Bauhn 40" 4k/UHD TV $349 Was $444 @ ALDI Marion Store [SA] NOTE, the linked model 44", but all other specs are the same

110

These were at the $449 price a couple of days ago and have just been reduced further today. O.K. for what you get, tho in PC mode I'm only getting 1650 x 1200, but the text is clean and sharp. My Nexus 10 defaults to a 1080p window in both HDMI and Chromecast mirror mode tho.

  • This link wouldn't fit in the 'alternate' link box, but is the model in question. There were ~ 10 left at Marion, but I haven't had a chance to check other stores.

The linked model is 48", not 40".

      • Whoops, didn't notice that - I guess that explains why they dropped the price of this one…

  • 1650 x 1200

    Bit weird

    • Puzzled me too, this was from a lappy that does 1900 x 1200 on the Dell, but that was the highest spec on offer on the Bauhn.

      • I read in the manual online:

Some devices connected with HDMI might not recognise a TV with Ultra HD and might not work correctly or show distorted picture or sound. If the device is not using Ultra HD signals, you can switch off Ultra HD for this HDMI connection by setting Menu > System> HDMI UHD setting to ‘Standard’. If the device is using Ultra HD signals, set the setting to ‘Enhanced’.

        Something to try?

  • would snap one of these up for this money if they were this price in melbourne…anyone had any luck?

    • Aldi will generally price match with another store if they have it in stock. You need to speak to the manager and get them to call the other store. I'm not sure if they will do so interstate… but it's worth you trying.

I bought this one from Aldi Fountain Gate (VIC) in June 2016. It was discounted from $444 down to $344. I have it connected to my PC via HDMI and I get a resolution of 3840 X 2160 which is native 4k.

Everything is good except the colours of text is not always right. But the size of the screen is wonderful for video and photographic editing. I have also colour calibrated the screen and it is good.

    • That's why I was puzzled with my result. I may play with a few other configurations later. At the lower res tho, the fonts were clear and sharp, and as a TV, it's not too foul displaying SD even when almost on top of it.

    • The main complaint people had with this model for a monitor was the 150ms lag. That could be annoying for mouse movements. Droid you feel any issue that?

      • No issue at all with lag. The mouse movements are perfect, just like my Dell monitor.

    presumably this is aldi ?

    • Sorry about that - had to rush out again soon after. The aldi.com shows in the alt link and the related store banner underneath so no harm done.

      • All good. Just confirming.

  • This is a basic screen, I would save my money and buy buy something better specked, else would suit those on a budget

    • I was going to buy a high end 27" monitor, but this TV used as a monitor is just superb, especially considering the $344 price. I should point out that we purchased a Chromecast and now we have a wonderful TV too!

    • That's the whole point. I'm an Ozbargainer, and see little point in paying double the price for an extra $15 worth of dedicated locked down tech that merely duplicates many of the items I already have.

Unless you are buying high end >$1500 models, all you will get for the price is a locked down underpowered memory starved `smart' computer that is half the speed and capability of a $30 Chinese stick, that will take 5 minutes to boot and won't be updated by the manufacturer. The screen is sharp, it is simple to schedule or directly record, you have 2 USB and 4 HDMI, the sound is fair and can be superseded with the Spdif out, there are heritage component inputs and, if you still don't like it, a 60 day satisfaction return warranty.
A spot of black paint and some careful brush-work, and you can put a different name on the front if the placebo of a "name" helps.
