  • any links to the user manual?

  • google says

    http://www.bauhn.com.au/product-listing/48-4k-ultra-high-def…

    http://www.bauhn.com.au/_literature_153103/ATVS48-0616_-_Instruction_Manual

Cheap! Has 3x hdmi 2.0 , but no DisplayPort inputs. (unsurprisingly)
I like the qwerty keyboard on the back of the remote.

… wait, post above says 2x hdmi. Not the same model??

    • ninja edits :)

      • +3

the GTX 10x series can run this at 60hz then. over HDMI

    • With Bauhn (Aldi trademark added to no-name products bought at cheap price) the unit may come from different manufacturer to previous model. Can't judge quality until after it goes on sale.

      • +2

The "60 Day Satisfaction Return Warranty" should suffice in that case.

Looks good enough to try out. Does HEVC codex too, according to the manual.

        • +1

That's the way on these unseen, untested Aldi Special Offers™.

        • +1

Nope, @JH100, the instruction manual listed above is for a different 48 inch model. The manual for this model (ATVU48-0816) doesn't mention HEVC, unfortunately. The correct manual is here: http://www.bauhn.com.au/literature_154617/ATVU48-0816-_Instruction_Manual (sorry, new to this board - have no idea how to display as a link!)

Please note: This TV does NOT include "Smart" in the name, unlike the version advertised a few months ago (ATVS48-0616). I don't know whether that is significant or not. I was under the impression that all 4K UHD TV sets were "Smart" TVs.

If you're thinking about using one of these as a cheap monitor, look elsewhere. Have this exact one and the input lag is terrible. Also, since there is no DisplayPort, you'll need a newish graphics card which has HDMI 2.0 in order to get 4K@60Hz

    • Specs usually are different each time a similarly described product goes on sale. Can be from a different manufacturer.

But your advice is likely correct.

No one should expect high spec electronics from a store selling breakfast cereal.

(I've advised a major supplier of electronics to Aldi on quality control issues. What quality control?)

      • Yeah, I kinda had a feeling that it was gonna be crap before I bought it, but I thought why not? Anyways, it works fine as a cheap TV provided you hook it up to another set of speakers. I did end up returning it before the 60 days was up though….put the money towards a Phillips 40inch 4K monitor and couldn't be happier with it.

I tried it for a month and returned it. Pathetic picture and sound quality. A big NO if you are looking for a quality product.

    • You were expecting quality?

      • Why not? Every $ counts. Not expecting as good as big brands but atleast for the price and specs they are claiming. Panel is so pathetic that you can see the lag for seconds.

  • +1

What display panel has a native Contrast Ratio: 4500:1? We can rule out OLED on this one.

    • @chyawala I believe that is an error. The specs I linked to above say 4000:1. What contrast ratio would you expect on an OLED panel?

Manual for this TV is there too

    • Had a quick look at the manual…

      Model ATVU48-0816 (Aug 2016 model)
Various 48" UHD Bauhn TV models have been released since early 2015.

Always a worry when the first device they show how to connect up is a VCR… High tech!

As I expected, supplier is TempoAustralia. Reports on whirlpool of difficulties with or lack of warranty (other than Aldi refund) & no after-sales service in past. (They approached me to improve quality control on units like this. After a long discussion, I thought better of their offer.)

I've posted elsewhere that Bauhn electronics should be considered as throw away devices as there will be no parts to repair these rebadged rare units. Poor quality control may mean unit does not last long.

Of course these may already be sold out, if few were supplied per store.

More interested in review from someone who bought this TV in this sale. No reviews on whirlpool for this model.

      • Getting ahead of myself - of course goes on sale next Saturday.

For anyone considering purchasing this TV set, model ATVU48-0816: I have been comparing it to the model that Aldi sold for $549 a couple of months ago, model number ATVS48-0616, and one particularly important point to note is that this is NOT advertised as a Smart TV, whereas the previous model was! I'm guessing that the "S" in the ATVS48-0816 model number refers to "Smart". It also doesn't include the HEVC movie format in the specs, and can only display photos/images that are formatted as JPG/JPEG, whereas the $549 model is also able to display PNG and BMP images.

The current model is almost 3kgs lighter than the previous model, which is a plus, but for me that doesn't make up for the lack of Smart TV functionality. Perhaps for others that is less important.

Also, if playing music on your TV is important to you, look into the formats on the two TV sets. The ATVU48-0816 works with music in MP3, WMA & AAC formats, whereas the ATVS48-0616 model works with MP3 & WAV formats.

One last point: from what I can gather, this TV set doesn't have any storage space for the PVR functionality. You have to use your own USB device if you want to use the PVR function. I'm not sure whether that is the case with the other model or not. Perhaps someone who has bought it could tell us(?)

    • Welcome, Parousia.
      Good points

Needs external storage to record. The manual lists the external USB device must be FAT32 formatted. Likely limited max storage. Pretty basic approach. I think that is common on these "PVR" equipped TV's.

Before you can record with this TV set (including time-shift recording), you must have inserted a FAT32 formatted USB storage device into the USB port.

Like the previous 55"UHD deal, these current models aren't Smart.

Different Bauhn offerings often come from different manufacturers or built to very different specs, all badged with the Aldi trademark.

      No consistency with Aldi electronics.

My advice to this manufacturer on a PVR resulted in the biggest lemon in their history, as far as I could tell. It was not based on anything I had spent so many hours with them designing. Seems they cut corners & used an available unit that factory produced, and tried to fit the features to it.

It's possible the limitation was due to the tight time frame to deliver in time for the sale. I was told I would only have a few weeks between pre-production unit being supplied for review & the sale date. That's barely enough time to determine faults & make modification recommendations - certainly not enough time to deliver any modifications.

  • does anyone know the ms delay on this unit?

  • Ended up buying one. Picture looks great compared to some previous models. However has one dead black pixel. Unsure if I should take it back, don't really notice it whilst watching stuff, unless I try and look for it.

    • Can you take a picture of it? still unsure to buy it

      • I can but I don't know how to put it on here :S

        • upload it to imgur if you have an account :D have you tested any games on it just curious on the ms delay which im expecting to be bad haha.

        • Easier… go to your Ozbargain account, open Your Account, Posts or View, Files - Upload New File.

          In case you don't know…
