  • does not have the click and collect logo, therefore can not redeem click and collect credit.

    • I personally can't see any products with the C&C Logo, they might have forgotten to put the logos on, I put in possible so no guarantee :)

  • 3 dollars cash back if using cashrewards with them reducing the price also on ebay though.

  • Has anyone seen these in-store or have any comments after buying?

    • Looking at the manual it looks like a carbon copy of my DSE FHD telly… ie. very good pic, atrocious sound but overall a decent set.

I would buy but I'm hanging out for a HDR set.

    • Yep, they're just a standard DSE type TV. The plastic seems to be a slightly higher quality though.

      • Yeah I dont care about plastic case quality per se but I've seen some with plastic legs and some very dodgy screw attachements…. granted they are less than 10kg but my DSE has metal legs and some good attachment points.

    • Bought the 43" version about 1.5 years ago, can't comment the image/sound quality, but the TV itself is decent, still working so far. My only complaint is the remote, which feels cheap and around 1 out of 5 times it wouldn't register button press.

Good price. But I believe its edges will mask about 150 pixels each side, just the same as the other cheap Chinese TVs. So you are likely to see only half line of subtitles.

    • +6

… but I dont watch SBS for the subtitles …

    • I think you can adjust the aspect of the picture, there is an option/button to do so.

    • What? that's 300px per dimension, making it 780x1620?

Where on earth to people come up with these ridiculous comments?

TVs don't mask pixels. NONE of them do that.

It's an acceptable quality product from China.
The price is low too. Just don't expect to get the best after-sales support.

Not like that Chinese Whisky I tried (and puked) out one-time.

That Chinese Whisky didn't love you long time?

  • Is this the best price going around for 42" ?

  • it older smaller brother 32" did not get promising reviews

Lol, one of those reviews is by somebody that doesn't own the tv, he/she just based their review on the other reviews.

  • GTA-V is pretty good so this should be good

Thanks OP. Decent enough telly for the guest room with a Chromecast2 plugged into it. That it lasts 3 years with minimal use is all I expect from a telly at this price point.

  • Only thing that scares me is the 12 month warranty. I guess it's hard to expect much more at this price point. Years ago I got burn with a cheap TV after paying $600 initially plus $100 "service inspection charge" by the manufacturer's agent when it failed at 14 months old… they quoted me over $400 for the repair, which would have made it a $1000 TV (not worth it).

Could anyone comment on how "smeary" or "laggy" this would be for console gaming, especially FPS like COD and also in FIFA?

    • Depends on what you are used to

If you game on a pc with a good monitor you will be really dissapointed

      • LOL, yeah I realise that.

But I mean how bad would it be compared to other TVs with (say) an XboxOne at 1080p?

My kid currently plays online/cooperative Xbox on an old AWA 32" LCD of unknown speed or overall quality. It's fine but only runs at 720p (native res is 1366x768 I think). I want to set him up in a new area of the house with a larger screen, but worry whether these cheap TVs are OK or not for that kind of gaming.

I read heaps of "online opinions" about the topic, but I am severely lacking hard facts to make an informed decision. I dunno how to compare - for example is a $500 Hisense better or worse that this $300 GVA? The specs and reality often don't match up, as it's not just the panel refresh rate that matters… but also how fast the input lags as well.

Can't comment specifically on this telly but we have a $300 FHD 39.5" Dick Smith telly in the kids rumpus room and they play Xbox One games on it without complaint. Adult Xbox players seem to be far more pedantic, though.

          @Chateau:

Bloody hell - $278 for a 42" FHD LED TV with USB and 3 HDMIs

I was agonising over the recent Kogan and DSE deals at higher price than this ROFL

          Soniq 40" refurb 2013 model $249 + delivery

          Soniq 42" refurb 2014 model $279 + delivery

          Arggggghhhh I hate spending money

I used to be indecisive, but now I am not so sure that was true!

        • @llama: You can't go wrong @ $278 for a 42" FHD with 1 year warranty. Bite the bullet, they don't come cheaper.

          @Chateau:

I chickened out last night. What actually made my mind up was that there is no stock in any Goodguys close to me… it would be a 60 min return trip to the closest one where I could Click and Collect, or pay extra $35 delivery charge.

Also, I really hate cheap appliances, and almost every one I've bought has ended up being hated for years (annoying how the horrid ones last so much longer than the warranty period). Aldi microwave and washing machine, bluetooth speakers, toasters, rice cookers, etc - all these things were a bit cheaper but many orders of magnitude poorer than a decent brand at a slightly higher price.

In a quick Google I also couldn't find any reviews or keystrokes to access Service Menu so I was worried that it might have strange overscan or something else that I couldn't alter. However I may still buy this if a local Goodguys has one that I can see operating an assess image quality etc.

        • @llama:

'Slightly' needs to be replaced by 'Significantly' in this sentence. $278 is not at all comparable with $1000+ for any decent brand's similar sized TV.

        • @virhlpool:

Significantly cheaper than $1000 for a Samsung or Panasonic, yeah of course. But is the GVA significantly worse than a Soniq, TCL, Hisense, Akai, Sansui, Kogan, DSE or other rubbish that are slightly more expensive?

Please keep in mind - personally I need a "monitor" for Xbox and Playstation gaming for a 13 year old, and we don't really care how good it is as a TV. If I was buying to chuck on a wall bracket in the bedroom, I would already have purchased this.

  • Right on the mark with it looking like the old DSE. tv's almost certainly made by MTC (MitacTV). The processed image quality can be dubious, remote's rather lacklustre and sound guaranteed to be terrible. Check the PC HDMI mode as it may allow for full bypass of the image processing and "masked pixels" otherwise known as overscan, the occasional ones from this maker look decent in this mode. Service menu, input - 2580 (highly probable)
