Hi all,
I am interested in buying a tablet that has an hdmi connection available mainly for streaming onto my tv.
Just want something they will do the job really. Can anyone suggest what to go for? Don't want to spend too much, so less then 100 if possible if not 200 max budget

One program I would need is silverlight. I watch a subscription channel for this using my laptop (laptop no longer working)
So a Windows tablet + Chromecast may be the better option then.
Just note that you can't stream or HDMI-out Foxtel from a tablet to TV - only from laptop/PC. If that's what you want to do ;-)
Would get Chromecast and either use an existing phone, or buy a cheapo android phone for control. Most things will work somehow with this (depends on what your exact need is).
One of the 4K AndroidTV boxes from china is also an option - $30-70 usually with a conventional remote and Kodi.
Or a stick PC plugged into a TV, with a remote keyboard/mouse for control.
Thanks for all the feedback. Don't know to much when it comes to this stuff so appreciate it. Quick question for those that know abit about chrome cast and possibly Microsoft silverlight.
Is it possible to run silverlight on a Samsung phone and then watch from phone to chrome cast to the tv?
Google canned support for Silverlight and so has Microsoft. It is no longer being maintained or updated.
Your content provider, if still using Silverlight, should be viewed directly on a Windows or Mac running Firefox. If you are able to switch to HTML5 video, then you should be able to use pretty much any device.
Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers do not support the plugin, and since ChromeCast is actually running a heavily customised variant of Android operating system with a Chrome web browser front-end, it's not Silverlight-compatible.
If you don't mind, what subscription channel are you referring to? If there is an app on your phone and it happens to support chromecast, it would work out without having to spend money on a tablet

I would suggest getting a chromecast if the only thing you needed it to do was to stream to a tv.
Chromecast will allow you to stream your phone onto a tv via wifi. Is there any reason why you would need a tablet over this? perhaps there are other specific features?
