These pens are loved by many - top post on imgur yesterday was dedicated to these.

Personally I like them but that said I am no pen connoisseur and will take whatever I can get - 50% cheaper from Amazon than anywhere in Australia (Officeworks $47.90 http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/pilot-g-2-f…, Staples, Big W)

Blues are 12c cheaper as are most other colours so toy around.

Some people seem to prefer the 0.3's so I looked around and they're 26.90 shipped to me which is still far cheaper than anywhere local: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006SVC08/ref=ox_sc_act_t…
Only issue is that the black 0.3's do not ship here.

If you haven't used the Amazon App before please consider using my referral link - we'll both get $5

  • love this pen and good price too !!

  • I like the price but if we can get .3 would be perfect! I love the G2 .30 mm

  • I cannot justify paying that much for a pen when i keep losing them at work after someone borrows it or steals it when i turn my head.

A 12 pack for 50 cents is good enough

If you want a few dozen good quality pens for FREE, go to exhibitions and collect as much as you want. I have a few hundred for CEBIT and an OHS exhibition

    • To an extent I agree. Most of the pens I use on a daily basis are free promo ones.

I do know people who don't lose crap as much as I do or people who are attached to a certain type of pens. This deal is for them.

That said, the G2's are one of the better 'low end' pens I've used. Haven't had too many issues with them in the past but yeah I see where you're coming from.

  • ebay from Asia / buying refills from ebay is cheaper in most instances

Btw Pilot G2s are world renowned for crapping out once you drop them, as they fall straight on the nip due to their centre of gravity.

    • I'm no pen expert but just looked on eBay and have seen the refills. Is there a certain length or brand of housing you need to use or will they fit in almost anything?

I buy these, real G2 refills so just buy 1 at officeworks and keep using the same pen.

        • So $17.70 for the ink x12 and $4.50 for the pen from officeworks.

Doesn't make this option much more economical IMO. You can't afford to lose the housing.

Looking at Camelx3 the price of these 12 frequently drops to about $20 shipped so on those days much more worthwhile buying 12 outright.

  • Every time I need a pen I would probably just walk into a NAB branch.

  • they're $4 on eBay if anyone wants to purchase a single one

The Pentel Energel X has great reviews and is often referred to as an upgraded Pilot G2 by people who have used them, while not identical they are very similar in appearance.

I do a lot of writing and go through new pens weekly, about 3 years ago I was on a quest to find the perfect pen (for me) that was affordable, comfortable and had good performance. For weeks I researched pens online, reading reviews, blogs, forums and whole websites dedicated to pens before buying about a dozen which cost well over $100 total.

Cutting to the chase the Energel X is silky smooth and precise while the G2 often feels scratchy and skips, the Energel X is also more comfortable due to the slightly wider grip and softer rubber. Its also dries instantly unlike the G2.

One review that stands out in my memory of the G2 described it as "babies first get pen" which sounds a bit sarcastic but essentially means that he viewed it as an introduction to using gel pens.

I started with the 0.7mm but have moved up to the 1.0mm Energel X pens, they use noticeably more ink but they are a lot smoother and I prefer the bolder lines for various reasons.

While the Energel X usually go for $40-50 excluding postage for a box of 12 locally they are currently $23.58 AUD shipped from Amazon.

If anyone tries the Pentel Energel X I'm sure they won't go back to using the Pilot G2 ever again.

  • Waiting for input from left handed people on what they have found to be the best

  • I personally use the free pens from NAB :-)
