interface a couple of feet in front of you, the other is High-DPI in your hands optimised for one app at a time.

I love using my 5.3" Smart Phone in front of my face, but I would struggle to use it as a PC monitor. I just lined them up in front me (phone about 1 foot away and monitor about 2 feet) and if I took depth perception out of the mix (and refocus of my eyes) they take up about the same amount of space in my available vision.

        • @The Land of Smeg:

          I have a HP laptop running a 15" screen at 1366 x 768 native.

It's sitting on my desk, and I am typing to you using it's keyboard and screen. I use it exclusively for business apps when travelling, so that's practical for everyday use.

We have a 10" Netbook at home, so it's even smaller… yet it gets used every single day. So that's also practical for everyday use too.

My Asus Transformer is running android, but it's also got a 10" screen and it's 100% practical for everyday use.

My son has a brand new iPad Air with a 10" screen, we cannot get him off the thing so that is also practical for everyday use.

How come a 18.5" Acer is deemed "too small" and not practical for everyday use?

        • @llama: That's a good point. I remember seeing a (LCD widescreen) Desktop monitor which was ridiculously small but come to think of it maybe it was one that was even smaller monitor than 18.5".

          @The Land of Smeg:

The resolution is probably more important than the size. You can always move the screen coser to "zoom in" :-)

I hate using screens with low vertical resolution, as modern apps (eg: MS) use idiotic menu interfaces like the ribbon that can take 150 or 250 pixls off the available screen real estate. That makdes a big difference on a 600 or 800 pixel screen.

My Samsung Note 3 phone has good screen size and high res but the oscreen keyboard in Android is rediculously massive, so when invoked (in landscape mode) there is about 10mm of the page to review which is like looking through a letterbox slot LOL

It's a good price. Some people just want a display, and don't care about the size or quality.

Agreed. There's plenty of desks in our offices that have monitors not unlike these…some corporate applications are just about functional bang for buck, and buying used off Gumtree is out of the question.
