iRobot Roomba 980 for $1274.15 (Potentially $1146.74 with Corporate Voucher Discount Deals) at Myer Online + In-Store (15% off)

120

Before the comments flow with OMG how expensive is this thing and possibly how useless it is let me say this; yes its not cheap and its not for everyone.
Posting the deal for those interested so that they can purchase for the best prices on the latest model of the supposedly market leaders of the Robotic Vacuum Cleaner industry.
I've yet to see discounts on this latest model (though Roomba 880 has been $699 at Myer before), aside from some overseas websites and online-only websites that are a little less convenient.

It isn't cheap, but should be built to at least last a while. Have had good reviews and feedback.
Its in conjunction with the 15% off home appliances (excluding Dyson) which is ending tomorrow.

If you are lucky enough, couple this with a further 10% off by purchasing Myer e-gift cards through corporate gateways for maximum savings (bringing it down to ~$1146.74).
The really hardcore bargainers may consider hand-carrying this overseas for a further 10% GST refund (on the amount $1274.15) which essentially makes the total cost very very close to the $1k mark.
But imagine what you would look like with a Robot Vacuum cleaner in your hand-carry luggage?

    Like a real sucker?

  • Totally worth it if they threw in one of these.

It says it's iRobot but I bet it's more like Hancock…watch that landing!

You'd look like someone the Federal Police would very much like to have a little "chat" with before you board your flight.

"Yes officer, it's a self thinking vacuum cleaner, and I'm taking it out of the country to save about $100… Hang on, why are you taking me to that little room, and why are you putting on those rubber gloves?…"

If your worst enemy has an indoor pet with indoor bowel movement features, it might be worth it as a gift to them

ill give it at least another 5 more years until these things actually become useful

    • +2

they were useful at least 5 years ago…

Actually they are quite useful and smart already. They will certainly be better in 5 years but wouldn't say they are not useful now.

Xiaomi are putting out a vaccybot better specs, 1/4 of the price.

    • sounds good.
higher Vac power than the 980 too.

  • What features does this model do over the 880, that you say was nearly half the price , that makes the new model worth it.

    • It is largely a personal preference but the main thing is that you can get feedback and control the device as an IoT device for convenience. There are also various improvements to clean edges properly, suction power especially on carpet which is a big one, lithium battery and a few other factors that may deem the upgrade investment worth it depending on budget and mindset.

      • thanks.

For the sake of accuracy, the reduction relating to the GST refund is about 9.09% of the $1274.15 price, not 10%.
