Sale at a loss against the law like what. You nutty French and your croissants

    • +1

There must be some exemption for when businesses need to clear old stock though surely… very odd law but I guess its to prevent large companies from selling a product at a loss to severely undercut a competitor and perhaps force them out of the market.

  • +12

Not sure exactly what this means but im guessing they may honour it now!

Vous sont fou à même penser vous avait un espoir vous insensé porcine. vous sera jamais obtenir 2TB Samsung SSD Pro. vous sera jamais obtenir cette. merci vous pour essayer à boutique à amazone france. mieux chance prochaine temps.

Selling at a loss is prohibited by law huh. Should be nice to do business in France!

  • Just received an email from Amazon.fr, informing about pricing error and therefore, cancelling the order.

  • Maybe this was all a ploy for them to take off with our 1 dollars

  • Mines cancelled too , oh well too good to be true :)

  • They said we haven't charge your card, the $1.49, will that get reversed?

    • It should do. Better to take it up with the bank if they haven't.

  • Yup cancelled. It worth a shot though!

  • Yep, mine was cancelled too.

  • +1

Bit of excitement for the day never hurt anyone.

  • We'll look back on this deal in a year or so and it'll be the standard retail price.

  • +1

Cancelled oh well. I don't think anyone will get theirs - but selling at a loss being prohibited by law? That's bullshit isn't it?

    • Might be something against loss leaders and dumping.

    • I can't anything about it after a quick Google, although a WIkipedia article mentions stores can't sell at a loss with the intent to drive another company out of business (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predatory_pricing#European_Uni…). I can't see how a one time pricing error where the only real loser is Amazon due to how ridiculous the price is would really qualify though. They themselves called it an error and rectified the price around opening of business, so it'd be hard to show malicious intent.

Still, I don't blame them for cancelling the order on the grounds it was just a pricing error.

      • Article from 2010, but I guess the laws are still in place.

"One time error" could easily develop into "accidentally on purpose".

    • I'd say it's a real stretch aka BS to compare predatory pricing with what happened here….

  • oh no! what did I miss?

  • +1

Receieved cancellation email. Price error. This should not have 300+ votes if it's not even valid.

    • -3

The cancellation email came out only a few minutes ago. Not a valid reason for neg.

      • +9

Surely "it was never actually available to anyone at this price" should be the most valid and common-sense reason for a neg ever?

        • Didn't know that until the cancelation emails came in hours later.

    • -2

I got the cancellation too, but I would still give OP 10 more + if I can! do not neg because of your anger of your """loss""" :P

      • +2

The voting is on the deal, not the OP! The deal was not available, but if I were to neg it would be because of that, not because of any judgement on the OP. Rather I thank the OP for posting, I'm not angry at all - but please understand that voting is about the deal's merits, it's NOT a popularity contest for the person who posted the deal.

      • +3

Deal voting isn't a popularity contest for the original poster…it's supposed to be in relation to whether whats posted is a good deal or not. It'd be fantastic if it had come through, but in light of the cancellation notices this clearly is not a deal.

        • ok, got it, thanks

    • "butthurt neg"

      • Bingo.

      • +2

Nope, im not upset. I ordered one but didnt really want one and i knew it would most likely get cancelled. And im not giving the neg to OP (this isnt a Reddit circlejerk). I gave a neg simply because this “deal” had 300+ positive votes on the front page for nothing and is just misleading to anybody late to the party thinking they can order one and get it. Negging so people can see it and not waste their time and hassle over nothing.

    Blablabla:)

    • +1

      Blablabla, thank you ; )

  • +3

for anyone interested about the law
"there's such a law in France. It's to prevent big stores to sell some items at a loss but still attract customers and kill competition from small stores. Very similar to the way they cannot discount books either. "

    From /r/buildapc

    • +1

"Sorry it's against the law for me to sell you the item at the price I advertised, however while you're here you should look at some of our other products"

    • "Predatory pricing is illegal in the EU. It is prohibited under EU Competition Law to sell goods at a loss with the purpose of forcing other firms out of business."

In this case I don't think that was the purpose, so does it still apply?

  • order got cancelled::(

  • Glad I didn't waste my time ordering one and sitting there the whole day hoping Amazon will honour the deal :)

  • +2

    merde!

  • +2

To be expected. But you gotta be in it to win it…

Boxing Day Gold Class and Toilet Paper Deal of the Century get to live on as my greatest Ozbargain deals…

  • Ordered and then received cancellation email from them (below cost, which is illegal in fr blah blah)

  • Of course, price error….

    • +1

Which company are you a sale rep for? ;p
Good work. Let us know when you get it.

      • +2

        Perhaps he was dreaming!

        • -5

Lol. Yes I was dreaming. I was dreaming of how well my pc would run with these things and what a bargain I got… but alas it was not to be… And why did I get a -1 vote… shouldn't ppl be happy for me for gettign the deal honored? (Even if it wasn't)

        • +1

@hell0: Hello. Not me who negged you. Maybe some jealous people. But if its illegal why would they honour the price!

We were forced to withdraw this item from your selection for the sale of the latter to the wrong price would have resulted in a sale at a loss, which is prohibited by law.

          Good luck!

        • @CandyMan:

It was prolly JV… anywho, for a few hours I felt real good :)

        • +1

@hell0: Yep, jv seems to always be the scape goat

        • @CandyMan:

But if its illegal why would they honour the price!

He made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

    • I really hope there's a lot of bad karma coming your way.

Enjoy that car accident, or what ever!

    • +1

hell0 is a perfect example of someone who is 100% full of s*it. WHY do people do this? Are they trying to make themselves feel better by trying to persuade others that they are somewhat "special"?

    • +1

Screenshots or it didn't happen mate.

    • Try the FCCCC

    • +1

What are the ACCC going to do?. This is a foreign business in France. Get real. ACCC has no jurisdiction powers against businesses operating out of foreign countries.

Plus in the first place it would consumer affairs that you would want to go to if it was an Australian business, which it's not though, not ACCC. ACCC has nothing to do with these sort of retail shop consumer purchase dispute things in the first place.

      • +1

Get real. ACCC has no jurisdiction powers against businesses operating out of foreign countries.

I'd argue they have no jurisdiction in Australia either.

  • -1

    Order cancelled!! So upset.

    • +2

What did you really expect. A brand new 2TB SSD for under $350?.

  • +6

wow everyone is having a cry…………………………………………………………

    • The salt in this thread cannot be healthy.

    • FRESH FISH ! FRESH FISH!

  • -3

    buy then sell on gumtree?

  • Still have not received my refusal email yet

    • They cancelled all the orders.

  • +2

now they wont even ship out to australia anymore. we ozbargained amazon france!

    • +3

That's because you're selecting a third party seller which doesn't ship to Australia. It appears that Amazon France itself has been dropped from the list of sellers of this. They must of had a panic removal.

  • Anyone manage to get their order approved?

    • It's illegal to deliberately sell products at a loss in the EU, and they also reserve the right to cancel your order under Australian Law since they haven't charged you.

  • Anyone got their 1 Euro ($1.49) refunded since the cancellation?

    • +1

It was done as a pre-auth. It depends on your bank when they release the fund back to you. Could be 7 days.

  • +1

Weird. Just got an email that mine has been shipped. I'm confused now.

    • Good luck, let us know if you actually receive it though :)

  • yawn $1.49 still showing on 28 Degrees 7 days later
