Switched to OneNote, it is free and quite comparable !

    • same here

    • They aren't very similar as note taking applications.

Google Keep is more similar which is free in exchange for your attention being sold without you being asked aka ads.

Of course you can just block all the ads and it's still free.

    • Really, really different for anything beyond completely basic notes that you could do with anything.

    • I switched too (importing 1300+ notes from Evernote) but OneNote seems to be poor at syncing across devices. Some take days to sync, others immediately, others not at all. Many similar reports on forums. I don't know how to fix it. Evernote always synced within seconds.

      • This. Probably the biggest complaint for people switching from Evernote.

OneNote seems to have to sync the entire Notebook file with every sync, which means it's not very fast (and sometimes not at all, e.g. on Mobile if you close the app and the background process doesn't have enough time to complete the upload).

This deal was not originally open to Aussies (edu.au). I raised this about a month ago in their forums and they confirmed it: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/98202-2016-back-to-sch…

It's possible they've since expanded to include us. Can anyone confirm?

The email states "including those with country codes, such as edu.au or ac.nz" so I assume valid for us now!

      • Awesome! :)

  • I pity the poor investors that put their money into Evernote. They're trying so hard to get money but very few will pay for a note taking app

    • If they added features like shared folders which people have been requesting, people and companies might actually want to pay for it. They insist tags are the way to go. As usual companies think they know more than their users, but they are wrong. Features are very inconsistent between the different supported platforms. The interface is horrendous too, they removed scroll bars from the Windows client, so if you don't have a scroll mouse or touch screen you can't view all your notes!

Evernote is almost useless without folders. Tags are not folders. I tried using it, but with no work/home/study/personal separation, it's just a jumble of everything mixed together. Trying to tag work stuff so it doesn't appear amongst my personal stuff was a losing battle. If you have a main job, a side job, study, hobbies and friends, there's no way to easily and consistently separate all the notes. Every new note automatically goes into the same notebook, which you then have to manually tag. Ridiculous.

  • Do they have a trial of the premium version? It's so rarely worth it for premium versions (the exception being spotify).

They crippled the free version with a 2-device limit, so if you've got a desktop, a laptop, a tablet and a phone, then you're juggling so much it's not worth it.

I switched to WizNote. Almost identical to Evernote. The only thing import failed was handling links which are not named their URLs. Meanwhile OneNote import was a mess and the program chugged at handling my ~3000 notes.

    Evernote is shit.

  • Hmmm my edu recently expired (post uni)… what to do :(

  • Anyone know if it is possible to downgrade your premium account?
My annual renewal is in May 2017 so it would still be cheaper if I signed up as a new customer using my edu address. However I would then have my notes across 2 accounts.

    • you can export from old and import to new.
