      • +2

        QUEENSLANDERRRRRRR!!

    • +5

Yet you haven't posted a deal for any of them?

    • +1

He is right. This maybe cheap for Coles, but most decent local QLD fruit shops are cheaper. Got a tray (18 punnets) for $10 the other day. There seems to be a glut of strawberries here at the moment.

      • I didn't mean (I do not know) if he was wrong.

This is Ozbargain. We have people from all over the country on here, so even if he was correct, it was unnecessary to say that with such attitude.

Sometimes it's not even about whether you're right or wrong. It's about how you say it!

  • +2

Also at aldi is 500 grams for $2. I'm not sure when it ends but it was this price tonight

    • +1

      That ends this tuesday coming

      Australian Strawberries 250gm $1 @ Coles (Australia) 10th & 11th Sept (in store only)

      • He might mean these are for QLD Stores only since they are QLD Strawberries :) Hopefully it's nationwide :)

  • add 1kg of strawberries and 1kg sugar (with pectin) boil for 4 minutes.
    Strawberry jam for everyone.

    • +2

You won't need pectin with these strawberries…

    • Only use .002 ESP units of pectin

  • +1

Finally a bargain at Coles even though they were cheaper at Aldi

  • Well if you don't live near a vegetable market this is a nice deal.

  • +2

It was last weekend as well.

They had the $1 250g Strawberries sign above 350g strawberries, which were NOT $1.

Dirty trick, so be careful out there.

    • +1

Take a photo and put on social media. They won't be happy with that store

    • +2

It's not a dirty trick, it's an innocent mistake… Not to mention if you complained they'd probably give it to you for free anyway.

  • +1

I haven't found all these strawberries on sale recently to be ripe and sweet or may be I was unfortunate one. They are small and sour. I tried different stores but no luck.

    • +1

      same here

  • -1

Must be getting rid of last yrs stock

  • Apparently the first batch of the season is reliably sweet. These will be hit and miss

  • Wow the top deal for over 12 hours. I always worry that a day will come without bargains but the community always blows me away

  • just grabbed a box, a mountain of strawberries at my local
saw at least 3-4 different brands/suppliers too
just went with the one that looked the freshest

  • Hmmm it's 3 for $5 at Footscray Coles

    • Same here in Anzac Highway Coles (SA) 3 for $5

      • Same, I went down to my local coles (VIC) and they were 3 for $5 (they did have the $1 strawberries, cos lettuce etc last weekend though, so not complaining!)

  • +2

Recently I bought some strawberries from Coles. Yes the fruits are big, red, fresh and cheap. But I feel the taste is quite plain. On the other hand I got some from Harries Farm which is similar price but smaller and tastier. Not sure what they put into the fertiliser to raise these fruits. Have the Aussies farmers learnt all the sneaky tricks from the Chinese? Remember the time when I ate some Chinese water melon which is big, red, attractive looking and cheap but totally tasteless.

    • Probably GMO crops

      • It has nothing to do with GMO and has nothing to do with the Chinese. Most people in the West still choose fruit on looks above taste. Farmers therefore selectively breed the fruit/use big red varieties to make them look nicer, which compromises the taste.

    • +1

oddly enough the best strawberries I tried were from Shanghai, although they weren't very large at all, but the flavour was amazing.
I find Australian strawberries very tasteless, with the odd exceptions.

    • strawberries are in season at the moment, so farmers are trying to make the most of their harvest by picking as many strawberries as they can so they can grow new batches. so its best to let them ripen further because most of them will be barely ripe when picked.

  • I got some from woolies last week. The cheaper ones weren't sweet at all. Not bad but not great either. You get what you pay for.

  • +1

    Not in WA. it seems!!

  • +1

Caroline Springs store said they had that special last week and wasnt available today or tomorrow. Same as above 3 for 5 seemed to be the best price

  • +1

Went as soon as the store opened and brought 9 of them….also there were kiwifruits 4 for $1, spring onions were $1, sweetcorn 3 for $1 oh and watermelon $1/kg!!! My eyes were so big i had to buy abit of everything!!!! Finally cheap fruit!!! No excuse to eat junk food!!! :)

    • I bought all the junk food because the Strawberries were 3 for $5, Watermelon was $1.60 per kg, Bananas a loopy $3.90. At Coles Southland you don't get the deals :(

      • +1

Thats not cool, its not fair that the deals not nationwide!!

  • +2

Also of note, kiwis were 4 for $1, and massive balls of lettuce were $1 each.

    • +1

Great! Make sure you come buy some more tomorrow. Sunday will be the last day!

  • +1

This is not nationwide, I was just in a Coles in Perth and they are $1.40 a punnet.

Also, we don't have any QLD grown strawberries here, they are all grown locally.

    • +1

I bought some of these this morning

Had some after lunch. They were taseless

      • I got some from a fruit & veg shop outside Woolies for $1.99 per 500g punnet.
Bought 6 of them, 3 of them have been chopped and are currently in the dehydrator.

They make great snacks to keep in the office draw, I love buying up big when they are cheap.

The taste seems okay so far, it's quite concentrated after you remove all of the water from them so they are sweeter than usual once dried.

  • our local fruit and veg guy has punnets for 65cents.
    southport park.

  • If you're in Victoria, south Eastern suburbs - pop down to Dandenong market (open Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Friday). Grabbed 500g strawberries for $1 today and by the end of the day they were going for $5 for 7 punnets.

  • +2

It may not be nationwide but Coles in Randwick has them for $1as per this post.

  • The offer is available in the ACT. And as mentioned, Aldi has 500g for $2 this week (which they also had a couple of weeks ago).

  • +1

This was definitely not a QLD-only price.

I only went to one store (Burwood NSW) and it was $1 on the weekend. I also received the email about it and I'm sure they have my location as NSW.
