    similar products can be bought for less than $10.

    I bought my off ebay for $4 (free shipping).
    it was a direct buy and not auction (so I can buy more if I wanted too)
    using it right now at home to backup VHS tape to PC
    works well.

    This product will NOT work with any application other than the Cyberlink ones (PowerDirector, PowerProducer) included, at least this occurred with the version of this device I was asked to set up. This one appears to come with ShowBiz 3.5.

    It is not a WDM type device so does not appear in standard video capture applications, such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Elements, Windows Movie Maker, etc.

    Does anyone know of a device that I can convert my old Mini DV tapes as my new PC doesn't have firewire?

      your minDV camera should also have analog outputs (for connecting to a TV). You could use analog output with a device such as this, or the one from dealextreme. Quality not as good as firewire though.
