Ok this will appeal to a select few, but it's a handy way to save money at Amazon if it's something that is never discounted.

The Prime members discount requires you to be a paying Prime member, not on the free trial.

In a nutshell:

1) Set up registry, add item/s
2) Pay off registry earlier than 30 days before your selected wedding date
3) After your wedding date, you will receive an email with the voucher code. You will have 90 days to use it. It must be used on items sold and delivered by Amazon.

  • What's the catch here? Is there anything stopping me from creating a $1 wedding registry then using the discount on junk I want?

I'm glad the Mrs isn't on Ozb. I'd be getting some nudging :/

  • So you have to create the registry at least 30 days before the "wedding". Then the discount is valid for 90 days after.

I couldn't find any info on whether you need Prime membership throughout the entire period to qualify for the 20%. So to be safe you'll need to buy Prime for 1-4 months ($10-40) depending on when you decide to use the voucher. Therefore buying Prime just for the 20% is worthwhile for purchases greater than $100-400, depending on how soon you use the voucher.

    • Note that you also need to pay off the registry product/s!

So registry has to be paid off prior to 30 days before the wedding date

      • Only 1 purchase from the registry is needed. There doesn't seem to be a minimum spend.

Also if you set it up now, the voucher will be available to you during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

        • Good ole OzBargain offer combining ;)

Actually Prime membership is $10.99 a month so the numbers change a little.

Edit: You receive the discount 30 days after the wedding. So a minimum of 3 months Prime membership is required and it will NOT be available during Black Friday.

      • Also need to be careful doing too big of a shop, or make sure it's worth it. >$1000 incurs GST on the way in, there goes 10% of the savings!

Perfect for a $700ish graphics card.

You can add Amazon gift cards to the registry. For some reason the email gift cards can only be added in $100 denominations. The print at home gift cards can be added as $50. Then use the gift cards to make the discounted purchase after the "wedding".

Since interest rates are so low and the AUD is supposedly dropping, buying gift cards now might save some money for that future purchase.

  • Turns out you can't send a digital delivery gift card to a wedding registry since Amazon can't reveal your email address to the sender.

Next best thing I could figure out was to use a cheap small item. Make another Amazon account, use your own referral code, buy with app (can apply $5 referral credit on new account). Get $5 on your main account.

It seems you also have to have the items you intend to buy using the discount added to your registry.
