Whats The Best Mobile Deal for $20 Per Month?

Whats the best deal I can get for about $20 per month? I have my own phone.
I want unlimited calls, SMS, MMS, Voicemail, minimum 1gb data but prefer 2gb.

Don't care if its post paid or prepaid, as long as its reliable.
Would prefer to choose my own number, but I think I can just grab a cheap prepaid starter pack with number I like and then port it over?

I'm currently with Telechoice, LIVE STARTER 20 plan, with $500 included calls and 1gb data

thanks

Thanks, I had a look at the Kogan plans https://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/mobile/#1gb which appear quite good, just want to see if any better out there with a bit more data.

    • thank you, looking into it now

I like AldiMobile, Vaya & the new Coles Mobile are also good at that price point.

If you don't use more than 400 min of calls Jeenee is pretty good for $18 and 2GB of Data on Optus 4g network.

All good suggestions, My partner only needs 1gb data so Kogan maybe the go for him. I may need 2gb so will checkout all your other suggestions. Thank you

    • With my dual sim I will be using one number for private, and one for business.

So, if I just go for the Kogan 365 day deal on both sims, I end up with 2gb data anyway, and can just swap over from one to the other when I need more data.

I was about to go with Aldi, but they don't have international roaming, and I am going overseas next Feb.

Any other suggestions which include roaming in their plans?

    • Depending on where you are going, might just be easier to get a local SIM card. I'm on the Aldi $20 plan and am happy with it having moved from Vaya. Vaya was fine but better coverage on the Telstra network rather than Optus.

    • Yeah, international roaming is essential especially with the advent of 2FA internet banking!

  • Internode are doing a $20 / month plan at the moment. I've been on LiveConnected $20/month plan for a few years now with no problems, though I'm told their support is pretty poor.

i just signed up for Vaya with this deal

  • I don't recommend Aldi due to it being on the Telstra Wholesale network (worst coverage of them all) and lack of roaming.

The others have full Vodafone/Optus network with 4G. These two providers also have national roaming and national data roaming so keep that enabled on your phone as well. It comes with no extra cost.

From personal experience, I have not found this at all.

I was originally with Optus and then moved to Vaya for a couple of years. No change in coverage but more $$$ in my pocket.

I've been using Aldi for around 3 months now and the coverage I am getting is definitely superior to what it was with Optus. I'm in Sydney. Some areas where you could get only very poor data connections with Optus are much better with Aldi/Telstra.

As for roaming, unless you absolutely must keep your local number while overseas it is almost always better and cheaper to get a local SIM card in the country you are visiting.

      • I've never experienced any blackspots in Sydney in the past year on any of the networks.

I might sometimes notice that the signal might be a bit stronger in some areas than others on Telstra, but I'm sure that is due to the positioning of the towers. I don't notice much call quality difference between 1-2 bars and full 4-5 bars on 3G calls, which comes down to the codec. I would hardly call that improved coverage as that just means they overbuilt the area or just have towers in the same area.

I noticed browsing on Telstra in higher signal areas is super slow. In some areas data actually drops out even with full signal. I'm sure everyone has experienced this. I don't know why it happens but I asked one of the guys in the Telstra van and they told me it was because the towers were too close together and causing interference. Go figure… A bit like too many wifi signals on the same wifi channel.

Telstra also cut their maintenance lately. So it's trending downwards. Additionally with the switch off of 2G we might start seeing more and more blackspots crop up on Telstra as they are being refarmed to 4G, but most people don't have VoLTE.

Data speeds are the slowest on Telstra from my own experience (This is most likely due to the ratio of users to investment). Although I suspect there is a technical reason why you cannot just put more towers in an area. Sadly in some areas Optus is also on similar levels. Vodafone has put more investment in but still relies on roaming agreements with Optus.

However, Telstra wholesale is another beast. It's lack of coverage is well.. Makes it very Questionable.

      • I too have noticed better coverage from Aldi compared to TPG (both Optus and Vodafone) in our particular situation - both at home in Sydney, where we previously could only use or phones at the front of the house, and at our friends' house about 20 mins or of Canberra, where they had zero coverage from Optus, but good Telstra coverage.

  • When you buy a sim with Kogan, is there an allocated phone number on the card?

How many sims can I order? I want to be able to choose a good phone number.

    • send me a private message and ill send you some information.
