    • WHAT!!!
I went there on the weekend and got rejected….
Can you please post up a receipt. :D
Time to go flame the cheap bastards for wasting my Sunday arvo

      • yeah should fight for discrimination haha

      • I dread pricematching at OW, there's always this potential of wasting one's time. Some staff just like to make up their own pricematching rules as they go along, when it's all there in black and white on the website.

      • Hm, you said you were in still school, but I'm only 18 (recent grad) and they still gave it so I guess you needed to be a bit more firm? XD

        • I never told them that I was in school, ummm maybe my over protective mum gave it away haha. But yeah I'm gonna take it up their alley once I can get vietbargain to post up the receipt. Or else I'm taking this all the way to the ACCC or Fair Trading or whatever (I might need some tips on that :D haha)

  • Hi guys .. wanting some storage for a while now. The price definitely looks sweet. how has the drive gone for the ones who are using it now? any pros/cons?
i called up OW in highpoint and they say they will pricematch if i have the exact model number on the catalogue.. another lame story by the staff i guess?

  • +2

EVERYONE. If you get crap like postage calculations or not matching due to being interstate, show them this.
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/lowest-price-gu…

    It's THEIR lowest price guarantee.
It states that they will match the price on:
"All identical products and services that are stocked at Officeworks."

There is nothing about calculating postage costs, unless they're trying to make you believe MLN is an online store, which is true - there would be postage costs if it was an online store, but IT ISNT.

    MLN store locations - https://www.mln.com.au/info/?type=location

    Hope it helps.

    • +1 astroe, thank you. I have done exactly that actually, printed out their price match fine print and I am going to shove it in their face if they don't come to the party! The only condition is that it has to be in stock so they can call up to check that, but they should not be adding delivery fees.

      • If you REALLY want to make a point about it, call the store right in-front of them. I actually did this when the guy said "Oh I called 5 minutes ago and they don't have stock". When I called they said they had stock, so they MUST have miraculously restocked or something. LOL.

I rubbed it in going "You can use my phone to call if you'd like. :)"

a word of warning, perhaps call MLN right before you step in the store, incase they actually ARE out of stock. :p I wouldn't mind looking cheap, but not cheap to the point I'd resort to lying HAHA.

        • Good tip, thanks :)

    • A quote from that page:

      What about online stores?

Identical products are price matched against online stores but as with any other kind of store, the item must be currently in stock. When price matching online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery. If the identical product can be purchased and delivered via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%.

      • MLN is not an online store, it's B&M.

        • They have a storefront, but they're pricematching against the online prices (as you can order online)

          • @MiCCAS: I called them and asked if they can post the HDD to me in Adelaide, they said no, it's a walk-in-store deal only.

    • Showed them that and they still refused because MLN are interstate… Plus they also pulled the "let me get the manager and come back after 5mins saying we rang the store there was no stock, without the manager ever coming out."

  • MLN are out of stock :(

  • I GOT IT as today Thurs 10/6/10, 1.30pm at OW glebe infront of SydUni Sydney
ofcoz the guy tried to say no but i showed him 2 invoices from brisbane, but then the manager said "only 1 per person perday" "you can come again 2morow"
what is that? anyway, got 1
    Thanks!
    @trance n dance => try OW glebe :)

  • went to mln west melb and they had sold out so they offered me the iomega prestige 500G for same price. it has the sturdy metal case so i bought it.

    • "plus" in my opinion for mln
any other mln stores have stock?

    • tell them to advertise that iomega so we can price match again here in syd

  • sorry if this has been brought up, but does anyone know if you can use this to play thru the various DVD players with a USB port?

    • Ive tried to with my Allure Blu-ray player but no joy. Although i did read that if you re-format it to FAT32 it will work. Havnt done it yet so i dont know, but hope to over the weekend. Hope that helps but if anyone else knows different please share : )

      • Well ive done it and formated it to FAT32 using this program: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm Ive copied files to it and plays them thru my Allure's USB with no problems so far. Many thanks to Venu for the link in his post at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/24411?page=1.

        • Hmmm spoke too soon!! Just found out that FAT32 drives have a file limitation of 4GB which means a lot of my Blu-ray rips wont transfer to my HDD. Looks like ill have to format it back to its original NTFS format but that means it wont play thru my USB : ( But if your files are under 4GB then this will do for you.

          • @sk1ppy: You might have luck using a Linux format like EXT2 or maybe EXT3. Most of these cheap player devices use a linux OS. You can get EXT2/3 drivers for windows so it still shows up as a drive like normal.

        • yes, FAT32 does have this problem. i use DVD rips (from my own original dvd) on my external hard drive, so i have no issues. For blu ray rips, i prefer to plug up my laptop directly via hdmi.

A solution for you may involved splitting the file into blu ray rip file into three (or however many) to be under 4gb. A hassle, yes. But tell me if you do come up with a better solution with your usb. i would like to know. :)

  • Bought the HDD from Officeworks @ Chadstone, VIC.
I bet I wasn't the first one requesting this price. They just took my word for it and sold to me one for $65.55
Thanks to OzBargain and asik28 personaly!

I went to East Vic Park (WA) on Saturday, they had run out of stock but the guy knew about the deal and was happy t price match IF they had stock. Then went to Osborne Park and the guy made a fuss about the 'shipping' charge, so I asked to speak to the manager -> he came out and said the same thing, and I kicked up a fuss saying that EVERY officeworks is under the same policy and if one store is happy to do it then EVERY store has to do it. He rang head office and they said, yep do the price match. They didn't check MLN for stock, and I bought 2 :)

  • Got this price matched at OW with the bonus 5% off too, got 2 by the way. Didn't have to take anything in either, the lady just looked on MLN's site!

  • Is that right that they have run out of stock? Was willing to push OW to price match in brisbane, aspley or windsor, oh well……

  • I know this deal has been on for a while now and i dont know when it finishes but yeah i got a pricematch at the fairfield west store NSW,

its pretty funny to tell you the truth….i used their computers there as its a fairly new store so theres computers and coffee there, so my gf made a coffee and i showed them some receipts from other officeworks stores from this page….as well as the mln thing…

whats fail is on my receipt it says price match with "emalen.com.au" which i dont think is even a website…but yeah….thought that was pretty funny..

to think i was almost gonna pay 79bucks for the 320 today….

again i also advise people to avoid liverpool NSW when the old lady manager with the ginger hair is there…
she will tell you how hard she tried…after going to the back for a while and all that jazz…so yeah…=]

  • this deal finishes in 4 days, I suggest anyone wanting a portable HDD for awhile now should grab it asap, I know I needed one for a long time so I might grab it tomorrow since OW is 5 mins away :D
