Doesn't seem like a bad deal if you're okay with wearing novelty contacts.

Just one thing, this shouldn't be tagged as a freebie if you have to pay shipping. You should also put $5 shipping in the title.

  • +3

Is it just me, or are these things really spooky?

  • +3

Thanks Marlboro Man. I've added $5 shipping to the title.

  • I'd buy these if they came with a prescription. I wear contacts every day as it is. It's a shame I can't wear these ones (I don't see the point in contacts & glasses!)

Thanks for posting though. Good deal.

  • do you get the contacts case with these too ?

    • Apparently.

"EVERY Contact Lens Pair comes with a free lens case"

It looks crazy too! (I only have the boring white/greenish cases you get from Optifree or whatever)

    • Don't forget to buy disinfecting solution too.

  • +2

    are they safe?
Ive always wanted to try them but have read bad stories about novelty contact lenses.

    • +4

Hi theguyrules. We've been in business for the last four years and have strongly promote a safe and hygenic product. We have sold thousands of contacts over this time.

As long as you soak your contact lenses in solution and wash your hands before and after applying, you will always be able to wear coloured contacts. You should always consult an optometrist if you are having issues and especially if you have had vision or eye problems in the past.

Yes they do come with a free case as well.

      • Awesome!
I ordered a pair and can't wait to try them.

They're once only things aren't they?

        • Esther are comfortable to wear and can be worn for a period of 90 days.

^— Appears to be 90 day ones :)

  • i would risk my eyes to try this!!

    • Make sure you follow ALL safety procedures if you're going to really use it. I've had problems and its not nice at all

    • +3

I study optometry in uni. Seriously, follow the precautions. Make sure you clean that shit. You can get some nasty looking stuff if you don't do it properly. That's if you can see it for yourself :P

    • Nice, trying out the grey lenses

  • what is the contact lens made out of?

  • +1

I think anyone should firstly check the quality of this lens, particularly on the manufacturing process. The site claims to have ISO certification for the production but other than that you do not have the quality and hygienic confidence that you get with other branded lenses.

  • YES time to be the one people look at freakishly on the streeet!

  • +6

Ok, I joined up just to comment on this.

First of all, I would NOT trust the site at all. There is a bit of misleading information on the page linked to from this bargain.

    e.g

"They are a breakthrough in disposable colour contact lenses and are made from newly developed Hydrogel material which prevents damage to the cornea."

Hydrogel materials have been around since the 1980s. They do NOT prevent damage to the cornea. As a matter of fact, wearing contact lenses of any type puts you more at risk of corneal damage as compared to not wearing contact lenses.

"Esther is remarkably comfortable on eyes as a result of excellent oxygen permeability."

I'm assuming "Esther" is the contact lens material or brand. Hydrogel contact lenses do NOT let in as much oxygen as newer SILICON HYDROGEL materials. Describing the oxygen permeability as "excellent" is misleading at best.

"You do not require a prescription to purchase Esther contact lenses from www.CrazyContacts.com.au."

This is true. In Australia you can sell contact lenses which are non-prescription without the need for fitting or eye exams. However, as outlined by the youtube clip found at the bottom of the page linked to in this bargain titled "How to Care for your Contact Lenses" a few keys points are brought up:

"You should not get contact lenses from anyone who is not an actual professional"
"You should not go to a non-conventional supplier of contacts"
"You shouldn't get contact lenses withotu a prescription"
"You shouldn't get them off the internet without a prescription because that lens has not been fitted for your eye properly"

Keep in mind this came from a link at the bottom of the vendors own page!

It seems like the site is selling contact lenses and making money from you at your eye health's expense. They don't know anything about contact lenses, eye health or safety when wearing contact lenses.

They don't even sell the appropriate cleaning solution on the site!

I think there is another optometrist who frequents ozbargain who can confirm the above.

Ok. Rant is over for now.

    PS. GO SOCCEROOS!

    • +1

I'd never wear contact lenses, but thanks for the info!

    • Umm not trying to defend this company .. but these arent prescription contacts.

I wouldnt buy contact lenses off the internet if i needed them as a replacement for glasses.

I could be wrong but who would wear novelty contacts day in day out for an extended period of time? These arent like the ordinary change your eye or help your vision contacts.

http://www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/silicone-hydrogel.htm <— interesting site discussing the above topics :)

      • +2

I know they aren't prescription contacts. However, the dangers still remain when it comes to wearing any type of contact lens. These dangers are not due to not being able to see, more so the health of the eye.

A word of advice for anyone not familiar with contact lens wear:

DO NOT WEAR THESE OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF CONTACT LENS.

Get your contacts fitted properly. Also get your eyes checked to see if they are healthy enough to wear contact lenses in the first place. If you have already purchased these contact lenses, at least get some proper disinfecting solution (do not store in tap water). Best thing would be to get your optometrist to show you how to take care of your eyes and contact lens.

Do not take advice from the vendors. Their site is full of inconsistencies (As stated above).

        Questions for bananabart:
Are you an optometrist? Opthalmologist? Or eye care professional?
Also, where do these contact lenses come from?

    • I am a rep from Contact Connection and we sell contact lenses online including contact lens solutions which you can use with all soft lenses. These are at a cost of $12 + $8 postage. Its always important that you use proper cleaning solutions to disinfect and store your lenses. This reduces the risk of infection occurring from contact lens wear which can be potentially blinding. Please make sure you always follow your optometrists directions when wearing contact lenses and you always have them properly fitted. We have an article on our site about the importance of having contact lenses fitted professionally by your eye care practitioner.

Sorry but you are using some bad arguments there.

"…wearing contact lenses of any type puts you more at risk of corneal damage as compared to not wearing contact lenses." - That's the worst type of justification there is. It's like the advertising for shampoo and conditioner where they say "in a survey of x people, 80% said they saw visible signs of increased shine" yet the condition to that is 'versus not washing at all'. Of course wearing something over your eyes puts you at more risk than not using any contact lenses.

"Describing the oxygen permeability as “excellent” is misleading at best." - What's to say there aren't other materials that would be considered poor and average, and that the silicon hydrogel ones are described as 'supreme' (for example). Esther ones would still be accurately described because they are clearly not the "best".

I just don't like marketing/advertising sneakiness to be used to warn people off. At the end of the day this company are not doing anything wrong and the onus is always on the buyer/wearer to follow all safety instructions carefully.

      • “They are a breakthrough in disposable colour contact lenses and are made from newly developed Hydrogel material which prevents damage to the cornea.”

From the vendors website. Hydrogels don't PREVENT DAMAGE to the cornea. It is a false statement used to sell the contact lens. How is my argument "bad"?

If they did PREVENT DAMAGE, why don't we wear them all the time to maintain the health of the eye?

        http://www.clspectrum.com/article.aspx?article=13020

Ok, I'll retract the statement about the oxygen if the vendor can give me the Dk/T of the contact lens AND if that Dk/T is in the "high" range described in the article.

The vendor isn't doing anything wrong (i.e. illegal) by selling these contact lenses. However, the safety information on the site is inadequate when it comes to caring for your eyes.

    Hi there

I'm the author of the post and work for CrazyContacts.com.au

As we've stated, these are NOT prescription contact lenses and obviously can be legally sold in Australia.

We promote healthy eye practises. In fact most Australians don't realise that they should get their eyes checked as often as their teeth (every 12 months).

We've also been selling to the public in Aus (and in NZ) for the last four years.

Let us know if you like them when you receive it as well.

    • Aren't you supposed to get your teeth checked every 6 months?

  • +3

If you have never worn contact before, DO NOT BUY this. And whatever you do, don't use tap water to clean the contacts

  • Health concerns aside, you really have to question the judgement of a person who would willingly wear these out in public

  • I've worn coloured and novelty contacts for years and have never had any issues.
    Big fat +1 from me

    • Lucky you! I see patients with eye problems about once every 2 weeks from online contact lens purchases. And when the Easter show was here, more often, as they were selling them at the show without disinfecting solution (they were giving out saline - salty water - for cleaning!).

We optoms bitch about it but we are here to help. Drop by your optom if you get unlucky.

  • Received mine today. great thanks

    • -1

Your eyes, what happened to your eyes????

  • I received mine and threw them out. Couldnt be bothered risking it in the end.

  • Millions around the world wear contact lenses, eye specialists would not prescribe them if they were such a danger. Yes, if your eyes hurt etc, get them checked out!!! Like everything else in our crazy world, items we eat, wear, put in our hair, brush our teeth with can hurt us…..our so called medicines are actually hurting our bodies.
ps: wear too tight jeans and you will develop Thrush….lol
