This ought to fix a few of those price headaches.

    • That was painful.

    • these puns are inflammatory

    • or from jv's posts?

This is just paracetamol in different packaging, definitely not a bargain.

    • +4

This isn't the same as normal paracetamol. It's got a higher dose of paracetamol per tablet (665 mg vs 500 mg) and is sustained-release. That means you get constant pain relief throughout the 8 hours the tablets last, whereas normal paracetamol wears off after 4 hours or so. With Panadol Osteo you should only take a maximum of 6 tablets every 24 hours while you can have a max of 8 tablets for normal Panadol.

In my opinion (as a Doctor) I think panadol osteo is an utter marketing scan. There is NO benefit to taking this over standard paracetamol except convenience of taking 6 rather than 8 tablets. It's not useful at all for acute pain as it's slow release, better off with normal paracetamol. It's grossly overpriced.

I have lots of poor old patients (both metaphorically and financially) that have been paying rip-off pricing for this over-marketed hype and slowly convert them back to standard paracetamol which costs pennies. The marketing and "research" put out by the manufacturer is incredible, it's really just focuses on trying to highlight people are more likely to forget four times a day meds over three times a day.

    • No, it is a slow-release version. Thats what they say, at least.

      • Slow-release and sustained-release is the same thing.

@manic: Oops that's my bad. Sorry.

    • Not the same mate.

  • Note that this is 665mg paracetamol as oppose to 500mg for the standard panadol. That's the only difference but might be awkward when you generally take two standard ones as you'll overdose a little on these ones.

    • Also slow release.

Lol that's only 4c cheaper than Chemist Warehouse regular prices

    • Lol

      • Well, it was $7.99 just last week. :P

And your price was $7.95 just last week.

        • @Baysew:They have a 1 pack limit, whereas we have a limit of 10. :)

@BlackshawsRdPharmacy: I think if you need 960 paracetamol tablets, you should probably look into getting that joint replaced.

        • @Brouw3r: Hey! Thats not how capitalism works!

Chemist warehouse is the way to go

No idea if this a deal or not but save your money and buy a cheaper generic product .

    http://www.abc.net.au/health/thepulse/stories/2015/03/05/419…

Theres tons of evidence proving that these pain killers that supposedly target specific ailments are marketing fantasy .

    • +1

Just have to do a little research before you buy. Check the active ingredient and the means of delivery. Many of the targetted pain analgesics are the same old 500mg of paracetamol packaged differently.

In this case there is a higher dose of paracetamol and it's allegedly employing a controlled release mechanism which is a real thing.

Whether this is more effective at managing pain caused by osteoarthritis is a different story. But the fact remains that it is a different product to a standard 500mg paracetamol tablet.

      • As mentioned already, these are controlled release tabs, one layer of normal and another layer of controlled release. 665mg of paracetamol vs 500mg, 100 tabs of 500mg of paracetamol is about $10, whereas these are usually around %6 ish on special for 96 tabs. Just be careful about taking too much, always stay below the recommended dosage on box.

    Panamax >

    • +2

Yup. Panamax FTW. Often 99c for a 100 tablet pack @ Priceline.

    • if you are taking paracetamol long term - it might not seem like a lot to have to take 2 extra tablets per day (as stated above osteo = 6/day, panamax = 8 per day) but if you are already taking 10 - 15 other tablets, and now have to find time for another dose - it can be a serious hassle…
panadol (regular) has its place - as do the generics, but so does osteo

      its not apples and apples

      • +3

Respectfully disagree - I think panadol osteo has one place in society, sitting calmly on the shelves of a pharmacy. I don't accept 2 extra pills per day is worth 500% mark-up over generic paracetamol. I have many old patients that have a high pill burden, paracetamol isn't high on my hit list to get rid of.

In addition, the geriatric dose of paracetamol is only 6 tablets of normal paracetamol anyway (3g). 4g paracetamol in elderly is associated with potential for hepatic toxicity (particularly those of low weight).

I agree with jamestownfx - panamax is a much more cost effective option.

        • I agree. Slow release medications for pain certainly have their place, especially where there is the risk of unwanted side-effects like sedation with opiates, leading to poorer quality of life. Paying extra for these panadol is a waste of resources and as you mention is an unnecessary burden on those who are frequently the most financially burdened in our society.

  • A better bargain everyday price

I find ibuprofen much faster and effective pain relief. Also a top notch hangover cure remedy.

    • Ibuprofen rips your stomach apart if you don't eat before you take it though, paracetamol is safe as houses.

    morphine works best. :)

  • Deal has now expired. Price has gone back up to $7.95

Chemist Warehouse price has remained at $5.99
