New Car Suggestions for My Father

Hi All,

Looking for some suggestions for my dad to get a new car. He currently has a 10 year old Lexus GS 430 (V8) which is still okay but it's quite a heavy old thing and drinks a lot of fuel, and the tech is starting to show it's age.

So am looking for suggestions for him for a replacement:

Size: Medium or Large sedan 4 door with decent rear seating for an adult for shortish trips.
Engine: Plenty of power but doesnt have to be V8 or V6. Turbo would be fine as long as it's got some pep but doesn't need to be a race car.
Price: Anything up to about 100k.
Other: Must be new or dealer demo.
Brands: He's mostly interested in Euro or Japanese luxury brands e.g. bmw/merc/audi/lexus. So Holden/Ford are prob out.

Any suggestions?

  • Range rover sport is an option. Or maybe even the new Mercedes GLC? :)

    • He's more after a sedan not a SUV.

Sorry didn't read the description properly. How about the Mercedes E-Class then?

    Welcome to Ozbargain - Camry

How about an Infiniti? is to Nissan what Lexus is to Toyota

+1 for camry: cheap, soulless and gutless

    • Any suggestions on the inifiniti models to look at they are all foreign to me.

      • inifiniti are all crap, horrible resell value and just poor value cars.

      • The only good Infiniti sedan in the infiniti range is the recently replaced Q50 as the Q70 is old. Whilst I think the Q50 is a great buy, the Q50 may not be what your dad is looking for given the current V8 he is driving. Perhaps have a look at the Q70 but it is an older vehicle, and if that is his thing it's best to wait for the replacement.

      • Q50 hybrid, have a look at that one.https://www.infiniticars.com.au/vehicles/new-vehicles/q50/performance.html

  • If I had $100K to spend on a new car, and keeping in mind what your dad is accustomed to, I would buy a Hyundai Genesis.
Every bell and whistle, up to date tech, 5 years of warranty, servicing and roadside assist, drives like a German car, well inside your budget.

Drops $20k in the first year coz no one is buying them…

If you want a Genesis, but the 1yo one, but definitely not recommended to a new car buyer.

And likely if you had $100k to spend, you wouldn't want a Hyundai key…

      • Agree, I wouldn't buy a Hyundai if I had $100k to spend. In fact I wouldn't buy most of the common brands we see everyday: Toyota, Mazda, Ford, etc.

Yeah probably wouldn't be able to get him even to test drive a Hyundai :)

BMW 5 series or Mercedes Benz E class for sure

  • Maybe Tesla Model S 60?

    • Is there a long wait time on a tesla?

Your spending your own inheritance. Tell him his car is fine.

Keep $50K in the bank. Skoda Superb 206TSI. CA review of the wagon here. Sedan/liftback IMO is a fantastic looking vehicle.

Second that. I am a former Skoda owner, and while I have not driven this model, I drove the previous model. Loved it, ripper car

  • If you dont mind a near new car, my mate has a 2016 audi a4 b9 quattro sedan fully optioned that he wants to sell. Purchased 2 months ago. Done 3500km. If you are interested send me a PM :) with this you can be sure its never been thrashed by the dealer when it was new since its a special order.

  • How about a Jag?
