  • Great deal. Thanks.

FYI, it's Cyanuric acid. Normally $11 at bunnings vs $24 here.

    "save $28" !!? What a rip-off. Oh but its "premium" :-)

Not all chemicals are made the same. There could be more filler, impurities and sometimes just if it dissolves properly or not. Not saying this one is better than the bunnings stuff but, there are differences even if its the same % and formula.

      • There could be magic pixie dust. Or bull dust.

In this case, you are wildly speculating, and just plain wrong.

        • Well i don't see you testing it either and I'm not making ASSUMPTIONS that it's definitely a "RIPOFF" as per your silly argument of comparing two different brands.

        • @everyone:
Its one pure chemical. You throw it in the pool and it dissolves. There is no solvent, no additives. Its most likely from the same industrial supplier.

Do you have a favourite brand of cooking salt or white sugar? Or petrol - some people do, even when it all comes from the same refinery.

        • +1

@manic: It is NOT one pure chemical. For example, most are 98.5% cyanuric acid (not 100%). (https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/cyanuric-acid-for-pools.htm…).

It would also show you that there are more than one supplier and you are just wildly speculating, and just plain wrong.

You may argue that 1.5% is nothing, but if that consists of metals such as iron, you could end up spending more to get stains off your pool walls when the metal accumulates over time.

A good example would be the different grades of pool salt. The $5 bags you buy at bunnings are orange tinged indicating the presence of iron whereas the good quality and more expensive stuff are white crystals, more akin to food grade salt.

Compare food grade to industrial grade chemicals is not apples for apples. There are much higher quality controls, stricter guidelines and consequences for supplying contaminated food.

Before you decide to spout off comments about comparing potentially different products and then attack someone for pointing it out, do yourself a favour and do some research.

Here's a great starting point from people who know what they are talking about: http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/2522-Cost-Comparison-of-Cyanuric-Acid-(CYA)-Sources

@everyone: Bunnings salt once stain a bunch of people's pools in W.A. because they tried to cheap out and get salt from China and it was filled with impurities. They might be cheap, but they aren't good value. Their products are horse shit.

Pretty much right. Pool shops regularly charge more as it comes with advice and support. Nothing wrong with this deal, 30+% saving compared to Bunnings price.

      • Advices have good and bad ones.

After I tested my water in one of my local pool shops, I was advised to put 2kg alkaline, 2kg acid, 2 bags of salt and 500g of Chlorine.

Ever since then, I never step into that pool shop again. I also told all my friends who have pool not to go there.

        • Agreed. Just like any industry, there are good businesses and bad ones. Plenty of bad pool shops around but you only need to find one good one. I have a good local one for water testing and additive advice, and I have had nothing but good dealings with Pool and Spa warehouse for occasional supplies.

PS - 2kg of buffer, 2 bags of salt, acid and chlorine (with stabiliser) is pretty standard for start of the season.

      • Hi Rep, any specials for October?

  • +1

I constantly struggle to get my pool pH below 7.6 unless I keep adding acid 3 times a week. This is despite pushing the alkalinity up to 150ppm. Do you know of any automated solutions to regularly dispense acid into the pool?

Edit: Just found your zodiac feeder.

    • +1

Don't get a zodiac feeder, they are rubbish. You should keep your alkalinity down if you want your pH to stay down. (125ppm unless you have a painted pool, can go as low as 80ppm if concrete pool with a salt chlorinator). Check your chlorinator isn't over producing as that will push your pH up tonnes.

      • Had no idea the chlorinator had an effect on pH. I'll turn it down and see if it improves things.

        • Every time it produces chlorine, it also produces a OH- ion (opposite of acid) so it drives the pH up constantly.

    • Hey Livert, just for piece of mind this is completely normal.

Use hydrochloric acid from Bunnings, anything with "pool" written on it will cost triple.

  • hey rep, I have a pool but filter hasn't been run for 4 months and it's murky green. i have no electricity connected to the pool and will in probably feb next year. pool is a pebble finish. what should i do? leave it as is until then and then buy a bunch of stuff and run the filter? or should i now put stuff in the pool without running the filter?

it is a Astral Pool VX salt chlorinator VX9T

    • if you leave it until February it will likely get worse and then you would probably need to empty it and acid-wash it. We would recommend to put liquid chlorine to keep the water from getting worse.

      • thanks! how many litres of chorline? pool is probably 50,000 litres

    • Yep good advice. Simply dose chlorine manually until you can run the pump/chlorinator. Might be worth running a big extension cord to run the pump once a week to turn over the water.

  • Want to buy more for the summer :(

  • poolsupplies code not valid…Does this mean all 150 are gone?

  • Ordered one together with an extra item with no shipping charge after the code. Thanks!

  • Another one bought - thanks - maybe I can reduce the running on my chlorination unit and save some money.

  • Thanks OP , Cheers

  • Bought the last one OP. Thanks very much for the offer.
