  • The "EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 8GB" is $50 more for what seems to be just a small difference in timings - would anyone recommend the FTW over the SC or vice versa for any reason?

    • +2

Wouldn't recommend it for this but changeable light colours

      • +2

So this SC also has LED light but not changeable?

        • +2

Yeah, they have white led's which you can turn on/off as opposed to rgb led's on the FTW

The difference in performance probably isn't worth it. FTW cards aren't binned, but only guaranteed to work at the advertised speed so you could very well get an SC card that OC's better than the FTW. It's only worth it if you reckon the extra cooling (90mm vs 100mm fans, not sure what else), RGB leds, better power delivery and extra power connectors are worth it. Those are the differences i'm aware of so far.

Oh okay, thanks, I do not care for flashy lights on a video card, not even a little bit, but the other stuff though is interesting. Fan size, power connectors, those things might sway me to an upsell. Cheers!

      • Results from over clocking zotac amp! Cards indicated the additional power connectors are utilised when over clocked and they were pushing 450mhz over clocks above the founders edition standard clock… no that I can find the article right now.

Although I went with the 1070 FTW myself (it was $599 delivered from amazon - same price as the SC at the time), its definitely not an extra $50 - they both clock up to about the same - i.e. SC is apparently not not power limited, so the extra power phases don't make much difference.

Thats assuming you don't want the wanky LED lighting.

Do not buy the 'DT' version of the FTW, unless its much cheaper than the SC - those have chips which lost the silicon lottery and won't reach FTW clocks, so they put them back down to stock speeds and flog them off as 'FTW DT'. Fine if all you want is the extra LED bling, or the bigger cooler, but they most likely will not clock as high as the SC model.

Price drops should be expected, seems rx470 are easy to get now overseas and Australian outlets are quoting sticks after 18 aug. So should be a few Price drops over the next few months especially one rx480 are more readily available at less than rrp.

  • What would be the most popular GTX 1070? Looking at buying one but I don't know all these different terms

    • +1

The one in this deal seems very popular - EVGA GTX 1070 SC
