  • Some good deals here but tricky times…

  • Awesome deals - if only my wife wasn't giving birth around that Hawaii time I would have taken it

    • +10

Tell her to hold it in??

      • Lol sure…

        OR

I could always go on my own and meet the little one after my solo trip

        • +5

If the Mrs lets you in the house… ;)

        • Only if you have another place pre-arranged for you to stay after you come back

        • Do it. That move would work wonders for you :)

    • You can have babymoon then

  • The deals look good, but to get the low price, you pretty much have to travel without luggage.

    • still a bargain even with baggage! its only $20pp each way for 20kgs which isn't that bad.

      • +2

It can be done… my gf and I just spent 8 days in Malaysia with 7kg of carry-on luggage each, and even then I took too much stuff.

        • +1

Too easy, I just came back from a month in Europe + America solo with a 7kg carry-on and a backpack.
All of my flights bar one did have luggage allowance, though this was more for the convenience factor, and it also forced me not to buy random crap.

        • +2

          @bangbang:
That's hard core. I can't even do Syd to GC for a week with carry on only.

        • +1

Traveling with only carry-on is surprisingly easy.
I spent a month in Singapore and Malaysia with only carry-on with no problems at all, was easier than lugging a big backpack around Vietnam for sure.

        • @Wolfy:
How many times would you guys wear the same underwear, shirts etc.

Ewww i can imaginations the smells from here

        • Same here. I travel with carry on only. I've done South America for four weeks with carry on, covering cold and warm (Patagonia and BA in February).

        • @bangbang:

Europ + America? Damn… I can understand the asian countries as it's so hot you pretty much wear singlets/tshirts and shorts, but for EU/US? Impossible for me..

        • +2

          @BKZ:
Always wear clean stuff every day and often change for going out at night, its too hot/sweaty/stinky otherwise & I prefer not to be the typical tourist in singlet/shorts all day/night.

Merino underwear & socks - they don't smell and they dry overnight.
2 short & 2 long sleeve shirts, 2 tshirts, shorts, long pants, zip off pants - all light weight, designed for travel, wash/dry easily/quickly.
2x Light weight sleep stuff that doubles for day/beach when needed.

Big stuff washed by hotel laundry once a week, hand wash small stuff in pure soap and dry overnight.

Travel sandals & joggers and electrical stuff all in a bag/backpack designed for carry on; light weight and maximum size.

Think it was about 5.5kg all up when I left.

Wear merino shirt, jumper, heavy pants & boots on plane.
Toiletries, sunscreen, bug spray and anything heavy goes in daypack, easy for security checks and I've never seen a 'handbag' weighed even if they check carry on bags.

        • @BKZ:

          It's called a washing machine.

I often travel to SE Asia for month+ long trips and only take carry on too.

        • +1

          @Drew22:

Great you guys can do it.

Personally I prefer to do washing once a week or every ten days - i'm on holidays and treat myself like royalty when I am so minimise any hard work what so ever.

Kudos for being able to survive on one bag.

THe way my wife travels I always need to purchase additional kgs for luggage - serious shopper and likes to take so much with her!!!! I

        • +2

I've been overseas for a year & a half with 7kg and 1.5kg of that is a laptop & charger most people wouldn't have. It's really not hard.

I wouldn't call 10 mins to throw something in a machine and hang it out 'hard work' but each to their own :)

        • @BKZ:
          Hotels do it for you…

        • @Drew22: but …..

you still you have to count items and mark up the list

Ensure items are ready by a particular time…

Oh and will need spare clothing for when laundry is being washed by hotel which can take a whole day or two unless your willing to oay the cost of the garment itself to have it done within 3 hrs

Thats if thw clothes dont get lost which happened previously and of all the hotels at a Grand Hyatt… they were apologetic and provided a substantial discount…

Either way i see your view. Personally i orefer to takr a few items of each…. never know where.i end up

      • You just have to be very careful you don't go overweight. I paid for the 20kg for a trip from Melbourne to Adelaide, but was a few kgs over, and was charged an additional $96 for the extra weight!! That was with Jetstar, and the extra weight was in my carry-on, not my checked luggage, but they weighed it together. First time that I've had my carry-on luggage weighed with my checked luggage!
