Samsung T1 Portable USB SSD 1TB - $335 @ Officeworks

260

Seemed a good deal for a 1TB SSD, especially considering the 1TB T3 next to it was nearly $700

Edited, wrong brand in title!

Wonder if you can crack these open and install it directly into the desktop via SATA…

    • i've opened the 500gb version cos a client managed to destroy the usb3 interface. It had a msata ssd.

      • Did you get the model number on it? Might be able to figure out what it's counterpart is in the msata 850 EVO or Pro (most likely EVO or maybe its a 750 equivalent)

Thanks OP. I picked up the last ones at Loganholme and Slacks Creek :)

  • Any stock of these in Melbourne? How do you search for them?

  • Had to settle for a couple of 500GB ones for $178 per.

These make a great boot/primary drive if you have an iMac with a standard hdd. USB3 is certainly fast enough and reliable enough for this purpose. I have been using a 250GB on for 18 months in this way with no problem. Will do the same for my wife's one now.

Be warned that this drive can be painful to get working depending on what OS you are using.

I plugged it into my Windows 10 machine & after the driver installed the drive did not show up. Despite device manager saying that it was working fine.

I then plugged it into my Windows 8.1 machine with the same result.

In desperation I dusted off a Windows 7 machine & plugged it into that. A drive then showed up, but it was only 128MB in size. On that drive there was some Samsung activation software. So I ran that & answered the questions. After that I could finally see the drive & it then worked on my Windows 10 machine as well.

Had the same problem on my Mac. Had to do the activation thingy then use Disk Utility to format for OSX. I am Carbon Copy Clonering my current TI 250GB to one of my new T1 500GB drives as I write.

      • +1

        Done. That was easy!

Blackmagic shows 383MB/s write and 428MB/s read. Not bad for USB3.

  • Picked up one at Dandenong Sth . There was still a few left

    • So looks like you got the last one. They had display boxes out but nothing behind the counter.

  • These seem like a great deal
