Have got the Soniq 55" tv
It's colours are badly washed out meaning reds, in particular, are 'blotchy'.
TV takes an inordinate amount of time to start up.
    Wifi apps are useless
Only use it as a tv for my outdoor patio while lying on the couch - call it a 'first world excess'. Being bright outside hides the colour washout.

    • Tried tone it?

      https://www.cnet.com/how-to/beyond-basic-tv-settings/

Also the outdoor environments demand “strong” TV setting. All the “noise lighting” interferes with TV projection. Yes you will lose some details with strong tone. It is why cinemas are dark.

      • It's only a cheap tv, so the colour & contrast adjustments are pretty average.
For reference, I paid $5,000 for the top end plasma in 2010 - Panasonic VT20
I intend spending $10,000 when 85" UHD OLEDs come under this price - probably 2019/20.
The TV is what it is - just minimise expectations.

  • Do you need a 4k compatible receiver to run the 4k bluray?

    • +1

No it'll just work to your limitations.

    • +2

A non 4K AVR will only pass 1080p video.
However that 4K Blu-ray player has 2 HDMI outputs, run one direct to 4K TV, run second to AVR for sound.

  • Which one is better - Samsung Player or Xbox One S?

    • +3

Well, the Xbox lets you play games, but the Samsung Player would be less fuss if you're just looking for bluray playback.

The Xbox One S does not support bitstreaming of HD Audio such as DTS-HD/DTS:X/Dolby Atmos/TrueHD if that makes a difference.

If you Click and Collect the Samsung TV from The Good Guys for $3295 you can claim a $354 Eftpos card and get an additional $100 to spend in store when you pick it up.

    • +1

Risky, as its a one day promotion. Depends how fast tgg process it.

    • +2

Price is now $2995 and you still get the $100 voucher. Bargain.

  • Anyone know which series this samsung 70" belongs to ?

    • +1

      According to the product link:

      Series 6 70 inch KU6000 UHD LED~ TV*
      UA70KU6000WXXY

Trying to decide if this is worth jumping in on or to wait for a decent bargain on something OLED…

    • Bit late now but the 2016 model LG 70uh635t was $2716 last week at the good guys. It had HDR also, may be better than this TV.

  • What are peoples thoughts on the Samsung UHD player? I'm a new owner of an LG C6 OLED TV and in the market for a UHD player but I've seen some suggestions that the much more expensive Panasonic player has better video quality.

    • +1

I very much doubt that video quality would vary between players.

    • Even i am waiting for panasonic hdr player to be under $500 ;)

  • The LG K10 seems like a decent phone for $249 and an alternative to some of the Chinese models on offer.

Anyone know if the second sim is 2G or 3G/4G capable?

This has the B28 band and would have local warranty a plus.

  • Tempted on 70"
    Worth the money bargainers?

    4k Blu ray pricing…
Looks like X One S has put pressure on pricing to go down for other brands.

    • even more so now that the PS4 Pro has just been announced for RRP$569.

I predict that standalone 4k bluray players will average $200-250 by End of Year!!

now just waiting for the 4k bluray discs themselves to drop to around $30 per movie!! shouldn't be long hopefully. haha…

      • PS4 Pro will not support 4K/UHD blueray disc. Only regular blueray and DVD. They will however support 4K streaming like netflix and youtube. PS4 also supports 4K gaming IN HDR.

        • yeah, I just read a similar article about no 4k Bluray support either. apparently it might become available in a future firmware update. seems so strange why the support isn't included @ initial release. Daft move by Sony there!

        • @genes888:

          Xbox S doesn't support 4k audio formats either http://4k.com/news/despite-4k-hdr-no-dolby-vision-atmos-dire…

        • @genes888: fingers crossed, unless there is a hardware limitation

  • +1

Samsung TV is $2 cheaper at Harvey Norman.

    • Gotta love competition although for some reason HN Don't advertise price drops, They are mad

  • +1

The best part about this deal is the TV screen image of Mauritius which is where I'm going on holidays courtesy of another OzBargain deal!

Motion rate of Samsung KU6000 70 is specified as 100 - not good enough for watching sport IMHO.

    • I doubt they would make a TV If it couldn't handle things like sport, like with all TV's it's best to compare them in store, it does have advanced sports mode but don't know if that helps. I have a 50Hz & a 100Hz in my home and watch bulk footy & I don't notice any difference but that's just me :)

      • Thank you Trent. I recently compared Samsung and LG 100Hz UHD TVs in HN showing free to air NRL to the picture I get at home with my 2013 200Hz HD Panasonic. The Panny picture of the same live sport is noticeably sharper :-)

        • Panasonic have really stepped up their game over the last few years, this yrs models look amazing! plus the litle extras like Anytime TV Is so cool

  • I do not need a TV until January 2017. Do I wait ? Or buy now?

    • Wait for Christmas and end of year specials

    • Yeah def wait till post XMas sales

  • Wasn't 4K blu-ray players about $1000 when they first came out months ago?. That's a huge drop in price in such a short amount of time. In a year these will probably be about $200 or less every day. It just shows do not buy new tech like this on release day you just get majorly ripped off.

    • The rumour was Samsung player would be $1000 but it pretty much hit $599 upon release…still a big drop especially as Panasonic just released their 4K player for a whopping $899…I think Sammy is just sliding the knife slowly into Panasonic and giving them a reality check;

  • Looks like the Samsung UBD-K8500 4K HDR Blu-Ray Player has jumped from $296 (Save $180) to $596. Is it cheaper in store?

  • Damn, anyone who bought the Samsung K8500 UHD blu-ray player got a great deal. Its been ~$600 at most retailers including JB since this deal ended Sept 16.

Cheapest I can find it now is $415 delivered from SecondsWorld, or $450 from VideoPro. $296 is a crazy cheap price (till more products come to market to push the price down).
