10:46:42 AM Agent Meet V Patel
      5 x DFO-X48H6AU are also available

      • I checked with them before 10:30am, and been told SOLD OUT, also received the following email:

        Hi There ,
As I check and confirm This DFO-X48H6AU is no longer available for sale
But I will check if any similar available and booked for you .
Will e mail you back if any
        Thank you

After reading your post, I contacted them again, and this time I managed to order one..

Not sure what's wrong with DELL, and hope will receive the monitor soon…

        Anyway, thanks gopi_kv2004!

        • You are welcome.

  • I want this.. My desk just isn't big enough for a 25" and a 24" side by side. :/

    • Update: I managed to snag one. Wanted to do some research (i.e. reading an in depth review) before pulling the trigger but I knew it would sell out if I didn't snap one up pronto.

After an agonizing 37 min wait while the CSR was waiting for the Sales team to reply, I managed to get one ordered. And for a great price too.

And now to do some proper research.. it seems it is an 8 bit panel but I don't know if it's true 8 bit or 6 bit + FRC. Also it seems to not support 1:1 pixel mapping.

So if I hook up a last gen console like PS3 which runs games at 720p, it will scale to full screen, and my experience with Dell monitors has been that the scalers used are not great, so it will have a fuzzy look to it. Shame.

I will keep my U2413 for console gaming, or maybe buy a PS4 Pro and hope that the Pro supports 1440p natively.

I'm going to use this as my main monitor for PC gaming until a similarly sized OLED 4K/QHD panel is available at an affordable price. I'm waiting for that, but it could be a long way off, so this will do nicely until then.

  • I have been eyeing out this monitor for a while however wondering is there any replacement model coming out in near future i.e a U2517H or such?

    • In the tech space there is always updated models coming out every year or two.

I don't know if there's anything official coming out to replace it, but it's a safe bet there will be at some point.

This pricing is DFO pricing, not a fire sale. You are getting 12 months warranty, and it is someone else's canceled order, not a sale or price cut.

Definitely available. Just got one after a 20 min wait ….

For those that havent used their 15% off ebay - can get it for about $340 new from warehouse 1 .. if you want to deal with them (personally prefer Dell)

    • How? $340 would be 25% off their $449 tag.

    • If you can get it for $340 from ebay, do it.

You will get the full 3 year warranty, and that is Dell warranty. You'll still be dealing directly with Dell not warehouse 1. I bought my U2413 on ebay from a third party too, and when I needed to get it replaced, it was Dell that I was in contact with, so you won't lose that for buying on ebay. The unit itself was shipped directly to me from Dell, not the seller.

For only $7 extra, and not limited to a small qty of units. Why not?

    • Came up at $381 as 15% off, think he was assuming the website price ($401) was the same on eBay, but it's not ($449).

  • Got my from dell outlet just now. Took about 20 minutes for them to get an e-mail back from the inventory folks…
Not sure why they use e-mail, but anyway got one. My wife now has two.

  • +1

Just got one, but the process from start of chat to payment took 45 minutes.

Highly recommend this monitor, as that will go nicely with the other 3 on my desk.

    • You going for a cockpit view with side windows for your driving games or something?

  • Just placed an order as well, took 45 min for them to check for stock lol. This will be my first 1440p monitor! Was going to go for 27" 2k but a bit too pricey for me so went with this deal instead. Thanks op

    • You are welcome.

  • Thanks op. Got one.

  • Got one too OP, took about 25 minutes over the chat, but got one in the end :)

Not sure why it is marked as expired though…

    • +1

It's not listed on the outlet anymore.

      • …that would be why :P

  • thanks i got one for 333.00 delivered :) legend who ever spotted this!

  • Hi guys, how did you pay for the monitor? I have one reserved for me and sales from Dell sent me a quotation email. My question is how I can be sure the email is legit? Cannot pay via PayPal, only cc or bank transfer worries me a little. Thanks heaps for your help on this.

    • +1

That's how Dell operate, and it's always better paying with a debit/credit card rather than bank transfer.

    • Thanks guys, one more question. How do I pay via credit card? Do I need to talk to the sales on chat again to provide my cc details? Thank you.

      • +1

Your Dell chat person will set up a secure gateway window within the chat (like a pop-up) where you enter the details.

        • +1

Great help there suaveswerve, ordered… thank you.

  • +2

unless they went to the trouble of getting merchant banking and the like as fake dell australia :P id say its legit.
also they sent me two emails one to say id called one to say id ordered with tracking details + receipt :)

  • RIP they're sold out :( This would've been perfect!

  • Received mine already.. That was quick.

    • Spent an entire evening cleaning up my study room and desk.

      My first impressions:

This thing is sleek. The top, left, and right bezels are very thin, although the image does not extend all the way to the bezel, so you do get a slight border.

The buttons are capacitive which is a must for a screen this thin and easy to push. You don't need much pressure to press the buttons but they are a bit unresponsive at times.

The pixel density is very nice and sharp. The sharpest I've ever owned.

It has a very premium feel to it.

My biggest gripe is the lack of 1:1 aspect ratio. Both of my previous Dell Ultrasharps have this mode, but not this one. This makes it not worth playing consoles on it. Since no console outputs at 1440p so far, it will have to stretch the image to full screen and the internal scalers on monitors have always been crap. I have my fingers crossed that the PS4 Pro will support 1440p output. But I still play PS3 and 360 and those will output anywhere from 720p to 1080p.

The only display cable you'll be getting is mini DP. Since my previous Dell only had a miniDP also and my GPU only has one mDP out, I've had to use an old DVI cable for the old monitor. Would be nice if they gave us a second other cable.

At this price it was an absolute bargain.

  • Can I cancel mine? I've scored a 31" IPS monitor from Officeworks for $78.

    • +1

You can return it within 14 days.

  • Anyone else got their unit yet?

My power button is extremely unresponsive. It's very difficult to turn it off and on. I need to know if it's a design fault or if I got a dodgy unit.

Turning it off seems easier than turning it on. Unless there is some hard coded time limit after turning it off that you can't turn it back on. You only need to gently touch the power button for a few seconds and it turns off, but doing the same thing does not turn it back on. Even when you apply a lot of pressure to it, it makes no difference.

The other four buttons respond perfectly fine.

I'm not the only one reporting the issue but I don't know how wide spread it is. I need to know how it is for you guys so I can decide whether to exchange it or stick with it (and just never turn off the monitor).

    • Mine has about a 5s delay between pressing the button and it turning on. Turning off is instant and perfectly responsive.

      • You just tap it gently and it turns on/off?

The delay for turning it on is normal. All monitors take some seconds to turn on.

My power button is very unresponsive. Sometimes I worry it won't turn on at all.

Do you think I should get it replaced?

Just tested mine again now. Turned off instantly. But trying to get it back on took about a minute. I think I'll leave it on when I shut down the PC and put up with a blinking light.

  • Why are you folks even using the power button on the monitor?
It only uses 35W, probably much less than your PC, and your PC should be set to put the monitor into sleep mode automatically when idle.

Sleep mode is 0.5W and wakes much faster than from off state.

put up with a blinking light.

Ah - if that was the only issue, try a black felt pen, or a small piece of electrical tape.

But you do have a fault if more than about 5 seconds. Could be the power supply.
Maybe wait for it to get worse before calling Dell? If it doesn't get worse, you still might want to report it before warranty ends.

    • I shouldn't have to do any of this. It should work as intended.

The unit I have is otherwise a good monitor.

If I returned it, I don't know if they will give me a brand new one or a refurb, and whether the replacement won't have the same issue again.

I don't want to risk getting a refurb, since I did buy it discounted through the DFO. I would also risk getting a unit with dead pixels (mine doesn't have any).

I've found turning it off is a lot easier than turning it back on. There might be some kind of hard coded time limit in the machine preventing you from turning it back on again for at least 30 seconds.

It's completely unresponsive to touch, and then after a while all of a sudden it just works again. I don't do anything different.

I'm going to give it a few more days.

Sleep mode is 0.5W and wakes much faster than from off state.

We're a green conscious household. Appliances on stand by (including your TV) account for 10% of your power bill a year. We turn everything off. It's how we are. It's like asking a smoker to just quit smoking.

      • OK, mine arrived, so I'll try to help.
At first, I thought the power button was mechanical because it clicked when pressed. But it turned out to be the plastic front was not quite in place. A firm squeeze on the corner of the case fixed it. So look carefully at yours.

My power button is still definitely not as sensitive as the others. That would be normal, to conserve power in "off" state.
But when it works, the white LED should come on immediately, and the screen a few seconds later.
        Try licking your finger.

Appliances on stand by (including your TV) account for 10% of your power bill a year.

No way - that is outdated, and certainly does not apply to modern appliances. 0.5W is about 4 units a year, so $1 pa.
Add up all the appliances in the home and it should be 1 or 2%. Please stop spreading myths.

How long does it take you to turn it on?

My button is not loose. But I do have uneven workmanship around the edges of the screen. The part where the screen meets the bezel in some spots the seam is tighter than others. I think dust is likely to get inside at some point.

Can you please test it a few more times? Just on and off, on and off? Since you're the kind who leaves it on I might not get much more data out of you regarding the reliability of the button.

I got it from a science documentary released recently. I can't believe their "science" just got discredit by a blogger. Shame.

        • @lostn:
It takes 3 seconds for the backlight to come on.
But pressing the on button is not the same as connecting power at the plug.
I take it you must have a power meter. If so, can you tell us how much power it uses in standby vs soft-off please?

        • @manic:

But pressing the on button is not the same as connecting power at the plug.

Not sure what you mean by this. For me, if something is not switched on via the button, plugging it in will not automatically switch it on. It will just enable the power switch to be pressed.

I take it you must have a power meter. If so, can you tell us how much power it uses in standby vs soft-off please?

I don't have a power meter. And I really don't care. For me it's never been about saving money on power bills. As greenies we could save even more money than that immediately if we switched to a less green power company. I don't want to get into politics on this forum though (nothing I do is going to change, ever, even if it turns out it's only 0.5% extra power to keep it in stand by), my main concern is the power button that's inconsistent.

I've experimented with it. It doesn't work like a phone's capacitive buttons. I tried using a stylus that works on smartphones. No response at all.

I've tried 5 different fingers to see if it works better on certain fingers. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

The reason it is inconsistent is because sometimes it reacts very quickly even with the gentlest touch. Other times, I can be smearing it for a minute with 5 different fingers, pressing hard, pressing soft, making different swirling patterns, no dice.

If I returned it to Dell, they could test it, and it turns on immediately and be like, wtf are you smoking? Works instantly for me.

I also don't want to tape over it. That gets sticky goo all over it, another pet peeve of mine.

What I need is more people to test it out. It can't be just you and me who bought one?

        • @lostn:

My LED doesn't turn on for at least 30 seconds.

Its faulty. Call Dell. Have you asked someone else to try it?

Anyway, you are wasting your time. Its not a "real" power switch. According to Dell specs, its the same <0.5W with or without.
If you are going to be obsessive, get a power cable with a mechanical switch. Or course making and shipping that will consume more power than it saves over the life of the monitor. As will sending the monitor back for repair. You are in a corner, sorry.

I do sympathise. My Creative surround amp has such awful standby consumption that I added my own hard power switch to it.

          Other matters:
I cannot get the audio-out to work, either for HDMI or DP. Its not described in the user manual. Anyone?
And it will not do native resolution over HDMI, which would be useful even though it needs a lower refresh rate.

          Nice monitor - thanks gopi!

        • @manic:

P.S. - the difference between standby and soft off, aside from faster on, is that soft-off turns off power to USB ports.
