  • you would think if they put band 28 on some of their other phones for taiwan they could do it on this model …..

guess i will get the motorola g4 plus dicksmith are selling.

    • Someone in the forums pointed out Amazon US are selling the 64gb/4gb ram version of the G4+ for around $330 delivered

    • You can enable B28 and a few others on the Mi5 after rooting then following a pretty tedious process which is not documented well

      • Reading through the xda and related threads, it looks like while B28 (and a host of other bands) can be "unlocked" in software by the said procedure, the new bands do not actually work, possibly due to locks in other areas or even hardware limitations.

The price will drop further when the Mi5s launches in a couple of days.

stewballs that was mildly funny so I have reward you with my approval. Well done my boy

If only they'd used a Bendragon instead of the Snapdragon…rookie error! ;)

  • Almost bought this or the Le Max 2 but no microsd and no band 28 killed it for me :(((

Not sure if it will ever happen, but I'm holding out for a 4/128gb ceramic for under 400. The lack of band 28 has made absolutely no difference to me with my Redmi Note 3 Pro for the last few months so here's hoping…

    • Have to agree with that, no band 28 makes no difference to me

    • If you're on Optus or Telstra, B28 will give you faster speeds (band aggregation) and better indoor coverage (better penetration of walls).

In most urban areas it's not a huge issue because there's 4G on 1800MHz and 2600MHz, but B28 is certainly very beneficial. If spending $400+ on a phone, I would rather get something with B28.

I'm not saying that it doesn't make a difference at all, I'm saying that not having it doesn't make enough of a difference that it's a deal breaker

No doubt it would be nice to have, but at no point have I wished for anything faster than what I have. YouTube streams almost instantly in 1080, and email attachments download fast enough that I've never been left waiting. Granted I live about 10km from Melbourne CBD, and work in Southbank so I'm not exactly in the boonies but still.

I got this phone for about a week, excellent design, weight, screen is very good, a class above my previous primary phone that is Huawei Honor 6 (itself a good screen at the time)
I spent five bloody hours flashing global rom onto the china phone, learn that you must unlock the bootloader via application to flash the 8.0 series of miui, I got the engineering cable which technically doesn't require unlock boot loader but appears that 8.0 series prevented engineering cable flash in the rom itself.
The 8.0 series stable rom based on 6.0 at this stage has no universal search bar for odd reasons.
For 3gb ram, you only get mere 1.4/1.5 gb upon boot, where as the previous 5.x based roms gets you 1.6/7 free upon boot.
Battery life is not bad, heavy use is one day, but my normal usage , it can push to two days for sure.
I like the phone so far.
If it had a 4000 rated battery it be perfect.
Recommend future android device to be 4gb ram, due to the fact that android and especially fork like miui uses a lot more memory loaded up.
It is an irony that Windows and Mac need less ram to run by default today than phones

  • Basically, if I bought this phone and wanted to flash an international ROM or Cyanogenmod, what are the steps required?
