Here ya go Queenslanders / Brisbanians.
        Go the Maroons

        http://upload.ozbargain.com/2010/06/03/3895_ow_seagate500gig…

        • Thanks for your receipt StevieRay. Young girl at Loganholme was gonna charge me extra for shipping till i showed her your receipt and decided not to then : ) Go the Mighty Maroons!!

          • @sk1ppy: Hi Sk1ppy, I went to Loganholme OW today, the guy refused to give it to me because MLN is not a Brisbane business and he wants to charge me $29 for postage because that's what MLN had for notebook postage. I was quite disappointed by that. When I showed StevieRay's receipt, he said he needed the original and not a printout and the printout didn't have any dates on it. Might have to try the CBD one tomorrow.

            • +1

@geek001: Thats bad luck mate and total BS on that guys part! I can meet you at Loganholme with my receipt if you like? I'll be passing there tomorrow about 4pm. Its no trouble. Anything to help out a fellow ozbargainer : )

              • @sk1ppy: That's alright mate. Thanks for offering but I won't be able to make it, I live in Parkinson and works in the city. I normally won't be home till about 6.30pm. This is the first time I have tried to get price matching at any retailer, maybe I just need to learn the right thing to say/do. I have given you a +1 vote, is that what people normally do?

                • @geek001: Hey mate - print out the price match policy from the website and take it in there - demand that you get it pricematched :)

  • Went to OfficeWorks Chadstone and the tech guy there was very helpful. He called MLN to check for the model and as soon as he received the confirmation he sold me one at the $65.55. They still have like 10 left in stock if anyone interested.

    • Haha I bought it there. The HM must be thinking why everyone's choosing OW to buy them

      • Me too. Who was first? I got mine around 6:45pm tonight.

        • I was there at 5:30 :) Guessed I was the first one as they had to ring up MLN

  • I bet OW will have 'em at $69 tomorrow (in VIC anyway).

    • +7

If so, I hope people will just buy it from MLN instead. Without them this deal would not exist!

      • +2

I would've, but no MLN in WA.

  • Great Price! Thanks!

  • I just bought 2 from OfficeWorks in WA for $65.55 each.

They matched it (less 5%) no problems.

    • which officeworks did you go to mate?

      • The East Perth one. Close to Graham Farmer Fwy.

Good luck. The shop assistant was really friendly.

  • +1

Man this deal came at the right time. I'm really happy I didn't miss out. Thanks a lot OP. Really really appreciate this.

  • got one, great find. +

  • wish me luck im going to OW sydney this afternoon

  • i picked up two last night, they said that "as it's not sold in SA, they have to take into conscideration the postage cost" since he couldn't buy this model online, he went by another drive and it was 9$ shipping … still, $74.10 is a lot cheaper than other model's … so i grabbed two (one for the neighbours so they stop grabbing my other portable drives)

    • nah, for me if i cant get it by $65.5 i wont buy. if i need space maybe will delete my old 640*800 res movies :(
      nothin can beat 1080p movies!

  • +2

Just price matched in Frankston OW. $65.55. They had to check on the web site and call. Took some time to explain how to bring it up on the web site.

Pulled the drive appart to find it contains a standard 2.5" laptop sata HD + Sata=>USB board. USB board slips of to leave you with a standard drive. Looks like the Xbox360 20GB drive is getting a upgrade today !

  • +1

awesome deal! just got nearly a dozen of them!

  • +1

Thanks for a great bargain! I picked one up from the OW on Russell St. They have removed the drives from the shelf, but there were about 10-15 left in the locked cupboard when the OW guy got mine about an hour ago. I didn't even need to show the print out - they had already had 2 people in today requesting the MLN price match. Thanks again :)

  • Priced matched $65.55 at OW Burleigh Heads - Gold Coast with printed catalog printout photo from andrew81 (cheers)

Big, heavily tattooed guy served me and I was thinking, great, here we go! But he didn't bat an eyelid, glanced at the printout & marched me straight up to the counter and told checkout chick to price match it. She then happily explained that she would need to take an extra 5% off because that's their price match policy.

So all round great buying experience thx asik28 & OW

  • very good i tried today at carnegie officework and the technical man said"i really want 1 for me too " :))

    • lol same thing happened to me on commercial rd. The guy's jaw dropped when he found out the price and was like - You'd better not buy all of them, I want one too…

  • CAN NOT DO THIS AT OW SYDNEY CBD CLARENCE ST
They said MLN have no stock anymore.. even if MLN have, since they are in Melb, i must add that 69$ with shipping cost from vic to nsw.
how come some1 from QLD can get $65 from there?

    • how come some1 from QLD can get $65 from there?

Depend on luck, some operators easy, some aren't.

      • yup, make sense. so any1 from sydney can get it $65.50 ?? i will try 1 more OW store here

        • Yeah. Not happy.
"They aren't from NSW, so once you factor in shipping, the price would be well over $99"
Yeah BS mate. And annoyed so many other OW are matching.. Will try one more..

People getting the matched price from OW in Sydney, can you list which stores you're getting it from?

          http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/Lowest-Price-Gu…
Nothing there says anything about the shop being inter-state.
As MLN have retail branches there is no reason they shouldn't price match.

          • @Draxxx: Ring the 1300 OW number, they told me no state/distance restriction on PM

            • @cooperdog: I rang them this morning, they reckon they have no stock of this hdd. They also told me that they are a separate business from the OW B&M stores. Lady also said that you can't place a pricematched order now as they don't have stock…what difference that makes I have no idea.

  • MLN are definately not out of stock, got mine there today (office works wouldnt price match last night after MLN close up shop at like 6pm or something)

    • yeah the lady is liar. i called mln too just now.

      • yeah and some operators being lazy too!

  • +3

I called MLN in Richmond VIC 2 days ago, they advised they're waiting for hundreds units to be delivered. So for those who missed out you , try to call MLN.

$69 is still cheap and it is a BIG credit to MLN who make this deal exist!
thanks for everyone's votes and have a great weekend, guys!! ^_^

  • now the big question is when mln can open shop in sydney. surely they will beat msy

  • I just tried OW in Morley and they wouldn't price match.

They said that OW terms of interstate price matching are that the interstate store with the special price has to also have an online store so that OW Morley can add the shipping cost to MLN's price and then minus 5%.

    Bugger!

  • Just tried the OW at North Sydney, and the guy was almost waiting for me to bring it to the price match counter. His first question was "Are you price matching to ml-something?" And I was like yea.

I then showed him both mln's offer and a prev receipt to which he even more vigorously said that it was an error on the part of OW to issue such claims, and told me he could do it for this one. He also said they dont ship to sydney and that it was a walk in offer.

Overall, it was a disappointing trip to OW.

    • Maybe they all receive an email from head office.

    • thanks, i was thinigking to go to NorthSy tonight…

  • Will this work with the old PS3 as a replacement HDD?

    • Yes

      • Thanks ragflan!!!

  • thanks for this deal! just got one from OW doncaster, guy didn't need to check it as someone else had bought 3 earlier today.

  • Awesome deal. Thanks asik28. Went to OW in Dandenong. Got them even cheaper at $61.75 each. Anyone else going there must ask for them as none are on the shelves.

  • i think next time MLN have sale, price matching is only available to VIC residents…

    • Don't worry erwin. These deals come all the time, i'm sure a better one would come to NSW very soon. Besides these Seagate aren't very well made anyways. Mine makes a clicking sound whenever I lightly press down on the enclosure.

  • +2

just bought 2 in gosford. He said they dont usually match interstate deals and postage to nsw is $29. but its friday, and its your lucky day. haha

    • got them both for $65.55

  • I got the last one in Bris CBD OW this morning but still got the lip service about not matching interstate. Had to pay $69 cause i was late for work and didnt have time to ark up about the extra 5%

    • Who did you get to serve you? I went there around 5pm and a guy named Andrew price matched it, although it did seem like he knew about the deal and wasn't exactly too happy (or he was just really busy).

Got it for $65.55, and a mate got one too.

      • sorry, not sure who it was. A guy walked me over from the tech section and made a big deal about it being the last one (9am on Friday). I presented the printout to the checkout woman and thats where she gave me the interstate story. I'll try my luck on Tuesday for another one.

  • +2

OW at Ferntree Gully, VIC came up with the excuse that it was different to the MLN drive, that theres was 2" and not 2.5" and that head office advised not to price match. Is that even true? Havent heard of 2" drives. Is this a case for fair trading?

    • +2

      Wtf… Now that's just dodgy.

    • well i rhink… there are two different types of 500gb hhd on the shelf… i was questioning that other box when i went into store, but the guy said that its a different model or something… not the one that MLN was selling… supposedly sold out of the MLN ones

      http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…

      vs

      http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…

    • I got one from OW Ferntree Gully last no problems, at about 4pm they had about 5 $99 Expansion drives on the shelf, maybe the FreeAgent Go model is 2" @ $149.

      • I went in at about 6pm. They still had $99 ones and was for that they said this. He did mention that they price matched the day before but stopped after head office advised that it was different.

  • +1

staff are meant to double check MLN to see if they have stock… + also to add in freight charges to something that is from interstate… i guess some O/W staff are just too lazy to get into a racket with customers about the pricing, coz they don't get paid commissions anyway…so that creates the inconsistent pricing… hahaha… lucky to those that got it i went and tried @ the Glen waverley store but they are out of stock

    • They had about 10 left on the shelf at GW after I got 2 on the 3rd. Maybe they put them out the back.

      • went in today again and got my hhd @ glen waverley, staff were helpful, but some were confused in regards to be able to price match it or not because supposedly some MLN stores were out of stock and o/w were not able to price match upon those grounds. But eventually found one store that has stock and got my price match. Staff were telling me that they know of this promo, but then supposedly the head office double checks their price matches… so staff can only do it if MLN have stock… or staff get into trouble

  • Price matched at Nunawading OW their price is $99 Think they had about 1 or 2 left.

sentinel didnt you have a problem getting that linksys media hub price matched too… drive a bit further to Nunawading they are fantastic for price matches and so are doncaster and glen waverley…

  • the price is still valid till July 18th, I wonder if Office Works will restock their shelves?

  • +2

Anyone in NSW bought the hard drive at $65, could you pls post your receipt? I went to west ryde OW, they said they don't match price with interstate stock.

  • +1

Price matched at OW Epping VIC but had a hard time with this b1tch called Chris who didn't look happy about price matching MLN. she insisted that on their stock packaging it is labelled USB2.0 but on the MLN printout, it says 2.5" so they are different kind. I tried to explain to her but she still didn't get it so I said how about you asked one of your sales tech coz I was wasting my time with her.

    • +2

lol… so she didn't believe you when you told her 2.5" refers to the physical size of the hdd and USB2.0 is the type of I/O port?

      • +4

That was exactly what I tried to explain to her but she insisted theirs is 2.0" drive and the MLN is 2.5". GOLD!

    • this made my day.

    • +1

Size is all that matters to her!

  • Got one price matched at Loganholme, Qld. Thanks asik28 for highlighting this great deal!

  • OW Hornsby, NSW refused to match or even calculate price + shipping :(

  • +2

Good deal, can also see it as follows on Lasoo (for all states).

    http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/portable-hard-drives/seagate-p…

Whenever I have showed stores the Lasoo catalog they have always accepted it for me.

    • +1

I see lots of HDD advertised but no Seagate 500GB for this price so how would Lasoo be any good for this offer??

EDIT: Ah i see it now that ive entered postcode 3000 in. Sorry. Good find!

  • Excellent deal… Got one from Officeworks in Yarraville for $65.55 :)

  • My local OW here in Brisbane price matched the $65.55 (thanks to StevieRay's receipt scan) and took 5% off that, reducing it to $62.27. Only showed the receipt scan.

    http://upload.ozbargain.com/2010/06/05/3907_img_0194.jpg

    • Hi pewpew how did you got it for $62.27? looks like they price matched with other OW store…

      • +1

Haha lets pass this around the country and see how low we can push OW to pricematch their own stores.

        • Oops. Sorry for negging your comment. I'm doing this from my phone and it hit neg instead of pos. And now it wont let me change it!

  • very funny. how come all (maybe) OW in NSW sydney didnt do pricematch on this.
btw, look the OW price on the shelf.. $99 ~! and JBH is $119 !
who said margin for electronic is small ? this bigstores giant is trying to rip ppl off
cant believe how MLN can get million of stock of this HD with probably $50 each haha

    • Probably a special deal to clear out old backed up stock or something. At this price the margin woul dbe extremely small as this is cheaper than just the drive by itself.

  • Considering that all the OW branches trade under the same ABN, does that mean they're all the same "store", which means if a store up in Brisbane price matches this, doesn't that give precedent for all other stores to pricematch.

And if they don't who do we contact to get OW's butt kicked, cause there is nowhere in the pricematching policy does it say they won't pricematch a retail store that's interstate. Nor does it say that to pricematch a retail store that is not accessbile you have to add in delivery costs. Delivery costs is only added for online shops which this is not, MLN is a retail shop with a website, just like Dick Smith and OW themselves.

Edit: Went to Punchbowl (Sydney) store, no luck, they said blah blah about postage and how MLN are interstate, they "got" the manager (he never showed up), then came back 5mins later after ringing MLN saying that MLN had no stock anyway so they can't pricematch. They also didn't address why Brisbane got a pricematch.

  • +1
  • I got it for the $65.55 at a Sydney OW store. :)
I came very prepared and they were like to me "Oh we called them 5 minutes ago and they said they were out of stock so no" and then I was like, "I just called them, they said they were", then I called again. The guys at the store called but no-one would pick up so he was like, just take it.

HAHA. He didn't look too happy but it isn't my problem I am just exercising my right as a consumer to use their competitive 5% off discount programs.

    • Lucky.
Receipt please :D I might give it another shot tomorrow after school.
And which store did you try?

      • yeah me too~ which Sydney OW ?

      • lol school. :)

        • I got it from the Villawood/Guildford store, the one on Woodville Road with Bing Lee. I think they call themselves "Fairfield East" although that's pushing it HAHA.

Soz, the receipt got wet, I'll scan it when I can.
Sneakily, the receipt says the reason for price match was 'mlc', nothing else. :S

          • @astroe: villawd, too far for me ! but below comment from xyshiau said about auburn.
i might go there on weekend or lunchbreak

  • Hi guys

Picked one up at Office Works, Windsor, QLD got it for $74.50. They have added $9 postage anyways happy for the price I got. Thanks

  • Pricematched by Officeworks Milton QLD (ended up $69) - great deal

  • Got one too … Thanx to the poster
Does anyone here have any ideas how to open the case & take the HDD out ?
No screws anywhere … how do I open this ?

edit: had to pry it open, just get a small flat screwdriver , insert it at the top (use fingernails to get to the gap), and twist the screwdriver
keep doing that for each end, and it'll be open in no time

  • +1

    a positive from me,

    sydney auburn honored it!

  • Staff at Officework will tell you they ran out. Possibly because they are too lazy to look or take them too much time. I went to one and one staff claims no stock. As I walked out, one staff came from the store room with 3.

  • Has anyone managed to get one from Marion SA store?
I tried to order it over the phone with OW and they didn't have any stock in their warehouse, I said how about take my order and send it whenever you have stock…nope can't do that! idiots…

  • keep in mind, opening up the case will void that 2 year warranty!

  • OW bankstown all good (Y)
