Sunbeam PU6910 Espresso (EM6910 + EM0440) $499 at The Good Guys eBay (Free Pickup)

80

This coffee machine is a bit of a crowd favourite here at OzBargain, also it rates well at coffeesnobs.

Has been around for yonks and usually sells around this price on an annual basis.

On a personal note, I have just killed one of these machines after buying it second-hand eight years ago and neglecting to do any maintenance on it at all. More than happy to have another one. It's a beautifully designed and built machine that you will love for years, even after you buy your first flying car.

On thegoodguys website it sells for the same price but they don't offer pickup. They won't offer you an instore discount either (it's already $150 off), so buy on ebay, grab your cashback, and choose free local pickup.

Catalogue ends 15th August so I expect the ebay special will end on the same day.

Of course I shopped around. At 2ndsworld they are $455 + $25 postage (not worth the wait!), and at the Sydney Sunbeam factory outlet you can pay $399 (but they won't post it).

  • Why can't they make a machine that grinds then brews automatically

    • Funny you should say that. I considered the Delonghi Magnifica Fully Automatic machine for the same price, but I strongly prefer the oldskool barista experience. Much more satisfying and tastes better too.

    • they do, but when something breaks, or needs to be cleaned it is such a chore, if seperate you don't have ro replace the lot.

I use to own an all in one …… much happier now with separates.

Also, the heat from the espresso machines ruins the beans that are sitting in the grinder.

Comes to $449.10 with code CTENOFF if you buy it in the next 15 minutes :)

  • How is it compare to this one apart from prices. Thanks

    • The breville can't brew and steam milk concurrently. Breville will save you some bench space. If the breville grinder breaks, you will have to lose more bench space. IF the breville brewer breaks, you have a supremely large grinder. Breville has PID, which gives better temperature control.

The sunbeam is super duper noisy, its the nature of the thermoblock.

As noted by schwinn, these units are quite different. I have the PU6910, I am a fan. It is a fantastic unit. It has twin thermoblocks which it can make coffee and steam milk at the same time. No waiting for the machine to cool or heat between coffee and milk. This is fantastic when you have guests, you can churn out lovely coffee while someone steams the milk, or if you are handy you can do both in each hand (I can do this). Productivity doubled.

The "Breville the Barista Express" is a single thermoblock (thermocoil). It can only do one function at a time. That means you have to wait between making coffee and steaming milk, and usually there will be a delay in the switchover due to heating/cooling. These units also tend to burn coffee if you switch from steaming to coffee making too quickly as the temperature is too high.

The grinder that comes with this deal is pretty average (very inconsistent). Best thing you could do is sell it without using it (you might get $75 for it) and get something like the Breville SmartGrinder (often $200 or less).

      • Agreed. That grinder is rubbish, about as effective as chopping your vegetables with a mallet.

  • neglecting to do any maintenance on it at all.

What maintenance? Just the occasional clean and run some citric acid etc through to descale?
Are there seals to replace or something?

    • Backflushing. Run cleaner through every few months. Regular thermoblock seal replacement. No big deal and all coffee machines need this kind of thing.

    • I never even descaled it or ran a cleaner through, and it still lasted around ten years without issue.
      And that's with Adelaide water.

I knock out between 6 & 8 coffees from this machine each day. Damn cheap coffee with $12/kg coles beans.

I started at a company who had one in their kitchen, unused for years, they were using a nespresso pod machine. This thing is back in action now, pod machine is neglected. I don't have a grinder at home for my delonghi so i grind about 100gm of beans for teh weekend on fri arvo. Going strong

  • This seems to be $499 all the time at the Sunbeam outlet near me.

They also have some whiz bang machine that is $1999 - I would think for that kind of money you would get an Italian made machine
