I got this printer last time it was discounted to replace a Canon Pixma MX870. The pros and cons below are based on that.

PROS
Single-pass double-sided scanning
500 sheet capacity (2 x 250 sheet trays)
Relatively quick printing of standard/multiple pages

CONS
Unusually tall if you're upgrading from a standard desktop (but the design is pretty unobtrusive)
Not super-quiet when printing

I've also read it's a relatively cheap inkjet to run due to the large ink tanks. (Obviously this is compared to other inkjets.)

I bought one today but won't pick it up until next week as they had to transfer from another store. Not a heap of stock around. Apparently this is being discontinues, hence the significant discount. I think new models must be coming out soon! With XL cartridges it's 2.3 cents a page (black) so fairly cheap to run.

Or if you want certain Epson models until Aug 31:

    WorkForce WF-3620 ... $50.00
    WorkForce Pro WF-4630 ... $80.00
    WorkForce Pro WF-4640 ... $80.00
    WorkForce WF-7620 ... $100.00

  • Bought! Let's hope for the best.

  • I recently bought a hp 8630 pro from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/252479

I vowed to never buy another "bubblejet/inkjet" in the late 90's due to shocking experiences back then…but it was so cheap I couldn't refuse.

I must say I'm pleasantly surprised, printing is almost as fast as my decade old laser printer. Colour output is fantastic. Only down side is that it still seems to use much more ink than my Laser printer did (yes i realise the Laser uses toner, but you know what I mean).

In any event, if this printer is even half as good as my 8630, then i'd say go for it.

  • It’s worth noting that you’ve only got 28 days to do the cashback. Gave myself a scare when I realised I’d gone a few days over, but thankfully Canon were good enough to honour it anyway.

    • Mine (also from Harvey Norman) came with a set of inks in the box, so it's probably standard. They're just a starter set (not the XL ones), but should keep you going for a while.

  • Anyone got the cashback yet? I submitted mine on 28/8 nothing in my bank account so far

    • I got an email saying it was approved and will receive it in a few weeks or something. But haven't seen the actual money yet. Good things come with patience :)

  • Got my cashback finally on Friday (23/9) direct deposited into my bank account. My claim was deemed valid per e-mail from Canon on 8/9 so basically took two weeks from the time of validation.
